Loneliness Epidemic with Keith Spurgin
2026/09/22
How can we heal the loneliness epidemic? Welcome to Flourish-Meant, where we explore practical ways for Christians to thrive in every area of life. In today's episode, host Tina Yeager sits down with Keith Spurgin, founder of New Hope Church and Growth Resourcing Group, to tackle the growing crisis of loneliness in our modern world. Even as technology promises more connection, many of us feel more isolated and unknown than ever before—impacting our mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. Join us as Keith Spurgin shares surprising insights into the deep effects of loneliness—including health risks, relationship breakdowns, and the deceptive nature of "pseudo-community." Together, we'll explore why authentic connection is so essential, practical steps to rebuild trust and vulnerability, and how simple, real conversations—both at home and in church—can break the cycle of isolation. Whether you're a parent, leader, or seeking healthier relationships in your daily life, this episode offers hope, encouragement, and actionable advice to help you move from surviving to truly flourishing in community. Key Episode Insights Connected but Disconnected: Keith Spurgeon highlights how social media and technology can create a false sense of community, leaving many of us feeling unknown—even in a crowd. True connection requires more than likes and followers; it means being seen, heard, and loved at a soul-deep level. Risk & Vulnerability: Genuine relationships demand risk. Keith Spurgeon powerfully states, "There is no passion without risk." By daring to share honestly with others, we open the door to relationships rooted in trust and understanding. Breaking the Cycle of Brokenness: Many of us fall into a "relationship pain cycle," protecting ourselves from hurt but ultimately deepening our isolation. Keith Spurgeon encourages letting down our walls, accepting that some pain is inevitable but real connection is worth it. Parenting for Connection: Equip your children to navigate a disconnected world. Have open conversations, model healthy conflict resolution, and communicate unconditional love to foster security and relational skills in your kids. Practical Steps Take Relational Risks: Start with small acts of vulnerability. Share honestly with a trusted friend or group and invite them to do the same. Relearn Conversation Skills: Prioritize meaningful, face-to-face interactions. Practice listening, asking questions, and engaging even in disagreement. Prioritize Church & Community: Find or create spaces—a church group, book club, cycling club, or ministry—where consistent, real-life connections can flourish. Model Conflict Resolution: Parents, let your children see healthy disagreements and reconciliations. This models maturity and emotional safety. Strength to Go On with Grace Fox
2026/09/15
Are you feeling weary and struggling to find the strength to go on? In today's episode of Flourish-Meant, Tina Yeager welcomes back award-winning author and missionary Grace Fox for an inspiring and practical conversation about pressing on through life's toughest challenges. Drawing from her Names of God devotional series, Grace Fox unpacks how understanding God's character can anchor us in hope—even when circumstances threaten to overwhelm. Together, they'll share actionable steps to seek support, choose healthy relationships, and turn to timeless truths that empower you to move from surviving to thriving. Whether you're navigating crisis, longing for purpose, or simply seeking encouragement, this episode offers biblical wisdom and heartfelt reassurance that you're not alone—and that true strength is found through faith, community, and the God who sees and sustains us. Encouragement for the Weary If you're feeling weary or weighed down, you're not alone. Grace Fox emphasized that so many of us are "getting tired from the inside out." Her reassurance: Don't give up hope. God invites us to cast our burdens on Him, reminding us that "we are not strong enough to carry the weight of the load that's on us...but He invites us to share that."   When You Need Help Sometimes, our first attempt to reach out for support can leave us feeling hurt or alone. Grace Fox encourages you: "Don't go back [to an unsafe person], but really ask God to provide that person in that space where you do feel safe and heard. We all need that place where we feel heard and seen." And as Tina Yeager reminds us: "Don't give up. Keep looking for that person that God is providing for you...It sometimes requires a little agency on our part."   Practical Anchor Points in Crisis You may not always have time for long devotions in crisis, but you can cling to God's truth. Meditate on these names of God, for example: Yahweh Ropheka (The God Who Heals): "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted...hang on to that truth. We are not alone." Yahweh Rohi (The Lord is My Shepherd): In your desperation, remember that the Shepherd holds you close to His heart.    She also revealed how praise can shift your perspective. Use the acronym "PRAISE" to refocus on the character of God: P – Prince of Peace R – Rock (Yahweh Tzuri) A – Adonai (Supreme Master) I – Immanuel (God with us) S – Shepherd E – El Roi (God Who Sees Me) Truth to Replace Lies "Our thoughts in the middle of those hard places of life must be rooted in truth," Grace Fox insists. It's not about minimizing your pain—it's about holding on to God's unchanging character, so discouragement doesn't steal your hope.   Get Connected & Dive Deeper Get more encouragement from Grace Fox, including her "Names of God" devotional. Grandparenting to Help Kids Thrive with Lori Wildenberg
2026/09/08
