Email Marketing for Musicians: Where Followers Become Fans
2026/09/21
Step 4 of the Bond Marketing Funnel. Email is the most valuable tool an independent musician has, because it's the one place you actually own the relationship with your fans. No algorithm. No disappearing reach. If you spent half the time on email that you spend on social media, your career would look completely different. In this solo episode, Ariel Hyatt of Cyber PR breaks down Step 4 of the Bond Marketing Funnel: Email. This isn't a lesson on writing a newsletter. It's a mini masterclass on turning subscribers into fans who open, reply, and show up. You'll learn: • Why the word "newsletter" can cut your open rates, and what to do instead • What to actually send: long form letters, curated value drops, and timely updates • Why replies are the secret to staying out of spam • Why cleaning dead subscribers off your list makes it stronger • How a three part welcome series turns new signups into real fans Want the step by step on growing your list? Building a Sustainable Music Career with Emily White

Ariel Hyatt sits down with author, entrepreneur, and music industry expert Emily White to unpack the first steps of the Bond Marketing Funnel—a powerful framework for helping artists move beyond chasing visibility and start building lasting relationships with fans who genuinely support their work. Emily shares why artists must stop relying on algorithms and social platforms alone and instead focus on owning their audience through direct connections, email lists, text messaging, meaningful experiences, and authentic communication. The conversation covers everything from artist identity and fan relationships to creating fan sanctuaries, building repeatable systems, and monetising music in a way that feels genuine and sustainable.
Capture Buckets: How Artists Build Real Fan Ownership
2026/06/06
Most artists have one capture bucket. Maybe. And they're bleeding potential fans every single day because of it. In this solo episode, Ariel Hyatt breaks down Step 3 of the Bond Marketing Funnel: Capture Buckets. This is the framework she uses with every Cyber PR client to help artists stop depending on Zuckerberg and Ek to hold their audience, and start building something they actually own. You'll learn the seven types of capture buckets, why most artists are invisible to their own fans, and what it actually takes to turn a moment of attention into a lasting relationship. In this episode: Why attention is not the goal, ownership is The Buzz Marketing Danger Loop that's costing you real fans The "pouring rain" metaphor that reframes your entire capture strategy Your Big Fat Juicy Bribe: what it is and how to design one for your ideal fan persona Why 22 social media icons on your website is killing your conversions The highest-conversion moment you're probably wasting (hint: it's live) Why physical address capture is old school and exactly why it works The Voice alumni with four record deals and zero email list (and what happened next) The seven capture buckets covered in this episode: Website email capture The exclusive offer (your Big Fat Juicy Bribe) Social media capture Pre-save capture Real-world, in-real-life capture Text and SMS capture Physical address capture Resources mentioned: Free Buzz to Bond Webinar: https://cyber-pr.kit.com/5b12b034d2 Buzz to Bond 7-Week Mastermind: https://cyberprmusic.com/product/buzz-to-bond-7-week-mastermind/ From Buzz to Bond (the book): https://cyberprmusic.com/product/from-buzz-to-bond/ 300+ free music marketing articles: https://cyberprmusic.com

In this episode you will learn:  Why most independent artists waste enormous energy chasing what everyone else is doing, and what to do instead  How collaboration became the single biggest shift in Cassandra's career and how you can apply it to yours  The honest truth about why buzz marketing feeds your ego but starves your career  How to build repeatable strategies that actually grow your fan base over time  Why brand pillars feel impossible for so many artists, and how to finally get out of your own head  What it means to build a music career from your true north instead of the culture's noise  The one calendar habit that keeps Cassandra consistent with her fans every single month Whether you are just starting out or have been at this for years, Cassandra's philosophy of moving from fear to freedom will shift the way you think about building your career. Social Media & Online Tuneup
2026/05/23
Social Media & Online Tuneup | Cyber PR Music Podcast Ep. 5 | Buzz to Bond Season Most artists are leaking fans every single day and they don't even know it. Someone hears your music on Spotify. They get curious. They click your profile. There's no link to Instagram. No link to anything. Fan journey: dead. Someone Googles a lyric. They actually find you. They land on your website. The song those lyrics belong to isn't even there. Dead fan journey. In this episode, I'm walking you through Step 2 of the Bond Marketing Funnel: the Social Media and Website Tuneup. This is what my agency Cyber PR has done for artists for years, and it is the foundation everything else is built on. In this episode you'll learn: → Why your fan journey is probably broken right now (and how to fix it) → The simple discovery, interest, action, fan framework every artist needs → Why your website is the only thing online you actually own → How to audit your social media profiles starting with a Google of yourself → The one link rule and why too many choices lose fans fast → How to turn your email list into a warm invitation, not a junk mail trap → Why asking friends to Google you is one of the most useful things you can do This is not glamorous work. But it is the work that makes everything else in your marketing actually function. Clean up your digital house. Make everything match. Make everything flow. Ask yourself: if I found me today, would I know what to do next? Ready to go deeper? The Buzz to Bond 7-Week Mastermind launches July 13, 2026. Small group, live, step by step. How to Craft an Artists' Story: The Art of the Perfect Bio for Musicians
2026/05/16
