Chasing the Wind 2
2026/09/27
Welcome to Gospel Rant, and our new series, Chasing the Wind!
CHASING THE WIND
Episode 2: Three Ways to Survive the World
Where Does Wisdom Come From?
The big idea:
The first podcast creates the suspicion: “Wait—maybe I’ve been reading Ecclesiastes wrong.”
Session 2 is designed to give you listeners the decoder ring they’ll need for the rest of the series.
Everybody needs wisdom because everybody is trying to answer the same question: What should I do next?
And there are essentially three answers:
Look within.Look around.Look up.
We will see what you think.
And now, it’s your turn…

Chasing the Wind 1
2026/09/20
Welcome to Gospel Rant, and our new series, Chasing the Wind!
CHASING THE WIND
Episode 1: What If Ecclesiastes Is a Joke?
The Joke We Missed in Ecclesiastes
The Most Depressing Man in the Bible
“Meaningless! Meaningless!”says the Teacher.“Utterly meaningless!Everything is meaningless.”
Welcome to Ecclesiastes. Have a nice day.
Seriously, what are we supposed to do with this guy?
He looks at work: meaningless.
Pleasure? Meaningless.
Wealth? Meaningless.
Wisdom? Eventually you're dead.
Righteous people suffer. Wicked people prosper. You can't figure out what God is doing. And whatever you accomplish, somebody else eventually gets it.
This is the wisdom book?
What if we've been missing something?
What if Ecclesiastes isn't simply telling us that life is absurd?
What if it's showing us the absurdity of trying to understand life without the one thing necessary to understand it?
What if Ecclesiastes... is satire?
We will see what you think.
And now, it’s your turn…

Breaking Badly 13: The Book of Judges
2026/09/13
Welcome to Gospel Rant, and our new series, Breaking Badly!
Episode 13 — The Darkness Before the King (Finale)
We’ve reached the end of the book of Judges.
And it ends in one of the darkest stories in the entire Bible.
A story of violence.
Cowardice.
Sexual brutality.
And moral collapse.
The narrator frames the entire section with the same haunting line:
“In those days Israel had no king.”
And what follows shows exactly what that means.
We will see what you think.
And now, it’s your turn…

Breaking Badly 12: The Book of Judges
2026/09/06
Welcome to Gospel Rant, and our new series, Breaking Badly!
Episode 12 — “No King in the Land”
If Disney had written the story of Israel…it ends with unity, gratitude, worship songs echoing across the hills.
But that’s not how it goes.
Instead, the defining line of the book of Judges is this:
“Everyone did what was right in their own eyes.”
And here’s the uncomfortable truth—that doesn’t sound ancient.
That sounds like us.
Today, we’re going to watch something unravel—not just a person…not just a family…but an entire religious system.
This is Breaking Badly.
We will see what you think.
And now, it’s your turn…

2026/08/30
Welcome to Gospel Rant, and our new series, Breaking Badly!
Episode 11 — Samson, Part 2: Strength Without a Soul
What happens when God raises up a deliverer…but the deliverer looks just like everyone else?
Strong.
Gifted.
Chosen by God.
But spiritually disconnected.
That’s the story of Samson.
And it may be the most unsettling story in the entire book of Judges.
We will see what you think.
And now, it’s your turn…

Breaking Badly 9: The Book of Judges
2026/08/16
Welcome to Gospel Rant, and our new series, Breaking Badly!
Episode 9 – Jephthah: When We Worship the Wrong God
What happens when people use the name of God…but no longer know who He really is?
They pray. They worship. They make promises to God.
But the God they imagine looks more like the gods of their culture than the God of Scripture.
That’s the tragedy we encounter in today’s story.
The story of Jephthah.
We will see what you think.

Breaking Badly 8: The Book of Judges
2026/08/09
Welcome to Gospel Rant, and our new series, Breaking Badly!
Episode 8 – Gideon: Victory… and the Drift (Part 2)
What happens when people who once knew God slowly forget Him?
Not all at once. Not with open rebellion.
But little compromises… quiet idols… and decisions that seem perfectly reasonable.
Welcome to the world of Judges.
The Book of Judges is the story of broken people, bad choices… and a God who refuses to walk away.
Last time we met Gideon.
A frightened man hiding in a winepress.
A man who blamed God for Israel’s suffering.
And yet a man whom God unexpectedly called a “mighty warrior.”
Today we watch what happens next.
And Gideon’s story becomes one of the most fascinating—and tragic—stories in the entire book of Judges.
Because Gideon’s life unfolds in three stages.
And those stages tell us something profound about the human heart.
We will see what you think.
And now, it’s your turn…

