The Small Folk
2026/10/18
Four households. Four small tenants. One rule nobody told the newcomers.
A Pampanga farmer inherits land with a mound on it and skips the offerings his father never skipped. A Marikina plumber opens a water tank sealed for decades and finds it packed floor to hatch with tiny hand-aligned shoes — and something child-sized crouched underneath, wearing a pair. An Ilocos archivist realizes the thing curating her heritage shelves accepts payment in paper scraps and ink drops. A Guimaras mango grower learns the tall horned shadow in his oldest grove takes its rent in rice, cigarettes, and tuba.
Stories covered: the nuno of the old farmhouse, the duwende of the water tank, the lambana of the library, and the lampong of Guimaras. Plus listener letters and shoutouts.

Places That Will Not Stay Quiet
2026/10/13
We went quiet. We are back. Paul, Angel, Zach, and Hendrick return with five places that refused to stay quiet: a train station that still runs its ghost timetable, a sugar mill office with a drinker who never left, a hospital that remodels its own hallways, a convent room that keeps watch over the dead, and a lighthouse shadow that learns its keeper. Plus: the apology you deserved, your reviews answered on the show, and next Friday's Undas special in Camiguin.
Leave a review on Apple or Spotify — we answer them on the show. Send your true encounters through the show page; every fifth Friday belongs to you.

Creatures of the Mountain and the Water
2026/09/16
Three creatures. Three territories. One rule: show respect, or belong to them forever.
Paul, Angel, and Zach explore the terrifying world of Filipino folklore — from the backward-legged tikbalang that stalks Mt. Makiling, to the pale water spirit that waits beneath the Enchanted River, to the ancient nuno sa punso that claims a family's land in Pampanga. Each story is a warning: the Philippines is older than you think, and the things that live there have been watching longer than you know.

The Mandurugo of Iloilo
2026/09/09
A nurse in Iloilo watches three patients check into her hospital with the same impossible symptom: blood vanishing from their bodies with no wound, no bleeding, no explanation. A park ranger on Mt. Arayat follows a floating orange light into the forest and watches it scorch a perfect circle into the earth. A tour guide on Corregidor Island walks into a formation of invisible soldiers and loses three degrees of body temperature in seconds. And a father in Davao watches a creature that looks like his daughter's age sit outside his window, crying with a mouth full of teeth that no baby should have.
These are five creatures from Filipino folklore. Some seduce. Some burn. Some wait. All of them remember your face.

Under the Balete
2026/09/02
Four stories, one tree. The hosts gather around the balete — the strangler fig that eats another tree to become itself — with a Grab driver's White Lady on Balete Drive, a forestry student's inheritance in the Davao forest, a night-shift keeper's protocol at a tollway rest stop, and a surveyor's map that would not hold still in Batangas. The Ghost of Fort San Pedro in Cebu
2026/08/19
Beneath the oldest Spanish fort in the Philippines, there are tunnels that no tourist has ever seen. An archaeologist maps them. She finds cells with iron rings. She finds scratches on stone: God, Forgiveness, Death. And behind a sealed door, a voice still praying after three hundred years.
In this episode, Paul, Angel and Zach explore four of the most haunted historical structures in the Philippines -- from the subterranean dungeons of Fort San Pedro in Cebu to a heritage house on the oldest street in the country, from a shadowy convent in Intramuros to a lighthouse in Ilocos Norte where a dark shape follows you the more alone you become.

When the Music Stopped: The World's Deadliest Pub and Club Fires
2026/07/17
July 12, 2026. A pub in Bangkok. Thirty-three people walked in for a night out and never came home.
Tonight, Angel and Paul sit down for one of the hardest episodes they've ever recorded. We remember the lives lost in the devastating Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao fire in Chatuchak — and the ones lost before, in places where the music played and the exits were blocked.

The Ozone Disco, Quezon City, 1996 — one hundred sixty-two young people trapped behind a door that opened inward. The Santika Club, Bangkok, 2009 — New Year's Eve turned to ash. Kiss nightclub, Santa Maria, Brazil — two hundred forty-two dead in minutes. Colectiv, Bucharest — a rock concert that became a horror show. The Station, Rhode Island — one hundred souls at a Great White show that went wrong.
These aren't just statistics. They are the people who went out dancing and never came home. Their families still remember. Tonight, so do we.

Our four hosts Paul, Angel, Hendrick, and Zach share fifteen accounts from ordinary Filipinos whose lives intersected with the extraordinary, accompanied by cold spots, unanswered questions, and moments that changed everything.

The Sarimanok of Marawi
2007/02/20
In the old quarter of Marawi City, a family of woodcarvers has kept a secret for five generations. Their most famous creation, a sarimanok carved from a single piece of narra wood, is said to be alive. Its obsidian eyes move. Its feathers shift. At night, it sings.
But this is only the first of four stories tonight. We travel to Zamboanga, where a forensic pathologist examines a body that refuses to stay dead. To Mount Arayat in Pampanga, where a fire elemental drifts above the balete canopy. And to the Magat River in Isabela, where something ancient waits in the murky water.
Stories from four corners of the Philippines. Creatures that have lived in the shadows of these islands for centuries. Some are beautiful. Some are terrifying. All of them are real to the people who share them.

Improvement:
Really bad narration, diction and intonation. Sounds like on the spot recording. The delivery is making these stories… boring.

Narration
The narration is too fast
