Our gentleness is to be known to everyone—but gentleness is not what we may think it is … its a willingness to demonstrate love rather than argue and prove yourself right (or to demand your own rights). It is a willingness to overlook offense for the sake of showing someone else mercy and love. It is to go beyond expectations in showing mercy when justice is expected and required. In this study, we explore Philippians 4:5 and discover what it means for us to respond like Jesus in every situation. ------------ » Take these studies deeper and be discipled in person by Nathan, Eric, Leslie, and the team at Ellerslie in one of our upcoming discipleship programs – learn more at: https://ellerslie.com/be-discipled/ » Receive our free “Five Keys to Walking Through Difficulty” PDF by going to: https://ellerslie.com/subscribe/ » For more information about Daily Thunder and the ministry of Ellerslie Mission Society, please visit: https://ellerslie.com/daily » If you have been blessed by Ellerslie, consider partnering with the ministry by donating at: https://ellerslie.com/donate/ » Discover more Christ-centered teaching and resources from Nathan Johnson that will help you grow spiritually by checking out his website at: https://deeperchristian.com/

We have a territory to rule and protect. And the decisions we make don’t just impact our own territory but that of the world surrounding us. Like Alfred, if we learn to do this “ruling” thing right, we could change the world. ------------ » Take these studies deeper and be discipled in person by Nathan, Eric, Leslie, and the team at Ellerslie in one of our upcoming discipleship programs – learn more at: https://ellerslie.com/be-discipled/ » Receive our free “Five Keys to Walking Through Difficulty” PDF by going to: https://ellerslie.com/subscribe/ » For more information about Daily Thunder and the ministry of Ellerslie Mission Society, please visit: https://ellerslie.com/daily » If you have been blessed by Ellerslie, consider partnering with the ministry by donating at: https://ellerslie.com/donate/

Christians are supposed to have a certain focus of their mind—or, as Paul says, “think on these things.” In this special series, Nathan teaches from Philippians 4:4–8 and discusses what it means not only to have a Christian mindset, but to let it affect every aspect of your life. In this first study, he discusses the biblical aspects of joy and what it means to practically “rejoice always.” ------------ » Take these studies deeper and be discipled in person by Nathan, Eric, Leslie, and the team at Ellerslie in one of our upcoming discipleship programs – learn more at: https://ellerslie.com/be-discipled/ » Receive our free “Five Keys to Walking Through Difficulty” PDF by going to: https://ellerslie.com/subscribe/ » For more information about Daily Thunder and the ministry of Ellerslie Mission Society, please visit: https://ellerslie.com/daily » If you have been blessed by Ellerslie, consider partnering with the ministry by donating at: https://ellerslie.com/donate/ » Discover more Christ-centered teaching and resources from Nathan Johnson that will help you grow spiritually by checking out his website at: https://deeperchristian.com/

In the year 872 the Vegas odds were against Alfred and his future portended hopelessness, yet all these many years later we refer to this guy as Alfred the Great. Why? Because God enjoys proving the oddsmakers wrong. Alfred’s story is remarkable, and ours should be, too.

Of all the letters, the one to Laodicea contains the sharpest rebuke from Christ. The church has nothing good to say about it, and yet, while there is a warning if they don’t repent, there is also an amazing invitation into relationship and intimacy with Jesus Christ. In this study, we examine Revelation 3:15-22 and explore Jesus’ statements about lukewarm living, what that likely meant and why Laodicea was considered lukewarm, as well as Jesus’ invitation back to relationship through repentance. Of all the messages to the seven churches, this is one you don’t want to miss.

In our modern day, the most well-known of the seven letters is the one to Laodicea. Yet, while we know many of Jesus' statements to that church, we don't understand the background, the city itself, and how Jesus introduces Himself (and why that is important). That is the focus of this study from Revelation 3:14.

Merle Oddbody is a very unexpected and humorous character in the novel, Hoodlum, written by Eric and his son Hudson (view it on Amazon here). Merle Oddbody is synonymous with weakness, foolishness, and being a stranger in this earth—things that most of us labor hard to avoid. If we had the opportunity to transform into one of the characters from the Hoodlum universe, we would likely not pick to become Merle. We would likely lean towards becoming a character like Will Scarlett, Robin Hood, Charles Blakeney, Lady Marion, or Ambrick Miller. All good sensible choices. And yet, Jesus chose to become a Merle Oddbody. If we can learn to see what God sees, we would see that weakness is actually the secret avenue to strength.