Breaking Badly 7: The Book of Judges
2026/08/02
Welcome to Gospel Rant, and our new series, Breaking Badly!
Episode 7: Gideon – The Coward in the Winepress (Part 1
Today we arrive at the central narrative of the book of Judges.
The story of Gideon.
And if Judges has been showing us the downward spiral of Israel, Gideon represents something important.
He represents Israel itself.
Weak.
Confused.
Spiritually insensitive.
Quick to blame God.
And yet… still chosen.
We will see what you think.
And now, it’s your turn…

2026/07/26
Welcome to Gospel Rant, and our new series, Breaking Badly!
Episode 6: Deborah, Barak, and the Cup of Glory
Today we come to one of the most remarkable stories in the entire book of Judges.
The story of Deborah and Barak.
And if we read it carefully, we discover that the real theme of this story is glory—the glory God delights to share with His people.
And now, it’s your turn…

Breaking Badly 1: The Book of Judges
2026/07/21
Welcome to Gospel Rant, and our new series on the book of Judges, Breaking Badly!
Imagine a nation collapsing.
Violence spreads.Civil war erupts.Families betray each other.Faith disappears.
And somehow…everyone still insists:
“We’re God’s people.”
That’s the book of Judges.
But here’s what’s shocking.
The collapse didn’t begin with war.
It began with something much quieter.
Something almost invisible.
Throughout the entire book of Judges…
Israel never goes to Shiloh.
Not once.
I will tell you why that mattered.
Welcome to Breaking Badly.
I chose a variation of the name of a very popular show back in 2008, Breaking Bad.
This is a journey through the book of Judges—
And now, it’s your turn…

Breaking Badly 5: The Book of Judges
2026/07/19
Welcome to Gospel Rant, and our new series, Breaking Badly!
Episode 5: Othniel and Ehud
Today we finally arrive at the first stories of the judges themselves.
But before we jump into those stories, it helps to remember how the book of Judges is structured.
Judges is not random storytelling. It is carefully arranged narrative.
The book begins with two prologues, which explain how Israel’s spiritual collapse began.
At the end of the book there are two epilogues, which show the depth of corruption that eventually overtakes Israel—including corruption among the priesthood itself.
Between those bookends are the stories of the judges.
Twelve of them.
The number twelve is probably intentional. Just as Israel had twelve tribes, the editor seems to be saying that every tribe had an opportunity to return to Yahweh.
But they didn’t.
And one more thing to remember: these judges probably did not serve sequentially. Many of them likely ruled in different regions at the same time.
Israel was geographically fragmented, and Canaanite peoples were scattered everywhere throughout the land.
Today we look at the first two judges in the narrative.
Othniel and Ehud.
Interestingly, they are the only judges in the book specifically described as being raised up by God.
We will see what you think.
And now, it’s your turn…

Breaking Badly 4: The Book of Judges
2026/07/12
Welcome to Gospel Rant, and our new series, Breaking Badly!
Episode 4: The Generation That Forgot
Today we arrive at the second prologue in the book of Judges.
The structure of Judges is fascinating.
The book begins with two prologues, which set up the problem.
Then come the stories of the judges themselves.
And finally the book ends with two epilogues, which show just how badly Israel ultimately breaks.
Today’s passage explains how the unraveling begins.
And now, it’s your turn…

Breaking Badly 3: The Book of Judges
2026/07/06
Welcome to Gospel Rant, and our new series, Breaking Badly!
Welcome back to Breaking Badly, our journey through one of the darkest—and most honest—books in the Bible: the book of Judges.
The Seven Nations
Over the centuries, powerful nations had filled the land.
Seven of them.
Each one militarily stronger than Israel.
Each one capable of tossing Israel around the ancient Near Eastern sandbox without much trouble.
But something remarkable had happened.
The Celestial Judge—the God of heaven and earth—had declared these nations guilty of rebellion against Him.
Guilty of what we might call cosmic treason.
And the sentence had been pronounced.
Judgment.
And then came the surprise.
Instead of executing that judgment Himself, God assigned Israel to carry it out.
Which, frankly, seems like a strange choice.
Because Israel wasn’t exactly a model nation.
They were also guilty of rebellion.
We will see what you think.
And now, it’s your turn…

Breaking Badly 2: The Book of Judges
2026/06/29
Welcome to Gospel Rant, and our new series, Breaking Badly!
Welcome back to Breaking Badly, our journey through one of the darkest—and most honest—books in the Bible: the book of Judges.
Last episode we talked about something surprising.
The tragedy of Judges is not simply that Israel worshiped idols.
It’s that they stopped seeking God.
They stopped going to the place where God commanded them to meet Him—Shiloh.
Instead, the book repeats one haunting phrase:
“Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.”
Once that happened, everything else began to unravel.
But today we run into something even harder.
Because before we even get to the stories of the judges, we have to confront one of the most troubling commands in the entire Bible.
It’s the command to destroy the Canaanites.
We will see what you think.
And now, it’s your turn…