Your songs might be great. That's not enough. In this episode, I sit down with Lorne Behrman, my friend of twenty years and the bio writer Cyber PR has trusted for over a decade. He has never once had a bio rejected. Not the whole thing, not even two or three sentences of it. I wanted to know how. We get into what actually makes a bio work, why most artists approach it completely backwards, and why no AI tool is coming for this job anytime soon. What you'll learn in this episode: Why "I was born in New Jersey and started playing piano" is the single most common bio mistake, and what a real signature story looks like instead How Lorne draws a story out of introverted or guarded artists using twenty questions built for do your homework, not a script Why the best material almost always comes after the interview ends, in a voice memo from the shower or a text from a dog walk Why bios matter more now, not less, in a glut of a million songs a week on Spotify The exact reason AI-written bios all sound the same, and why that sameness is the giveaway Why artists over 50 should stop hiding their age in their story, and why the people who actually buy records are the ones who've lived a little Why running from your genre never works, and how embracing it is what makes people trust you What to do if you can't afford a bio writer yet: interview yourself first Anchor lines from this episode: "You're like saying, help me, please listen to me. And the way you do that is a story." "AI bios all look the same because they're a synthesis of what's already out there." "It's okay to be how old you are. In fact, it works for you." "If you're authentic, you don't have to remember any artifice." Brand Pillars, Fan Personas, and Voice — Step 1 of the Bond Marketing Funnel
2026/05/09
Most artists skip this step entirely. They jump straight to posting, promoting, and chasing Spotify plays without ever asking the most important question first: who are you, who are you for, and how do you actually sound? In this solo episode, Ariel walks through Step 1 of the Bond Marketing Funnel — Brand Pillars, Fan Personas, and Voice — and explains why everything else you do in your music career depends on getting this right first. What you'll learn in this episode: Why most artists go straight to content before they have clarity — and why that is exactly backwards. What brand pillars actually are and why they are your silent true north, not something you announce to a room. How to define your fan personas so you stop trying to talk to everyone and start connecting with the right people. Why your voice has nothing to do with your singing voice or production style — and everything to do with how people experience you before they even hear your music. Why vague does not convert and safe does not sell. How clarity creates connection and connection creates income. Why your story is your biggest asset — especially if you are an older artist or an introvert. The anchor lines from this episode: "Your voice is how people recognize you before they even hear your music." "If you sound like everyone, you connect with no one." "People don't buy music. They buy connection." "Clarity creates connection. Connection creates income." Getting Your Mindset Right with Julie Flanders
2026/05/02
Episode 2: Getting Your Mindset Right with Julie Flanders Before you can build a fanbase, you have to get your head straight. In this episode, Ariel sits down with her longtime mentor, musician, and October Project founder Julie Flanders — a woman who has lived every version of a music career, from signing with Sony to making music in her living room. Julie brings something no marketing strategy can replace: the mindset work that has to come before any of it. This conversation will stop you in your tracks. What you'll learn in this episode: Why burnout is a signal, not a badge of honor — and what it's actually telling you about your career choices. Why "how do you want to feel" is the most important question any artist can ask — and how to use it as a compass for every decision. Why self-validation is the secret weapon most artists overlook — and why the artists who have it attract more external validation than those desperately chasing it. Why your record label can amplify what you do but will never give you what you haven't already given yourself. How October Project built a real fanbase before anyone had a name for it — and what bond marketing looked like before social media existed. Why putting marketing before creativity is the fastest path to falling out of love with your career. Consent, Collaboration, and Caution: Web 3.0, The Metaverse and AI
2023/09/29
In episode 6, I sat down with extraordinary visual artist, musician, and Metaverse expert Carrie Able, to discuss the fascinating intersection of AI, art, and the future of music. Throughout the episode, Carrie shares insightful perspectives on the unique art that we all know and love (like the art you can visit in museums) and how AI falls short in replicating its depth and creativity. She also delves into her exciting journey of creating standalone music that inspires art. We discuss the potential risks and benefits of AI in the art industry. Carrie emphasizes the need for regulation and consent in using people's data and imagery for training AI systems. We cover inspiring examples of breaking genre boundaries, such as the Barbie movie, which exemplifies that AI is not yet capable of replicating the creative spark that comes from human imagination. She shares her personal journey as an artist, from being an apprentice to a portrait painter at a young age to embracing tech-related art and becoming an artist in residence at a VR studio. Then she swings into her collaboration and the exciting future possibilities of augmented reality and VR technology. This technology is important to pay attention to because Carrie thinks it could revolutionize the way we experience art and music, similar to how the iPhone revolutionized the industry. Carrie sheds light on the importance of artists owning their own data, creativity, and online assets in virtual worlds, emphasizing the potential of Web 3.0, crypto NFTs, and the Metaverse for artists. Overall, this episode is a treasure trove of insights and ideas that will leave you excited about the future of music, art, and technology.
