Questions God Asks - Week 3
2026/09/20
In “What Do You Want Me to Do?”, we explore the powerful encounter between Jesus and two blind men in Matthew 20:29–34. Although they couldn’t see Jesus, they heard He was passing by and recognized that this was their moment. When the crowd tried to silence them, they cried out even louder—and Jesus stopped. If disappointment after disappointment or delay after delay has left you discouraged, this message will challenge you not to give up, lose faith, or stop showing up. Position yourself where Jesus is moving, persist when others try to silence you, and be honest about what you need—because one encounter with Jesus can change everything.

In “Blessed, But Bitter,” we explore God’s challenging question to Jonah: *“Is it right for you to be angry about the plant?”* (Jonah 4:9). Like Jonah, we often celebrate when God provides but become frustrated when the blessing disappears, forgetting who provided it in the first place. This sermon from Jonah 4:6–10 challenges us to examine whether we are pursuing God’s blessings more than God’s presence. Miracles and blessings should be celebrated, but they should never become our primary pursuit. Whether God performs the miracle we desire or chooses a different path, He is still good, faithful, and worthy of our worship.

Have you ever been so focused on what you didn’t have that you overlooked what was already in your hand? We tell ourselves we would step out if we had more confidence, more ability, more resources, or fewer problems. It’s easy to mistake feeling unprepared for actually being unequipped. Moses felt that tension too. When God called him, Moses immediately focused on everything that could go wrong—but God redirected his attention to something ordinary he had been carrying all along. Because often, the question isn’t whether God has given us something to use; it’s whether we recognize its value and are willing to trust Him with it. Today, God’s question to Moses becomes His question to us: “What is that in your hand?” Because whatever God has allowed you to carry is far too important to waste.

Life and faith are a race—and every race comes with obstacles, setbacks, and moments when quitting feels completely justified. We all face different hindrances, but they often have the same goal: to wear us down until we stop moving forward. In Hebrews 12:1–3, we’re reminded that having a reason to quit doesn’t mean we have to quit. When we’re tired, discouraged, or struggling to see how we can keep going, Jesus gives us the perfect example of endurance. In “Too Far to Quit,” we’ll discover how to lay aside what’s weighing us down, fix our eyes on Jesus, and find the strength to keep running the race God has placed before us. You may be weary, but your race isn’t over. You’ve come too far to quit now.

Have you ever wondered why storms seem to show up right after some of your greatest spiritual moments? In Mark 4:35–41, the disciples go from spending an incredible day learning from Jesus to fighting for their lives in the middle of a violent storm. Even with Jesus in the boat, fear overwhelms them. It's a reminder that faith doesn't make us immune to life's storms, and God's presence doesn't always mean the waves will immediately stop. When the places we thought were safe begin taking on water, when hope feels distant, and when worry seems louder than faith, it's easy to wonder if God sees us at all. But Jesus' silence isn't indifference—it's confidence. He knows what the disciples couldn't yet see: one storm doesn't define the story. In this message, "The Storm Isn't the Story," discover how Jesus brings peace in the middle of chaos, why you can trust Him even when life doesn't look the way you expected, and how God can use your hardest seasons to reveal His power and strengthen your faith. The storm may be real, but it doesn't get the final word.

Waiting on God can be one of the hardest parts of following Him. In Genesis 16:1–10, Abram and Sarai receive a promise from God, but when the fulfillment doesn't come as quickly as they expect, they take matters into their own hands—creating pain, conflict, and consequences they never imagined. Yet even in the middle of their self-made mess, God shows up with grace, purpose, and a plan that was never derailed. This message reminds us that while our impatience can complicate the journey, it cannot cancel God's faithfulness. If you've ever wondered whether you've made too many mistakes, gotten ahead of God, or taken a detour that feels impossible to recover from, this sermon will encourage you with the truth that God is still at work. He doesn't waste our failures—He weaves them into His greater story. When God is writing the story, even the chapters we wish we could erase can ultimately declare: It's All Good.