How can grandparenting, partnering with parenting, help kids to thrive? Episode Introduction Welcome to Flourish-Meant, where we explore practical strategies for living your best life as a follower of Christ. In this episode, host Tina Yeager is joined by award-winning author and parenting coach Lori Wildenberg, who shares her insights on the powerful, intentional role of Christian grandparenting. Together, they discuss how grandparents and parents can partner to help children truly thrive—navigating challenges like shifting family roles, setting healthy boundaries, and opening clear communication. Discover how to overcome messy expectations, support your adult children, and become a wise, prayerful influence in your grandchildren's lives. Whether you're an active grandparent or facing obstacles in your family dynamic, you'll find inspiration and practical tips to help your family flourish. Key Takeaways: 1. Embracing the Shift in Roles Grandparenting isn't always what we envisioned. As Lori Wildenberg explains, learning to "slide to the side" means respecting that parents call the shots—and adjusting our expectations with humility and support. 2. Communication is Crucial Open, honest conversations about roles and boundaries make all the difference. Approach your adult children with curiosity and flexibility: "What is your vision for our role as grandparents?" Start with their needs and hopes. 3. Respect Boundaries—Big and Small Whether it's routines, food allergies, sleep schedules, or social media posts, honoring parental boundaries shows love and respect. Always ask before making suggestions or sharing online. 4. Encourage and Empower Remind your grown kids they're doing a great job. Give wisdom gently, only when asked, and lead with encouragement. This lays the foundation for lasting trust and influence. 5. Build Faith Organically Faith can be woven into everyday moments—nature walks, answered prayers, and small, God-centered conversations with grandkids. These organic faith exchanges make a deep impact. 6. The Power of Prayer No matter your level of involvement, prayer is your strongest tool as a grandparent. Pray for your grandkids' character, faith, relationships, and for harmony in your family. Bold Not Belligerent with Peter Demos
2026/08/25
Do you know how to share the truth in a way that's bold but not belligerent?  Host Tina Yeager sits down with Christian business leader and author Peter Demos at the National Religious Broadcasters Convention in Nashville to discuss how to be "bold, not belligerent" when sharing your beliefs. Discover insights on standing for truth without being overbearing, the power of forgiveness, how self-protection and entitlement can get in the way of our faith, and the difference between cultural and biblical love. Peter Demos shares wisdom from his personal journey, equipping you with tools and encouragement to speak truth with love, shift your mindset and heartset, and trust God more deeply as you fulfill your purpose. Stay tuned for inspiration that will empower you to move from surviving to thriving in all areas of life. Highlights from the Conversation 1. Prepare Your Heart First According to Peter Demos, true boldness begins with spiritual disciplines like forgiveness, repentance, and prayer. Before you stand for the truth, check your own heart for unresolved anger or unforgiveness that may distort your message. 2. Approach with Redeeming Love Love isn't always "sweet and flowery." Real love means wanting the ultimate best for others. Speak truth motivated by a desire to help—not to shame or "win" an argument. 3. Distinguish Meekness from Weakness Meekness is strength under control. Peter Demos reminds us that we don't have to contribute to the cultural noise or respond with anger. Instead, we should act with wisdom and grace—even when we must correct a fellow believer. 4. Trust That It's Not About "Winning" We're not single-handedly responsible for changing hearts; we're called to add "water to the bucket" by planting seeds in each conversation. Trust God with the results. 5. Check Your Motives Ask yourself: Am I motivated by love or by self-protection, fear, or insecurity? Peter Demos urges us to ground our identity in Christ, not in our roles, accomplishments, or safety nets. Stay Connected For practical encouragement and wisdom, subscribe to Peter Demos's podcast and follow his work at peterdemos.org. From Brokenness to Identity and Purpose with Sandra Glahn
2026/08/18
How do we overcome personal brokenness? Acclaimed author, professor, and theologian Sandra Glahn draws from her own ten-year journey through infertility, loss, and identity crisis, and invites us to reconsider our understanding of pain, faith, and the roles we play as women in the church and society. Together, we delve into the challenging questions that rise in times of crisis—grappling with mystery, the search for meaning, and discovering how trust and community can pave the way from surviving to thriving. Whether you're wrestling with loss, struggling with your identity, or simply seeking encouragement, this episode offers compassionate wisdom, spiritual insights, and practical resources for hope on the journey toward healing. Key Takeaways: The mystery of suffering: Sometimes there's comfort in embracing mystery instead of striving for answers. Sandra Glahn reminds us to shift from asking "Why is this happening?" to "Is God good? Will I trust Him?" Thriving beyond expectations: We are not defined by roles or circumstances, but by our character—embodying love, joy, and faithfulness even when life looks different than planned.  Healthy community and support: It's okay to seek new, non-triggering relationships during times of loss, and genuine comfort often means simply being present and weeping with those who weep. We all need a safe network—not just advice. Resources to Help You Flourish Visit Sandra Glahn for blog posts, articles, and guides on infertility, loss, and women in Scripture. God Honors Craftsmen with Dave Hataj
2026/08/11
