“You’re Not My Ex, So Why Am I Fighting You Like You Are?”
2026/10/05
When old wounds start running new relationships
Some of us are in relationships with three people: us, the person we’re with now, and the ghost of the person who hurt us before. And somehow, that ghost still has voting rights.
They’re deciding what feels suspicious. What silence means. Whether somebody can be trusted. How we respond when a text goes unanswered. And sometimes, they’re even deciding how much love we’re willing to receive before we start preparing for something to go wrong.
In this episode of Talk & Toast, Coach Chanel G gets into what happens when old wounds start translating new experiences. We’re talking hypervigilance, trust issues, relationship testing, self-sabotage, confusing chaos with chemistry, and why peace can feel suspicious when dysfunction once felt familiar.
But this conversation goes deeper than “heal before you date.”
What if the real question isn’t simply, “Can I trust this person?” What if it’s also, “Do I trust myself enough to handle the truth if this person disappoints me?”
Whew. Yeah. We’re going there.
We’ll unpack the difference between discernment and fear, boundaries and walls, intuition and anxiety—and how to recognize when your past is informing you versus when it’s governing you. And because we don’t just identify problems around this table, you’ll leave with practical questions and tools to help you slow down, separate facts from fear, communicate your triggers without weaponizing them, and stop making new people stand trial for somebody else’s behavior.
And before we toast, there’s one question I want you to sit with:
What does the person in front of you deserve that somebody from your past stole from them?
Baby…come sit at the table.
🎙️ Talk & Toast with Coach Chanel GWe talk it out. We work it out. And baby, we toast to what happens next.
Softness Is Not a Liability
2026/01/10
Somewhere along the way, strength stopped being a choice and started being requirement. In this 45-minute episode of Talk and Toast, we tell truth about softness- especially for Black women who learned early how to brace, how to survive, and how to stay ready in spaces that were never built for their care.
This conversation explores how strength became muscle memory, why softness started to feel risky, and what it costs us when resilience never gets to rest. We name the fatigue that often goes unseen and reframe softness not as weakness, but wisdom.
This episode is for anyone who's been praised for being strong while quietly longing for relief.
Pull up a chair
