How to Become More Self-Sufficient & Grow Your Own Food
2026/10/02
How do you become more self-sufficient and start growing your own food? That's what I'm getting into on this week's solo episode. I'm talking through five simple vegetables that you can grow at home — rocket, perpetual spinach, onions, mizuna and kale. Then we're getting into herbs like basil, rosemary and thyme, what's in season now, growing tomatoes and apples, fruit trees, containers, balconies and how you can start producing more of your own food even if you don't have a huge garden. I'm also talking about no-dig growing and how you can use cardboard, manure or seaweed and let the worms do the work for you. Bish bash bosh! If you want chemical-free and organic foods right outside your back door, there are simple ways to get started. I'll also touch on garlic, allicin, soil, mycelium, planting fruit trees and why growing your own food is about much more than just putting something in the ground. It's about getting more fruits, vegetables and greens onto your plate and becoming a little bit more self-sufficient along the way. And if you're interested in coming along to one of my Grow Your Own courses, send me a DM with the word GROW and I'll send you the next available one. Stay tuned, stay classy and keep it organic.
From the Gards to Yoga, Wellness & Dara Mats with Laura Martin
2026/09/24
This week I’m joined by Laura Martin, founder of Dara Mats — an Irish business creating eco-friendly yoga mats inspired by nature, Irish landscapes, heritage and culture. Laura spent most of her adult life as a Garda before discovering yoga during a career break. That experience helped her realise that there was another path for her. We chat about her journey from frontline emergency response to yoga, holistic therapy, retreats and building Dara Mats. Laura also tells me why it took four years to develop the mats, why she chose natural tree rubber, why making them machine washable was so important, and how the designs are inspired by Ireland. We get into Irish heritage, oak trees, nature, yoga, self-care, retreats, protecting your peace and energy, and the importance of finding those little moments throughout a busy day. Laura shares a brilliant approach to wellbeing — instead of trying to find fifteen minutes, find fifteen one-minute moments. Take three breaths. Slow down. Close the laptop and mentally close the workday. Be more mindful when you eat. And remember to be kind to yourself. A brilliant conversation with a woman who has taken a very different path while keeping the same intention — being in service and helping people. Stay tuned, stay classy, keep it organic and get on that good stuff.
Strawberries to Cream Recap | 600KM, Organic Farms, Real Food & Good Craic
2026/09/17
This week I’m giving you a full recap of the wonderful, magical Strawberries to Cream event. Over eighteen cyclists. Around 600 kilometres. Organic and regenerative farms. Real Irish food. Beautiful countryside. And plenty of good crack along the way. We started in Waterford and headed west, visiting some incredible farms and food producers along the way before finishing up around Limerick and celebrating at Urban Co-op. We visited West Waterford Wagyu, Ballymaloe Cookery School, Macroom Buffalo, Muckross House, Kate’s farm in Kerry and Master Chefs, tasting amazing food and learning from the people actually producing it. For me, this event is about much more than cycling. It’s about connecting people with farmers, seeing where their food comes from, tasting real food and learning how these farms operate. It’s farm to fork. It’s education. It’s entertainment. And it’s getting people out into the countryside and surrounding themselves with people who are looking for better health through real foods. We had some incredible food throughout the week — organic free-range eggs, raw milk, buffalo cheese, buffalo beef burgers, sourdough, salads, pork, chicken and even strawberry ice cream with raw milk. It was an unbelievable week and I’m super grateful to everyone who got involved. Would I do it all again? Definitely. But after 600 kilometres, I might give the bike saddle a little break first! Enjoy the recap. Stay tuned. Stay classy. Keep it organic. Get on that good stuff.
The Truth About Fasting, Water Fasting & Autophagy with Loren Lockman
2026/09/10
This week on the Colman Power Organic Fitness Podcast, I’m joined by Loren Lockman all the way from the USA for a fascinating conversation about fasting, water fasting, autophagy, nutrition and the body's ability to heal. Loren has spent decades working with fasting and has worked with more than 16,000 clients from 156 countries. We get into what actually happens when you stop eating, what autophagy is, why Loren believes it really starts to become significant beyond the 16–18 hour mark, how the body moves from glucose to glycogen and then towards fat and ketones, and why he believes longer fasting can create some remarkable results. We also talk about breaking a fast, whole foods versus juices, protein, fruit, coconut water, our evolutionary history and why Loren believes humans are tropical animals regardless of where we live. It’s a fascinating and definitely thought-provoking conversation, with some views that I know will challenge the conventional way of thinking about health and nutrition. Loren also shares some incredible stories from his clients and explains why he believes fasting is incredibly powerful — but also why it has to be done properly. A unique one this week. Enjoy!