Have you ever felt like you just don't have enough strength to keep going? Romans 8 reminds us that your weakness is not the end of your story. Through Jesus Christ, you have access to a power that doesn't come from your own ability. You may feel weak, but Christ has made His strength available to you. You may have been counted out by others, but God has counted you in. You may feel broken by life's circumstances, but Jesus is making you whole. The promises found in Christ almost seem too good to be true—and that's because they reveal just how good God really is. His grace is greater than our failures, His power is stronger than our struggles, and His love is deeper than we can fully comprehend. No matter what you're facing or what your past says about you, God's Word declares that you are more powerful than you think. Discover how to live with "The Strength That Stays" and why, through Christ, you are more than a conqueror.

Life has a way of wearing us down. Bills pile up, relationships get strained, prayers seem unanswered, and it's easy to wonder, "How do I keep going?" In Hebrews 10:32–36, we're reminded that God doesn't simply tell us to persevere—He shows us how. The key isn't finding more strength within ourselves; it's remembering God's faithfulness through every season we've already survived. If you're feeling tired, discouraged, or tempted to give up, this message will encourage you to look back so you can keep moving forward. After all, whatever you're facing today... this isn't the first time God has brought you through.

When everything about Abraham's situation screamed "impossible," God's promise never changed. Romans 4:18–21 shows us that Abraham didn't ignore the facts—he faced them head-on. His body was "as good as dead," Sarah's womb was barren, and every natural circumstance said the promise would never happen. Yet instead of living in denial or allowing the facts to define his future, Abraham grew stronger in faith by trusting the God who keeps His Word. In this final message of our Summer Wave series, "The Odds Don't Matter," discover how to acknowledge reality without surrendering to it, why faith isn't pretending your problems don't exist, and how God can do His greatest work in the places where you feel the weakest. If you're facing impossible odds, this message will encourage you to trust the One for whom nothing is impossible.

In Luke 22:49–51, one of the most unexpected moments in Scripture unfolds as Jesus is betrayed in the Garden of Gethsemane. As soldiers arrive to arrest Him, Peter reacts the way many of us would—drawing his sword and striking one of the men, cutting off his ear. Determined to defend Jesus, Peter believed the battle would be won through force. But Jesus stopped him, picked up the severed ear, healed the very man who came to arrest Him, and revealed a completely different way to respond. While Peter answered betrayal with an attack, Jesus answered it with forgiveness. This message explores the power of pressing pause before we react, showing how God's greatest victories often come not through retaliation, but through grace, mercy, and obedience. If you've ever struggled with anger, offense, or the urge to fight back, this sermon will challenge you to respond the way Jesus did.

Success can be one of the biggest tests of our faith. In Daniel 5:18-22, Daniel reminds King Belshazzar that he watched God humble his father, Nebuchadnezzar, yet failed to learn from the lesson. It's easy to trust God when we have nothing, but what happens when life is going well? This message, "Don't Forget," explores how pride can quietly replace dependence on God and how the enemy often shifts our focus from God's faithfulness to our own accomplishments. If you've ever been tempted to rely on your own strength, this message is a reminder to stay humble, remember where your blessings came from, and keep trusting the God who brought you this far.

Have you ever felt overlooked, unqualified, or like God could use someone else—but not you? In Joshua 1:5-9, God repeatedly tells Joshua, "Be strong and courageous," not because Joshua was fearless, but because he needed to know that the same God who worked through Moses would also work through him. The same is true for us. Too many people believe the lie that they're unseen, unimportant, or unneeded, but God's promises aren't just for the people we admire—they're for us too. In this message, "What To Do When You Feel Unseen," discover how God's presence silences insecurity and gives ordinary people the courage to step into an extraordinary calling. Your past doesn't disqualify you, your fears don't define you, and if God is with you, you're never unseen.

Have you ever stopped too soon? In one of the final moments of his life, the prophet Elisha instructed King Jehoash to strike the ground, and although the king obeyed, he only struck three times. Elisha's frustration wasn't because the king failed to act—it was because he stopped before the victory was complete. In that culture, the number of strikes represented the number of victories over the enemy, and while three victories were significant, complete victory would have required five or six. How often do we do the same thing in our faith? We pray, believe, serve, and trust God for a season, but quit before the breakthrough comes. In this message, we'll discover why partial obedience can lead to partial victory and why God may be calling you to keep praying, keep trusting, keep believing, and strike the ground one more time.
