All of the Bible is God's word to us, Revelation is no exception to this! On Sunday 19th April Tim gave us a primer on the book of Revelation, ahead of the study evenings that were starting that coming week. The responsible way to read any book of the Bible, not just Revelation, is to ask, 'what kind of literature/writing it is?' and, 'how would the symbolism/metaphors/images have been understood by the people it was originally written to/for?' Remember that the Bible was written for us, but not to us! And the whole point is to hear what the Bible is saying to us, not to impose our view onto it! There is no one like Jesus. On Easter Sunday David Faulkner spoke about Jesus' resurrection, that Jesus' resurrection makes all things new. How no one who has ever lived can in any way start to compare to Jesus. And he shared from his own story how Jesus is not just a historical figure but a lived reality. The last significant speech Paul makes. On Sunday 29th March we finished our Acts series. Paul has had decades of travelling, preaching, planting churches and writing letters (that we still read today!). He's past the point of trivialities now, he knows what's important and he packs a punch as he speaks before Agrippa in Acts 26. The last words people say are important. On Sunday 22nd March we looked at Paul’s farewell to the Ephesian leaders in Acts where Luke (the author) captures what Paul truly values - the preaching of the Gospel, living with integrity; not just saying the right thing but living how Jesus lived, and suffering for Jesus; this was a marker of Paul's authenticity proving he spoke the truth. Giving is a way to meet with God, to encounter him and to be by changed by him. What you do with money will shape who you become. Once or twice a year we teach on one of the Spiritual Disciplines, these are things we can do to allow God to do things that we can't. On Sunday 1st March Tim gave part one on the Spiritual Discipline of giving and spoke about the formational power of money in our lives. What we do with our time and money shows what's important to us and what matters to us. The biggest lie we believe is that our money and possessions belong to us as their owners. Jesus didn't say 'where your heart is there your money will be'. Your heart will end up in the right place if you follow Jesus' advice. If you see money clearly the rest of your body will be full of light. Come back next week for part two! Baptisms are really special occasions at ACC and we were really excited to have a baptism service on 22nd February. As part of this, Tim explained what baptism is and why we do it. He also spoke about God's love. ❤️ Real love is not afraid to tell us the truth.❤️ God's love is not about the easy path. ❤️ Real love seeks our true good even when it is a painful process.❤️ God's love is action! Sacrificial action. ❤️ God's love saves us through this life, not from it. ❤️ God's love doesn't depend on you being lovely, it makes you lovely. Paul wanted to be counter to human culture. On Sunday 15th February we continued our series on Acts, reading from chapter 18 when Paul was in Corinth. Why did Paul do mission? In addition to loving God with all his heart, soul, mind and strength, Paul's love for people and his desire for them to meet and be changed by Jesus kept him going. We can have real confidence in God. He knows what we are going through. On Sunday 8th February we continued our series on Acts, looking specifically at how Holy Spirit led Paul and how he leads us. 1. Holy Spirit guides through reason - God leads and guides through our reasoned minds and trusts us to make decisions. 2. Holy Spirit guides by the closing and opening of doors. 3. Holy Spirit guides us together. 4. Holy Spirit leads us in the big and the small. We don't like tension. It feels uncomfortable, but the reality is that it creates energy and movement.
