Article on Alma 13 - LDS - Priesthood by Matt Lohrke
Priesthood. The very word carries much baggage in mormon/restoration culture. It is almost impossible to discuss the subject without carrying in our understandings of offices such as elder, high priest, bishop, 70, patriarch, lesser and higher priesthood, communicating with the church of the firstborn, keys to the ministry of angels, etc. We have ideas of a hierarchical structure with different "offices" holding different keys, not available to the basic member, but given under "authority" with hands placed on the heads of men. We even have a structure laid out telling who can "preside" over meetings based on priesthood office and structure in a peking order so to speak based on more knowledge and possession of "the spirit" in relation to what office is held. "If an elder is present a priest can't preside over worship or a service, if a deacon is present he can preside but not if a teacher or priest is present, reserving the position to the "highest office". As if the office gives more access to God, based on position ,and potential to possess a higher degree of the spirit. This leads to a misunderstanding of who God is and what He has desired and called each true follower to. It is very difficult but important to return to the Word of God to dismantle incorrect teachings given post 1830 by Joseph Smith that are not in harmony with the bible and the Book of Mormon . It is difficult to see through the traditions and false teachings of men to understand the clear intention and desire of our creator in being co-laborers with him. Stewards over this creation and adhere to the truth He has given. We often settle for a lesser way, often the way that comes from the hearts of men or even the adversary but not from God. In this series we return to what God has laid out in scripture prior to Joseph Smith and 1830. If man later contradicts this Word previously given, by taking away or adding to Christ's gospel, we once again fall into a lesser way, rejecting the potential and perfect plan our Creator has laid out. And we suffer for it.

Part 2 in our series reclaiming the Book of Mormon gospel, a series looking at conflicting doctrine within the restoration movement including RLDS, LDS, Community of christ and other off shoots of the church formed by Joseph Smith. We stress the gospel contained in the Book of Mormon as a great gift and when men add to this doctrine we need to reject it. We continue the topic of salvation and how it was changed in the doctrine and covenants to conflict with Christ's message in the Book of Mormon . No prison house, no glories, no levels of salvation but complete surrender and transformation by Christ required.

Special guest Dene presents what the Lord has placed on his heart about enduring with Christ as part of our covenant walk. In part two we discuss the Holy order of God, and what the difference is in "doing" the gospel versus becoming a transformed creature.
Why Must We Endure?
Because baptism does not remove the flesh.
It begins a lifelong journey of learning to yield the flesh to the Holy
Ghost until Christ is fully formed in us.
The Holy Ghost is not the finish line.
He is given to lead us as the walk begins.

339 Hansen/Stucky p2 What Hansen could have said about who Jesus is, using the Book of Mormon

Video podcast here:
In his recent interview, Jacob Hansen never once quotes from or references the Book of Mormon. It’s no wonder—doing so would have forced him to confront the clear differences between what the Book of Mormon actually teaches and what the modern LDS Church teaches today.
Instead of relying on the Book of Mormon, he turns to later teachings from Joseph Smith and other church traditions that came after the book was published. This pattern is common among the LDS Church, the RLDS/Community of Christ, and many other Mormon offshoots: they often set aside their original book of scripture in favor of later developments.
In this episode, we look at what the Book of Mormon actually says about who Jesus is.
We believe the Book of Mormon is the word of God. Its message is centered on Jesus Christ. Far from contradicting the Bible, it beautifully complements and clarifies it. The Book of Mormon powerfully reinforces the core doctrines of mercy, justice, repentance, salvation, and eternal life so they cannot be misunderstood.
Above all, it testifies of the atonement of Jesus Christ. It presents Jesus as God Himself who took on flesh, came to earth, and died for our sins. It is a sacred record of the descendants of Joseph—specifically the tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh—preserved for our day.
The Bible was originally written in Hebrew and Greek before being translated into English. Because of this, many different English versions exist—each the result of careful work by scholars, linguists, and translators. In contrast, the Book of Mormon was translated only once, by the gift and power of God, using divinely prepared instruments. The Lord Himself guided the process, removing human interpretation and choosing words that precisely convey the meaning He wants us to understand.
This is an extraordinary gift that helps us clearly know what we need for our salvation and for building a personal relationship with our Creator.

