October 27th: Walter McMillian Born (1941) Witnesses who testify on your behalf should, in theory, help your case tremendously. But what happens when the police and the courts don’t listen to those people? On October 27th 1941 a man was born who would be accused of a devastating crime. One in which there was proof of his innocence but, for reasons beyond his control, the legal system was unwilling to listen. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_McMillian, https://deathpenaltyinfo.org/resources/high-school/courtroom-cases/walter-mcmillian-1985, https://www.law.umich.edu/special/exoneration/Pages/casedetail.aspx?caseid=3461, https://scholar.lib.vt.edu/VA-news/ROA-Times/issues/1993/rt0393/930303/03030219.htm, https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/politics/1993/03/03/alabama-frees-death-row-prisoner/8fa8b1d1-6f46-4396-82ea-1a863eda2130/, https://eji.org/cases/walter-mcmillian/#:~:text=In%201986%2C%20an%2018%2Dyear,attention%20focused%20on%20Walter%20McMillian., https://keypennews.org/stories/seeking-a-just-mercy-by-bryan-stevenson-a-story-of-justice-and-redemption,6283, https://www.tricityledger.com/story/2020/12/24/news/morrison-is-still-looking-for-justice-in-rhondas-murder/5091.html Learn more about your ad choices. October 21st: Joann Bartholomew Killed (1987) Some cases seem so simple that it feels like they should be easier to solve. No elaborate set up, DNA left behind, and no real premeditation. Yet here we are decades later with no answers to speak of. https://www.ohioattorneygeneral.gov/Files/Law-Enforcement/Investigator/Cold-Case/Homicides/Bartholomew, https://www.wkyc.com/article/news/cold-case-not-forgotten/95-723084b2-58ee-44c7-90a8-969d0ce745e3, https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/news/2022/03/30/stow-police-family-want-answers-in-true-crime-1987-murder-of-joann-bartholomew/6662221001/, https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/news/local/2013/12/30/state-initiative-on-unsolved-homicides/10356657007/, https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-akron-beacon-journal-possible-link-i/67392189/, https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/news/2023/11/24/unresolved-police-cold-unsolved-cases-from-the-akron-ohio-area-and-beyond/71420758007/ Learn more about your ad choices.
