Walk in the Spirit: When Faith Becomes a Life of Grace
What does it really mean to be “led by the Spirit”?
In today’s readings, Saint Paul contrasts the works of the flesh with the fruit of the Holy Spirit: charity, joy, peace, patience, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control. At the same time, Jesus confronts religious people who carefully observe outward practices while neglecting something far more important—the charity of God.
In this episode of the DTESH Catholic Place Podcast, we explore the difference between simply appearing religious and actually being transformed by grace.
We look at why Christian freedom does not mean freedom from obedience, why our actions still matter for salvation, and how the Holy Spirit changes us from the inside out. Drawing from Galatians 5, Luke 11, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the Catechism of the Council of Trent, Vatican II, and Haydock’s Catholic Bible Commentary, we discover a deeply Catholic understanding of grace, faith, obedience, and charity.
The Christian life is neither an attempt to earn salvation through religious performance nor a passive faith in which our actions no longer matter.
God gives grace. We receive.
God calls. We respond.
The Holy Spirit gives life—and we are called to walk in the Spirit.
In this episode:
The works of the flesh versus the fruit of the Spirit
What Saint Paul means by being “led by the Spirit”
Why grace and obedience are not enemies
The danger of outward religion without interior conversion
Why charity is central to the Christian life
How grace enables our cooperation with God
What it means to truly walk in the Spirit

What does Saint Paul mean when he warns us against seeking justification through the law—while the Psalms tell us to love God’s commandments?
In today’s episode of the DTESH Catholic Place Podcast, we explore Galatians 5:1–6 and Jesus’ confrontation with the Pharisees in Luke 11:37–41 to discover the difference between merely appearing righteous and being transformed by the grace of Christ.
At the center of the readings is Saint Paul’s powerful teaching: “faith that worketh by charity.”
Drawing from Sacred Scripture, Haydock’s Catholic Bible Commentary, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Saint Thomas Aquinas, and the teaching of the Church, we examine how grace, faith, obedience, and works of charity belong together in the Catholic life.
Christ does not free us so that our actions no longer matter. He frees us from trying to save ourselves and gives us the grace to become capable of truly loving God and our neighbor.
In this episode, discover why Christian freedom is not freedom from holiness, why outward religious practice must flow from interior conversion, and why living faith necessarily becomes active through charity.
Based on the Catholic Mass readings for Tuesday of the Twenty-Eighth Week in Ordinary Time, October 13, 2026.