ARE YOU SAVED? Have you spiritually been born of God?Have you received His image in your own countenance?Have you experienced a mighty change of heart?Do you have no more disposition to do evil? Are you free from all pride? Are you free from envy? If you were called to die today, could you say within yourself that you have been sufficiently humble?
Are you free to love the world as Jesus loved? Are you in need of a savior?
There is no other name given and no other way or means that salvation can come unto the children of men- Only in and through the name of Christ, the Lord Omnipotent
Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ Moro 10
We are called to love God and one another as Jesus loved.
This takes a lifetime of submitting to Him, praying to Him, using the Holy Spirit as your guide, to be changed and transformed into a citizen fit for The Kingdom.
DO NOT LOSE SIGHT OF THE GOAL!
Behold He sends an invitation to all men, and His arms of mercy are extended toward them, and He says "Repent and I will receive you. Come unto Me and you shall partake of the fruit of the tree of life"

336 Separating "the church" from the Book of Mormon: Was the church restored in 1830 p5

VIDEO PODCAST HERE
This concludes our series examining whether the Church was restored in 1830. In this final installment, we review additional revelations that did not come to pass, along with various challenges that arose under the leadership of Joseph Smith as prophet.
Our hope throughout this series is that viewers will thoughtfully consider whether the church organization established by Joseph Smith and his associates was truly divine in origin or the product of human effort. We have sought to clearly distinguish between the restored church structure and the simple, foundational gospel taught in the Book of Mormon.
Upon closer examination, the Book of Mormon stands apart in both spirit and substance—particularly in its emphasis on simplicity—from many of the doctrines and practices that were later introduced through Joseph Smith’s revelations. We invite all who watch to prayerfully ponder these matters. We encourage you to approach the Book of Mormon with fresh eyes, asking God to help you separate longstanding church traditions from its core message: the simple call to repentance made possible by the Savior’s atoning sacrifice on the cross.
The Book of Mormon is unequivocal in its teaching that only those who repent are covered by the Atonement of Jesus Christ and receive everlasting life in His kingdom.

VIDEO PODCAST
In our previous episode, we explored the simple, straightforward church that Jesus Christ established in the Book of Mormon, along with its clear and plain doctrine: repent, be baptized, receive the Holy Ghost, become as a little child, and endure to the end.
Today, we turn our attention to 1830, when Joseph Smith declared himself a prophet, apostle, elder, and the sole spokesman for God. Although he was instructed to record the doctrines he received, the Book of Mormon records that Jesus Himself commanded His followers to write down His doctrine and warned them not to add to it.
In this episode, we examine the significant additions that were later introduced, and we ask a serious question: Was Joseph Smith truly a prophet? And would a true prophet set aside or override the previous teachings of Jesus Christ?
We’ll share direct quotes from early church meetings that declared older revelations and doctrines outdated, claiming that new instructions were needed for a new time. Yet we maintain that God does not change, and neither does His word.
By the end of this episode, we hope you’ll clearly see the striking differences between the simple church described in the Book of Mormon and the modern church established by Joseph Smith.

VIDEO PODCAST
Jesus clearly defined His church in the Book of Mormon: repent, believe in His name, be baptized, receive the Holy Ghost, and endure to the end. The members of the church understood they were taking on them the name of Christ, not joining an "organization"
No talk of a Holy City. No complex organization. No temples. No priesthood hierarchy or offices. No baptism for the dead.
So why did Joseph Smith, just TWO WEEKS after translating the Book of Mormon, start revealing a completely different system and start recording a new book of Doctrine? — claiming God told him to build temples, organize a new priesthood, baptize for the dead, and establish Zion?

This is the second video in a series where we look at one of the major components of the idea that the Church of Jesus Christ was restored in 1830. Although no where in the history of the canon of scripture do we see someone setting themselves up as the all powerful only spokesman to hear from heaven and to give heaven's words to the people, we will see that this is exactly what Joseph Smith did. In today's episode we focus on two common talking points that say Joseph Smith was indeed a prophet and we will look at what the Book of Mormon actually says about this.

In 1830 a most wonderful thing happened. A book of scripture was made available showing us a very plain and straightforward teaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This scripture was translated one time by the gift and power of God. A record of the tribe of Joseph here in the Americas. It speaks throughout of Jesus Christ, our God who would come and take on flesh and blood and die for us. Unfortunately man used this beautiful gift and buried it under a church which has lead people away from this plain doctrine of Christ by adding many things to it and missing the plain message of necessary repentance to receive the atoning blood of Christ. Really the only message that is given through out the Book of Mormon told over inver in many ways. We were told the "Church" was restored in 1830. Unfortunately that "church" has caused many to stumble. We are looking at this claim of restoration to discuss "is this true?" Was the church restored? Or was it something else much worse, the work of men and not God?

Jesus stated the greatest commandment was to love God with all your heart, mind, strength.....with absolutely everything you have. How do we do this and what does it look like? What are the results, and what can a person accomplish who is fulfilling this number one great commandment? Has this been the message of the "church"? If not, why would the church ignore the focus of what our Savior stated as the Greatest Commandment? What is the power unleashed when followers of Christ truly organize their lives around fulfilling this great commandment....to Love God with all of our Hearts? When a heart changes to make this it's number one desire....it's everything!!
