Malice: An Anthology of True Crime... We're Baaaackkkkk...
2025/12/18
https://a.co/d/iAr6HRK Dive into the darkness with this gripping true crime anthology from the host of Malice: A True Crime Podcast. This powerful collection delves into the motives, psychological processes, and overwhelming consequences that shape the world’s most heinous offenders. About the Book - A compelling, ethically crafted examination of criminal minds, from motive and opportunity to psychopathy, trauma, and twist-driven psychology. - Each essay and case study blends investigative journalism, expert analysis, and firsthand testimony to illuminate how seemingly ordinary people can commit extraordinary acts of violence. - Rich, narrative-driven storytelling combines the rigor of criminology with the tension and humanity of true crime, offering readers a nuanced understanding rather than sensationalism. What You’ll Explore - The complex motives behind serial, opportunistic, and mass offenders - Psychological frameworks: psychopathy, antisocial personality disorder, trauma, and cognitive distortions - The impact on victims, families, investigators, and communities - Forensic science, investigative techniques, and the evolution of criminal profiling - Ethical considerations in true crime storytelling and journalism - Red flags, warning signs, and the imperfect art of prevention Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/malice-a-true-crime-podcast--4344564/support.

THE BURDEN
2024/04/22
In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers (who all say they are innocent!) turned jailhouse-lawyers. In prison they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away. They set out to turn the tables on Scarcella while still in prison. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they would succeed. Thirty years later, more than 20 people Scarcella helped put away have walked free. In the media he’s the “disgraced detective,” the rogue cop who hoodwinked an entire system.  For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast ... where justice is done (and undone).