Digital Dexterity: Decoding the AI Musicians' Maze By Testing Tools, Apps & Sites
2023/07/18
In this episode, we dive into the world of AI music-making tools and their rising popularity. My guest, Kristin Juel, did extensive research for Water & Music and had a LOT to say about why it is critical to get proactively out in front of all the AI tools that are coming to market and why it is empowering for artists to test and understand what's available. This not only alleviates the fear of the unknown but also as Kristin says "Don't wait for it to become something that's a nuisance. Get in the mindset, and start looking at the opportunities." Different types of people, from hobbyists to professional musicians, are utilizing these AI music-making tools. While initially concerned about the future of humanity with the rise of technology, Kristin emphasizes that human creativity remains essential and that humans ultimately control the conversation. We also explore the possibility of AI influencing the creation of hit songs instead of completely writing them, the importance of people feeling capable and able to express themselves and we highlight the challenges and blessings of putting yourself at the forefront of innovation in the music industry.    List of tools, sites, and AI apps mentioned in the episode: Boomy - https://boomy.com  -  Create original songs in seconds, even if you've never made music before Grimes AI Voice Tool - https://elf.tech/connect  Magenta Studio: Free AI tools for Ableton Live https://www.ableton.com/en/blog/magenta-studio-free-ai-tools-ableton-live/  Abelton's amazing AI Tool Blog Post -  Mentions dozens of tools to know about - https://www.ableton.com/en/blog/ai-and-music-making-the-state-of-play/  Never Before Heard Sounds - https://heardsounds.com/  Midjourney - https://www.midjourney.com/ Use for story boards when creating music videos, or EP, and single covers  Landr - https://www.landr.com- Create, collaborate, master, distribute and promote your music all in one place.

Rhythm & Reflection: Why Musicians Need an AI Point Of View
2023/06/01
On this episode of The Cyber PR Music Podcast, host Ariel Hyatt speaks with software engineer and Myxt co-founder Chris Wetherell about AI in music and the need for a cultural understanding around technology. Wetherell shares insights on his current work in mastering, audio pattern detection, and transcription services, as well as the breakthrough in AI language translation that happened in 2017. He also discusses his concerns about government understanding of technology and the weaponization of social media, a topic he knows a LOT about as he had a front-row seat at Twitter. Key takeaways include the importance of musicians developing a point of view on AI in music, the potential impact on vocalists and instrumentalists, and the need for early conversation around the cultural impact of technology. About Chris Wetherell Chris Wetherell is a musician turned Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Myxt. An early engineer at Google, Chris started the popular Google Reader app used by millions worldwide. Chris then went on to work at Twitter as the lead on implementing its Retweet feature. He also started Thing Labs, Avocado Software, and was most recently the Chief Product Officer of the geographic data analysis platform, Tierra. Chris attended University of California, Berkeley where he studied Computer Science and Music. Link About it: Myxt - https://myxt.com/  Eleven Labs - https://beta.elevenlabs.io/    Key takeaways: - Musicians should develop a point of view on AI in music to prepare for its impact on the industry. - Vocalists should take action to own the transformation of their own voice with AI. - There are concerns about the weaponization of social media and how AI can facilitate language generation. - There is a prediction of a new development in the music industry that will likely create a new business model. - The conversation around the cultural impact of technology should be held early on in its development.
Melodies in the Machine: Legal Landmines of AI-Generated Music with Ryan Kairalla, Music Attorney & Break The Business Podcast Host
2023/05/24
On episode 2 of The Cyber PR Music Podcast, AI Season  we dive into the world of AI and creativity. The music industry is facing a new challenge that requires attention from lawyers and lawmakers to create new laws that fit the existing landscape and address the rise of AI. However, the potential of AI in the music industry is enormous, allowing artists to create work more easily and more effectively. First, we discuss the legal challenges surrounding AI-generated content after the much covered AI debacle with fake Drake and The Weeknd, causing DSPs to take down the song. Then, we explore how AI, specifically Chat GPT, can help creators with the tedious and less enjoyable parts of content creation, such as writing blog posts or generating musical ideas. Ryan emphasizes how AI can help save time and allow for more human-oriented creativity, but we must ensure human involvement to prevent AI from pushing fans away. We also discuss AI collabs with artists and the importance of being transparent with fans about AI's use in the creative process. Tune in to discover the exciting possibilities of AI in the music industry from the perspective of an entertainment attorney. " Using AI to collaborate with artists requires legal precautions. Trademark and rights of publicity issues arise when using a celebrity's name or likeness, but general templates of terms of service with legal waivers can protect both parties. Grimes' collaborative model of allowing her voice to be used with clear disclaimers and legal protection can be a possible solution." - Ryan Kairalla, Music attorney and Break The Business Podcast Host
