This episode's guest is a film-maker who moved to Binghamton as a teenager and someone who I personally quickly became life-long friends with. From BMX Videos filmed on low-end handycams to advertising to full-on documentary productions, Jon Walley has found his voice through film and sound. He was in town for the final filming day for his new documentary Contact back in August and we got to connect and record this episode. He has a recent feature in Dig BMX (link below) and the documentary should be premiering relatively soon. Alex Capalongo came by to talk about an upcoming jam he is hosting this month in Ithaca, NY - The Lost Bowl Jam. James Yusczyk is no stranger to the GrindWorks podcast, in fact he was a part of the last episode we posted as well. But it's been a while (Episode 002) since we did an episode about what's going on in his life and updates thereof. As noted at the beginning of the show, we are going to be taking our webstore down for a while at the end of the year, so if you are in the market for anything, make sure to get it now. Link below. Andy Rozelle has a new project underway and wanted to tell you all about it and a NWC reboot with a big merch drop coming soon. We also hammered out a definitive(?) guide to "what is street?" in case you cared about the opinion of two washed up bike riders. And a whole bunch of other things as well to fill hours of time. I haven't met many people like Jake The Hippie. He does things his own way and is always having a good time in the process. He has his fair-share or haters out there and he never lets them get to him - in fact, he may just be trolling them. But you'll have to listen to find out. Tim Hankins is a St Louis local; owner of both Tim's Pre-Owned BMX Shop and Capital BMX Brand; and soon-to-be host of street jams in all 50 US states while living out of a bus. Tim addresses some negativity surrounding himself and his jam series and then discusses his desire to push beyond being "cancelled" and to complete the jam tour before settling back into St Louis to pursue the next chapter in his BMX journey: a brick and mortar storefront. This podcast was recorded over two discussions about nine months apart. It's a long one, but worth the listen if you have any manufacturing, machining, and other industry-based interests. How do you define success? A lot of people consider the attainment of wealth, favor, or eminence the default definition. But what if there are other goals and motivations? How do we define and measure success in other ways? This episode dives into this subject and I discuss learning tricks, school, athletics, work, starting a business, social media, and hobbies. Then we tackle a section at the end that is essentially the Lowdown, Part 3. Feel free to drop a comment with feedback and any other suggestions for us.
