Episode 401: Stop Losing Winnable Games: How Roy Weathers and Anova Sports Are Bringing the “Moneyball” Revolution to Basketball
2026/10/14
Welcome back to the Championship Vision Basketball Podcast, where we talk with coaches, leaders, innovators, and difference-makers who are helping move the game of basketball forward.
Tonight, we're going to take a look at what could be one of the biggest changes coming to basketball coaching: the use of artificial intelligence in scouting, analytics, and game preparation.
Every coach knows the challenge. We watch hours of film. We break down opponents. We study tendencies. We look at statistics. And then we have to take all of that information and answer one important question:
What do we actually need to do to win the game?
My guest tonight believes technology can help coaches answer that question faster and better.
Roy Weathers is the founder of Anova Sports, an AI-powered basketball platform designed to help coaches transform data, film, tendencies, and matchup information into actionable scouting and game-planning decisions.
I had the opportunity to spend quite a bit of time with Roy at our Legends Coaching Clinic, and what impressed me wasn't simply the technology. It was his vision. Roy wants to bring the type of analytics and decision-making tools normally associated with higher levels of basketball into the hands of high-school coaches across the country.
And tonight, we're not just going to talk about it.
We're going to show you.
Roy is going to take us inside Anova Sports, share his screen, and demonstrate how a coach can use the system to scout an opponent, identify tendencies, develop Keys to Victory, analyze matchups, and turn information into an actual game plan.
So if you're listening on the audio version of Championship Vision, I encourage you to check out the video version of this episode as well, because you're going to want to see this technology in action.
We're going to talk about basketball, scouting, technology, AI, coaching—and what the future of game preparation may look like.
Roy Weathers of Anova Sports, welcome to the Championship Vision Basketball Podcast.

Show Introduction
Episode 398: Coach Jamie Parish:“Measure What Matters: Building Better Players Before the Season”
2026/09/22
Jamie Parish is in his 13th year at Sioux Falls Washington High School, where he teaches physical education and serves as the head girls basketball coach.
Jamie is a native of Yankton, South Dakota.
He earned his education degree from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, a master's degree in physical education from the University of South Dakota and an Education Specialist degree from the University of Sioux Falls.
His coaching journey has included stops at the University of South Dakota, Mount Marty College and Hot Springs, along with serving as the head girls basketball coach and athletic director at Centerville and the head girls basketball coach at Vermillion.
And his résumé speaks for itself.
Coach Parish has the unique distinction of coaching state tournament qualifiers in all three classifications of South Dakota girls basketball.
During his career, his teams have made numerous state tournament appearances and he's won four state championships, including the 2007 championship at Vermillion and championships at Sioux Falls Washington in 2015, 2021 and 2023.
But what I really like about today's conversation is that we're not just talking about what Jamie has won.
We're talking about how he develops players and builds a program.
Coach Jamie Parish, welcome to the Championship Vision Podcast.
Episode 397: All In or Average How Hall of Fame Coach Kevin Orr Builds Culture, Connection and the Squid Defense
2026/09/17
Welcome to another episode of the Championship Vision Podcast. I’m Coach Kevin Furtado, and today we’re talking about something that goes far beyond X’s and O’s.
We’re talking about building a program with an identity.
My guest today is Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame coach Kevin Orr, longtime head coach at Rice Lake High School.
Coach Orr has spent more than two decades building successful basketball programs, winning hundreds of games, conference and regional championships, and leading Rice Lake to back-to-back appearances in the Wisconsin Division 2 state championship game.
But today's conversation isn't really about the wins.
It's about culture, relationships, leadership, trust—and getting players to become completely invested in something bigger than themselves.
Kevin has a phrase that I absolutely love:
“All In or Average.”
We're going to talk about what that looks like inside a basketball program. How do you move players from simply participating to becoming fully invested? How do you intentionally teach leadership and character? And how do you create experiences where your players learn that being part of a team is about serving others?
Then we're going to take that culture onto the basketball court.
We're going inside one of the most unique defenses I've come across—the Squid 2-1-2 Pressure Defense.
Why Squid?
Because Kevin wanted five defenders to feel like 10 arms surrounding an offense—getting into passing lanes, creating deflections, forcing uncomfortable shots and making opponents feel like there was nowhere comfortable to go.
We'll break down the philosophy behind Squid, how Kevin teaches it, and some of the different ways Rice Lake can create pressure with GO, LAVA and GATOR.
But what really interests me is the connection between the two.
You can't play an aggressive, trapping defense without communication. You can't rotate without trust. You can't create pressure without effort. And you can't build something special with players who are only halfway invested.
That's where culture and basketball meet.
All In or Average.
Today we're going to find out what being ALL IN looks like in Coach Kevin Orr's program.
Coach Orr, welcome to the Championship Vision Podcast.
Elevate Your Offense with Coach Tyler Whitcomb: Creator of the "The Elevation Offense"
2026/09/04
Welcome back to the Championship Vision Basketball Podcast. I’m Coach Kevin Furtado, and this is Episode 396.
Today we're going to spend most of our time talking basketball offense with the creator of one of the more unique continuity systems in the game — the Elevation Offense.
My guest is Coach Tyler Whitcomb, Athletic Director at Kuyper College and creator of the Elevation Offense.
Coach Whitcomb has built a diverse career in basketball and athletic leadership.
His background includes serving as a high school head coach and Athletic Director, college basketball coach, professional basketball owner and executive, basketball scout, clinic director, administrator and educator.
He has more than 100 high school coaching victories and has shared his basketball knowledge nationally through clinics and Championship Productions.
But today we're going to concentrate on something Tyler created:
The Elevation Offense.
It's a Horns-based, 3-out, 2-in continuity offense designed to create spacing, screening actions, downhill attacks, post opportunities and, most importantly, reads for players.
We're going to break down where it came from, how Tyler teaches it, how defenses try to stop it, and how coaches listening today can incorporate Elevation concepts into their own programs.
Coach Tyler Whitcomb, welcome to the Championship Vision Basketball Podcast.
Episode 395: Coach Bobby Perez: "The Consistent Shooting System"
2026/08/28
Here’s a polished Spotify-ready bio you can paste directly into the episode description:
Bobby Perez is a basketball shooting coach and founder of the Consistent Shooter System, a comprehensive shooting-development program designed to help players identify and correct the root causes of inconsistent shooting.
A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Perez played college basketball at Wofford College under Head Coach Mike Young. Since 2020, he has dedicated his career to studying the shooting process and helping players develop more efficient, repeatable shots.
Bobby has worked with athletes at every level, from youth and high school players to Division I and professional players. His approach goes beyond simply telling players to “get more reps.” Instead, he focuses on identifying the specific factors that affect consistency, including rhythm, set point, release, power generation, shot preparation, and repeatability.
Based in Atlanta, Bobby works with players both in person and virtually through the Consistent Shooter System. His mission is to give every player a clear, individualized process for understanding their shot, correcting inefficiencies, and becoming a more confident and consistent shooter.
On this episode of the Championship Vision Basketball Podcast, Coach Kevin Furtado talks with Bobby about the science and art of shooting development, why players become inconsistent, how coaches can diagnose shooting problems, and practical ways to build shooters whose mechanics hold up under game pressure.
