As we jump back into the Gospel of Matthew, we come to a confrontation between Jesus and the Pharisees. The Pharisees have a problem with what Jesus is allowing His disciples to do. You see, the religious leaders have set up a massive list of dos and don'ts about the Sabbath (Mostly don'ts). What they've done is overcomplicated the Sabbath to the point that it became a day of burden instead of a day of rest. Jesus is decluttering it. He is simplifying faith by contesting their objections. Resurrection Sunday! We come to the ultimate victory, Jesus defeats death. He undoes what sin did many years before. Jesus defeats sin and death by resurrecting in a Garden which is the same type of setting where Adam lost the battle. Jesus said that John the Baptist was the greatest one ever born of women. That is a huge statement. What made John so special? Well, for one, he was a man who did not bend to cultural shifts. One of the issues that must be spoken about is fear. We can become fearful of spreading the gospel. Either by being rejected or experiencing opposition. As Jesus sends out the disciples He now informs them that they should expect opposition. And that opposition will come from different sources. The main idea Jesus brings out is not to let opposition stop us.
