425.The Problem Behind the Problem with Deborah Johnson
2026/10/13
Have you ever worked hard to fix something, only to discover you were solving the wrong problem? It happens more often than we realize. We respond to what we can see—the slipping productivity, the strained relationship, the exhaustion, the extra weight, the cluttered schedule—and assume that's the problem. So we work harder, reorganize, start another plan, or promise ourselves we'll do better. But especially in the second half of life, we've become remarkably good at compensating and pushing through, even when something deeper isn't working. Sometimes the visible problem is simply the alarm; the real issue is underneath. On this episode of the Power of After Show, we're going to explore what I call The Problem Behind the Problem—and why it's important to ask the right questions. 424.False the Confidence-The Success Trap with Deborah Johnson
2026/10/06
We tend to recognize confidence when we see it—or at least we think we do. It shows up as certainty, accomplishment, influence, and the ability to walk into a room as though you belong there. Today, social media makes that image even easier to create. We see polished careers, successful businesses, impressive platforms, and lives that appear remarkably put together. But confidence and the appearance of confidence are two very different things. Beneath an impressive résumé or carefully managed image can be insecurity, self-doubt, and a nagging fear of being exposed. And that reveals one of success's most overlooked traps: the more accomplished we become, the easier it can be to build our confidence around what we've achieved rather than the truth of who we are. The courage to be real and approach what is true results in confidence that is real. 423.Moving Forward with Life's Curveballs with Jack Gindi
2026/09/29
Our guest today understands that life's greatest lessons often come through its unexpected curveballs. Jack Gindi—a father of four sons and grandfather of six—has walked through seasons of success, disappointment, and deep personal loss. Along the way, he's learned that one of the greatest gifts we can give our children isn't a life free of challenges, but the mindset and skills to meet those challenges with resilience and purpose. His own journey has been shaped by decades of mentorship, a 50-year marriage, and the wisdom of people who invested in his life. Today, Jack is living his own "Power of After," dedicating this season to creating a comprehensive personal growth system that equips children around the world for life. It's an inspiring example of how our next chapter can become our most meaningful one. 422.The Restoration Principle-How to Rebuild with Deborah Johnson
2026/09/22
Some places leave an unexpected mark on our lives. For me, one of those places was a magnificent garden on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. This is where an unexpected story of restoration captured my imagination. Life has its own ways of leaving us with barren places—a relationship changes, a business struggles, a health issue interrupts our plans, or a season simply ends before we're ready. And we're left asking, What do I do with what remains? That's where The Restoration Principle begins. Restoration isn't about returning life to exactly what it was; it's about taking what remains and rebuilding it into something strong, purposeful, and even beautiful again. It's an important principle I explore in my upcoming book, MOVE BEYOND: From Brokenness to Purpose, released later this year. This topic is so very relevant for anyone who is facing change or deciding "what's next" as parts of our lives do transform as we rebuild and repurpose. 421.The Hidden Cost of Untapped Potential with Deborah Johnson
2026/09/15
What happens when our potential has nowhere to go? Years ago, an abandoned structure on our property became what I called the "well to nowhere"—built with time, effort, and resources, yet producing nothing of value. It became a powerful picture of what can happen to us when years of experience, strengths, and hard-earned wisdom remain buried beneath the surface. We may look successful and stay busy, yet still wonder, Is this really all there is? In this episode, we'll explore the hidden cost of untapped potential and how to redirect what is already within us toward something that matters. It's also a theme woven throughout my new book, MOVE BEYOND: From Brokenness to Purpose, coming late this fall—a message about recognizing what has been buried or broken, rebuilding from it, and discovering that restoration can lead not merely to recovery, but to renewed strength, beauty, and purpose. 420.Reinventing Fashion and the Middle-Aged Jean with Diane Gilman
2026/09/08
What happens when you stop trying to fit into someone else's category and create an entirely new one? On this episode of the Power of After Show, we're joined by Diane Gilman, the legendary "Queen of Jeans," who built a global fashion empire by recognizing an overlooked audience: middle-aged women who wanted style, comfort, and confidence without compromise. Diane's story is about far more than denim—it's a masterclass in reinvention, entrepreneurship, and identifying opportunities that others miss. We'll explore how she created a new category in the marketplace, the mindset shifts that fueled her success, and why the halftime of life may be the perfect time to leverage your experience, wisdom, and insight to build something meaningful. If you've ever wondered whether your best ideas are still ahead of you, this conversation will inspire you to think bigger about what's possible in your next chapter. 419.Why Smart People Stay Stuck with Deborah Johnson
2026/09/01