Conscious Parenting | Why Our Childhood Impacts How We Parent with Gillian Schaill
2026/09/03
This week I’m joined by my very good friend Gillian Skahill, a conscious parenting coach based in Galway. We have a fascinating conversation about what happens when our children trigger us, how our own childhood can influence the way we parent, emotional regulation, connection and understanding children's behaviour. Gillian explains why behaviour is communication, why children need to feel safe, soothed and seen, and why repair is such an important part of parenting when things don't go right. We also chat about technology, getting children outside, family life, managing multiple children, our inner child and why there is no such thing as perfect parenting. The big takeaway? Have compassion for yourself. We're all learning. We're all going to get things wrong. But we can pause, reconnect, repair and keep moving forward. A brilliant conversation with Gillian. How We Get Kids Eating Better Food | School Lunch, Organic Farms & Real Nutrition with Andrew Scott Johnson
2026/08/27
This week I’m joined by Andrew Scott Johnson, Nourishment Programme Director at a private school in Laguna Beach, California, and a chef instructor with School of Lunch. Andrew is doing some seriously exciting work connecting children with real food, organic farms and the soil. We chat about scratch-made school lunches, organic vegetables, fermented foods, sourdough, animal protein, bone broth, local farms, sustainability and how Andrew is using food production as part of the children's education. We also get into Farm Fridays, taking children onto the farm, growing food specifically for the school and why pulling a carrot directly from the soil can completely change a child's understanding of where food comes from. Andrew also shares his approach to making healthier changes without trying to do everything at once. Make one thing better the next day and keep moving forward. That's a message I absolutely love. Stay classy.Keep it organic.Get on that good stuff.
Make Sure You’re Enjoying Life | My Health, Fitness & Organic Living Journey with Karen O’Sullivan
2026/08/21
I was delighted to join my good friend Karen O’Sullivan on her Ordinary Extraordinary podcast for a proper catch-up and a chat about health, fitness, organic food, mental health, adventures and enjoying life. We go back around ten years, so we get into plenty — from how I ended up studying horticulture and working with farmers, to becoming a personal trainer, developing Organic Fitness and creating the events and adventures I’m involved in today. I share some of the things I do for my own health and wellbeing, including journaling, walking, weight training, grounding and getting enough sleep, as well as why I believe physical, mental and gut health are all connected. We also chat about the Camino, Strawberries & Cream, sea swims, positive people, getting outside your comfort zone and why: You won't know unless you go. But the biggest message for me is simple: Make sure you're actually enjoying life instead of just going through the motions. Have a laugh. Get outside. Do something challenging. Surround yourself with good people. And enjoy the journey. Stay classy.Keep it organic.Get on that good stuff.
Organic Cotton, Sustainable Clothing & Rising With Expectation | Ryan Doolin
2026/08/13
In this episode of the Colman Power Organic Fitness Podcast, I’m joined by Ryan Doolin from Dulainn Apparel to chat about something I’ve been putting a lot more thought into myself — the clothing we wear and what actually goes into making it. Ryan shares the story behind Dulainn Apparel, why he chose organic cotton, where the name came from, and how his own journey through travel, nature, personal development, family and fatherhood led him to create a purpose-driven clothing brand. We get into: 🌱 Why Ryan chose organic cotton👕 The difference between organic cotton and synthetic/polyester materials🌍 Fast fashion, farming and sustainability💧 Water, soil and the importance of organic farming🧴 What sits against our skin every day👶 Why Ryan paid particular attention to comfort for his children🏔️ Nature-inspired colours, designs and the outdoors🔥 The meaning behind “Rise With Expectation”☀️ The story behind the Dulainn Apparel logo🗺️ The meaning behind designs like Pathfinder, Dawn Breaker and Summit Reflection👕 Why some people want back designs and others prefer something more minimal🤝 Building a community around the brand💭 Why you can't please everybody in business📈 Ryan's plans for new colours, designs and hoodies I’m actually wearing one of Ryan’s T-shirts during the podcast, and we get into why the feel of the organic cotton really stood out to me. For me, this conversation comes back to something simple: If we're thinking about what we eat, why wouldn't we also think about what we're wearing? Ryan is building something with meaning behind it, and I loved hearing the story behind the brand. You can find out more about Dulainn Apparel at www.dulainnapparel.com and on Instagram at @dulainnapparel Stay tuned.Stay classy.Keep it organic.Get on that good stuff.
