Description

The Plantbased, Not Perfect podcast is all about striving to be our healthiest selves, while living in the real world. With a master's degree in Technical Writing, Elizabeth explains complicated health topics in a format that is easy to digest. After her mom almost died from congestive heart failure caused by a root canal infection, Elizabeth became passionate about living a healthy lifestyle free from disease. This led her into the plantbased world and eventually inspired her to create #plantbasednotperfect - a sustainable way of living a plant-centric life that doesn't strive for perfection - just encourages making healthier choices to help achieve optimal health. Podcast topics range from health and wellness, plantbased studies and interviews, to food and finances, emotional and mental health, skincare and everything in between.

From food and fitness, to hydration, mental health and recovery, we chat all things postpartum as I share my personal experience along with studies on: oats and milk production, caffeine consumption while breastfeeding and average weight loss postpartum. 224. Is Oat Milk Healthy?
2025/03/10
For today's episode I thought it would be interesting to break down whether oat milk is "bad" for you because it seems to consistently be demonized in the media and I wanted to know for myself since I personally like it. We cover the three major arguments people pose when discussing oat milk and break down what the science has to say about each one: It raises your blood sugar. It is a source of seed oils which are "bad" for you. It is sprayed with glyphosates which lead to cancer. I also share the flip side which is the positives of drinking oat milk and help you make the decision best for your health. Question from IG. 2025/02/03
In today's episode I have a BIG life update that I have been keeping to myself, which is that I am pregnant and yes, still plantbased, not perfect. I'm so excited to get to share the news with you and answer some of the top health and wellness questions that naturally come. I hope this episode provides you with insight, personal experience and hope - that you can get pregnant and have a health pregnancy over the age of 40 and while plantbased! What made me change my mind about having a baby? Did I change my diet or take any supplements to help get pregnant? How did I find out / know? Did I have any morning sickness? Did I crave anything? what about animal products? Product switches: body care, skincare, beauty products Discussing my diet with my midwife & pressures from health professionals What symptoms have I had during pregnancy - has my endometriosis pain returned? Which prenatal vitamin have I been taking? How far along am I now? Update on my pregnancy. Any resources I have been getting help from along the way? 222. Food Dyes: Harmless or Harmful?
2025/01/06
With the California School Food Safety Act banning the state's public schools from serving or selling foods containing six synthetic food dyes and protests at Kellogg to remove synthetic food dyes in U.S. products, driven by the the Food Babe Vanity Hari, plus discussions on this topic at the Senate - I felt like it was timely to deep dive on food dyes. From explaining what they are and why they are even in our foods, to why Europe bans them, what the studies have to show on food dyes and hyperactivity in children, and U.S. history on food dyes over the years, we break down this trending topic to get to the truth. We discuss the argument of the dose making the poison, the amount of food dyes children are actually consuming, the other food chemicals to consider in processed foods, plus practical solutions you can start today to make healthier choices for yourself and your family.