Have you ever reached the end of a busy day and wondered, "Why am I working so hard but not making the progress I hoped for?" The answer isn't usually a lack of intelligence, motivation, or opportunity. More often, it's the invisible patterns of thinking that quietly shape our choices every single day. In this episode, we'll uncover some of those hidden influences and discover how a blind spot monitor, invisible ink, and even a roller coaster can teach us why smart people get stuck—and more importantly, how to move beyond it. 418.The Summit Book Chapter by Chapter
2026/08/25
Have you ever wished you could step into the pages of a story and experience the journey one day at a time? In this special episode of the Power of After Show, that's exactly what we're going to do. Rather than interviewing a guest or bringing a new message, I'll be taking you on a chapter-by-chapter journey through my allegorical novel, The Summit. Designed as a story within a story, it follows a young woman named Mallory as she leaves the familiar behind, faces unexpected challenges, and gradually discovers the courage, confidence, and purpose she never realized she possessed. While written as an engaging adventure, its principles speak just as powerfully to anyone asking, "What's next?" in their own life. Over the next few minutes, you'll hear a brief introduction to each chapter, allowing you to experience the progression of the story from the first invitation to "Reach the Summit" all the way through the epilogue. Think of this as a guided preview—a chance to become acquainted with the characters, the symbolism, and the life lessons woven throughout the journey. If the story resonates with you, I hope you'll pick up your own copy and immerse yourself in the complete adventure. Whether you're discovering your own path, encouraging a young person to pursue theirs, or simply looking for an inspiring story of hope, courage, and perseverance, I think you'll enjoy the climb. It is a delightful book and even more delightful gift! 417.Hunger Signals and Health with John Poothullil
2026/08/18
What if some of the most common assumptions about hunger, weight gain, and chronic disease are missing a critical piece of the puzzle? On this episode of the Power of After Show, I'm joined by Dr. John Poothullil for a thought-provoking conversation about hunger signals, metabolic health, and the body's natural ability to regulate itself. 416.Developing Life's Rhythm with Deborah Johnson
2026/08/11
As we move into mid-career and the halftime of life, many of the routines that once shaped our days begin to change. The demands of raising a family lessen, careers evolve or completely change, and new opportunities—and responsibilities—emerge. Instead of having every hour spoken for, we suddenly have more choices about how to spend our time. That freedom is a tremendous gift, but it also requires intentionality. If we don't design our lives around what matters most, it's easy to fill our calendars with activity while neglecting our deeper purpose. Today, we'll explore how developing healthy daily, weekly, and monthly rhythms can help you build a lifestyle that reflects your values, supports your goals, and creates a more purposeful and fulfilling next chapter. 415.Overcoming Loss with Music and Purpose with Mike Gomoll
2026/08/04
One of the remarkable things about reaching mid-career—or what I often call the "Power of After" stage of life—is that we have something incredibly valuable to offer: decades of relationships, experience, and the ability to bring people together around a meaningful purpose. Sometimes that purpose grows out of life's greatest joys, and other times it emerges from its deepest heartbreaks. Today's guest, Mike Gomoll, is a powerful example of that. After the devastating loss of his son Joe to epilepsy, Michael and his family transformed their grief into a mission that has touched thousands of lives. Because Joe loved music—even though epilepsy left him non-verbal—they chose music as the vehicle to create hope, awareness, and funding for epilepsy research. Through that mission, they've inspired legendary artists including Cheap Trick, The Go-Go's, Tears for Fears, The Bangles, Guns N' Roses, and many others to perform in the middle of a Wisconsin winter, raising more than two million dollars since 2011. Today we'll talk about overcoming loss, discovering renewed purpose, and how your greatest challenges can become the foundation for your most meaningful impact. 414.Move Beyond Setbacks with Deborah Johnson
2026/07/28
Life has a way of rewriting our plans. Just when we think we've settled into a comfortable rhythm, something changes—a career takes an unexpected turn, a relationship shifts, our health demands more attention, or financial and family responsibilities reshape the future we imagined. At mid-career, these moments can leave us wondering whether we're moving forward or simply trying to recover. Yet I've become convinced that setbacks aren't meant to keep us stuck. They can become invitations to grow, adapt, and discover strengths we didn't know we possessed. That's the heart behind today's episode and the message I've been developing for my upcoming book, Move Beyond, releasing later this year. Together, let's explore how to move beyond life's inevitable setbacks with greater confidence, purpose, and hope for what's next. 2026/07/21
Feeling like an outsider is far more common than most people admit—and that applies to men just as much as women, even if they don't always say it out loud. Our guest today, Alma Derricks, empowers adventurous leaders and global brands to uncover blind spots and think beyond conventional limits. Having worked with an impressive range of both traditional and creative companies, Alma brings deep insight into what it takes to grow through change.
