Followers of Jesus in the past have literally died to get the Bible to us. They were convinced that people needed to hear the truth (in their own language) about who Jesus is and what He came to do. In today's passage, we'll hear the good news that Jesus is the Christ who came to die and be raised. And we'll hear Jesus say that following Him entails denying ourselves and dying daily. This is how we live.

God has always supplied us with everything we need. Yet there are situations we face in which it is clear that we don't have what it takes. What we have is not enough. The disciples find themselves in a situation like this in today's passage.

In February 2023, we began working our way through the gospel according to Luke, verse by verse. Luke is a true and trustworthy story about Jesus written so that all kinds of people would have certainty about who He is and what He accomplished. We got to the end of chapter 8 before Thanksgiving, so we pick it up in chapter 9 today.

Growing up can be awkward but growing up is good. We started this year with a short sermon series in Ephesians called "Christ's Building Project." We close out that series today by looking at a passage that lays out a central aim of the church. Namely, the church is called to grow up together as one body, in love, into the head, Christ. As we apply this passage to our church, we'll look at 5 ways we could stunt our growth and we'll end, fittingly, by remembering the love of Christ as we take communion together.

Our world is confused about the truth. In the midst of this world, though, Jesus is building His church. Today we continue our short sermon series covering just a few verses in Ephesians. In Ephesians 4:13-14 we will see the lofty goal, the perfect standard, and the dangerous default. We'll hear the good news that though we are easily deceived and living in a truth-denying world, the church is built when we are united in the faith, knowing Jesus, and growing toward maturity in Him.

As our church grows in number and considers a building project, we're starting out this year with a short sermon series from Ephesians. Last week we were challenged to be a church built on prayer from Ephesians 3:14-21. For the next 3 weeks we will look at Ephesians 4:11-16, covering just two verses each week. Today we dive deep into verses 11-12 where we'll see that Jesus gives His church people in certain roles who equip the saints to do the work that builds the body.

Before getting back to Luke we begin the year with 4 sermons from Ephesians in a short series we're calling "Christ's Building Project." As our church considers building, what is Christ already building? As our church grows in number, what other kinds of growth do we pray for God to bring? Today we look at the final verses of the first half of Ephesians. Before hearing a beautiful doxology of praise, we'll hear how Paul prayed for the church in Ephesus. In the year ahead, may God make us a church built on prayer and growing in strength for His glory.

We go into 2024 with 3 big questions to consider. Where is our confidence? What is our message? Why must we sing? Those questions will be answered today as we explore and apply Revelation 5. This chapter is a glorious revelation of Jesus -- the Lion of Judah, the Lamb who was slain. If we are convinced of nothing else, may we be convinced of this: He is worthy.

And then flowing from Psalm 132, we'll see 4 gospel truths that help us really celebrate Christmas.

We are getting ready for Christmas this year by looking back at some Psalms that point to the coming Messiah. We may have missed the reference to the coming Messiah in last week's Psalm had it not been for the one quotation of it in the New Testament. Today is a different story. Today we look at Psalm 110 which begins with the most-quoted Old Testament verse in the New Testament. Let's come to Jesus together through Psalm 110.

Songs are often written for an used at special occasions. Christmas songs are sung in December. Happy Birthday is sung on birthdays. Today we continue our Advent series in the Psalms by looking at a beautiful song written for and used at a royal wedding. What is this song about? Why would we look at it today to help us prepare for Christmas?
