I was teaching for about 10 years when I realized that I didn’t want to teach anymore. I remember it so vividly… The bell rings. The students come in. They go in the back and change. And my stomach is in knots! I felt so uncomfortable because for the first time I totally and completely understood that I did not want to teach dance anymore! It had nothing to do with my students. It had nothing to do with the school. It had everything to do with me. I just didn’t want to do it anymore. And in episode #193 of the Dance Boss Podcast, I dive into why. I remember putting in my resignation for my full-time dance teacher job. I was worried!  I worried about what I would do without those full-time benefits that had been sustaining me for fifteen years. I am spending all of my time individually catering to my dance clients, checking work, and carrying the emotional weight of my clients. I am helping so many dancers solve so many different kinds of problems that I don’t have time for myself. My business does not feel like it can grow because I have no more time or energy to give it emotionally. I don’t have time to take on more clients, but I desire more revenue. Now add up your points. If your score was: 1-10 —> I have been exactly where you are. It’s time to make a decision about what behaviors you are willing to change to reach your goal. 11-15 —> You are in a good place, my friend. You seem to have stability in your life and feel at peace. When I started my online dance business I wanted nothing more than to be successful! I started my business because I wanted an escape from the constraints of a 9-to-5/teaching job! And when I first started my business I was moving from a place of creativity – everything I did was motivated by feelings. What I felt when I saw something, and mimicking that thing because it felt right at the time… But, moving from this creative space left me feeling unclear, chaotic, messy, and organized. And I was actually blocking myself from creativity in my business because I lacked structure. There are so many fears we have when first starting a business. We think we aren’t good enough, smart enough, our offer isn’t valuable enough, etc. When I first started my online dance business, I had this fear. I don’t have a business degree. How can I be a business coach? Who am I to want this kind of life? But I learned that my experiences are valuable and that my limiting beliefs were the only things holding me back.