How can we build a meaningful life no matter what your gifts or trades might be?  In today's episode, Tina Yeager is joined by Dave Hataj—author, skilled labor advocate, and founder of Craftsmen with Character—to discuss the often-overlooked value of blue-collar work and craftsmanship. Together, they unpack barriers that keep generations from recognizing their God-given dignity, purpose, and potential, especially in trades and manufacturing fields. From Dave Hataj's personal journey through addiction and preconceived limitations to his calling as a champion for craftsmen, this conversation reveals how every gift and vocation—including working with your hands—has a unique place in God's kingdom. Discover how to embrace your work as worship, why character matters beyond skill, and how true fulfillment comes from seeing yourself and your labor through God's eyes. This is an episode for anyone searching for meaning in everyday life and longing to move from merely surviving to truly thriving—no matter your trade or calling. Key Takeaways: All Work Has God-Given Value: Whether you're in manufacturing, tech, teaching, or any other field, your unique skills matter and contribute to the world's flourishing. As Dave Hataj shared, "God himself is a worker. He's the creator. And so, as his kids, we are co-creators meant to join him in that work." Your Work Is Worship: Partnering with God in your daily tasks transforms routine jobs into sacred opportunities. Dave Hataj prays each morning to see his business—and his team—through God's eyes, making his machine shop not just a workplace, but a place of worship. Building Character Transforms Lives: Developing character isn't just about discipline; it's about embodying excellence, goodness, and dignity. Dave Hataj's Craftsman Code helps people of all ages discover their purpose, self-worth, and a sense of calling, especially for those who may have been overlooked. 🔗 For Dave Hataj's book, The Craftsman's Code, or more inspiration on meaningful work (and practical resources for yourself or someone you care about), visit craftsmenwithcharacter.org or davehataj.com We're thrilled to accompany you on this journey of faith, growth, and transformation. UFOs and God with Directors Wes and Amanda Llewellyn
2026/08/04
Are you prepared to learn the truth about UFOs and God? In today's episode, host Tina Yeager sits down with award-winning filmmakers Wes Llewellyn and Amanda Llewellyn to delve into their compelling new documentary, "UFOs and God." Together, they challenge prevalent cultural myths about UFOs and so-called non-human intelligences, unraveling why such beliefs can be spiritually dangerous. Drawing on science, scripture, and personal experience, our guests reveal the surprising truth behind spiritual deceptions—and why it's crucial for Christians to discern fact from fiction. Tune in for eye-opening insights on how to stay grounded in faith and truth while being compassionate to those searching for answers in a world full of conflicting messages. Many in our culture—and even in the church—are fascinated by UFOs, aliens, and the possibility of life beyond earth. But what's really happening when people encounter these phenomena? Wes Llewellyn explains: "They are real, but the question is, what are they?" He points out the astronomical improbabilities of extraterrestrial life and reveals a different dimension—literally—behind these encounters. Amanda Llewellyn adds, "Their lives are not improved with having an experience with NHI (non-human intelligence)" and urges us to hold every experience up to the light of God's truth. 🙌 How Can Christians Respond? Discernment: Don't just believe every cultural narrative—measure every experience against the Bible and the nature of Christ. Compassion: Don't dismiss people's experiences. Listen with empathy, then lovingly share the truth. Truth in Love: We're called to be "spiritual snobs" in the sense that we seek the truth—not my truth or your truth. But we do so with compassion and love, never with disdain or legalism. Overcoming Myths: Cultural lies can distract and harm us—whether it's about UFOs or the allure of "personal power." True power and healing come only through Christ, who offers a relationship filled with real discernment, purpose, and hope. 🌟 Take Action Today Watch the new film UFOs and God for eye-opening interviews and a biblical take on the supernatural (visit UFOsandGod.com) Connect with Wes Llewellyn and Amanda Llewellyn and explore their faith-filled projects at 4lfilms.com and strucktheseries.com Share this message with friends who are curious or struggling—help them discover truth and hope We're thrilled to accompany you on this journey of faith, growth, and transformation. Blind Faith: Seeing God in Our Darkest Suffering with Chad Roberts
2026/07/28
What could your life look like if you truly had blind faith? What if the greatest challenges in your life were actually invitations to experience deeper joy and purpose? On today's episode of Flourish-Meant, host Tina Yeager sits down with pastor, author, and Bible teacher Chad Roberts, whose life was turned upside down when sudden blindness radically changed his world at age 38. Despite losing his sight, Chad Roberts continues to inspire thousands through his ministry, Awakened to Grace, and his new book, Blind Faith. Join us as Chad Roberts shares his remarkable journey through suffering, tackling the difficult questions we all face—Why does a good God allow pain? How do we cling to hope when life feels impossibly dark? You'll hear powerful, practical insights about choosing joy in hard seasons, discovering purpose in the midst of affliction, and learning to trust a God you cannot see. If you're searching for encouragement and real strategies to move from merely surviving to flourishing—no matter what you're facing—this unforgettable conversation will give you the strength and hope you need to keep moving forward. Spotlight: Chad Roberts on Embracing Suffering with Joy When sudden blindness upended Chad's world, he found himself wrestling with God and all the questions suffering brings. Yet through Scripture and the sustaining grace of God, Chad discovered that: God has great purpose in our afflictions, never wasting our pain. Suffering is not a sign of God's anger or punishment, but an invitation to experience His grace more deeply. Joy is a choice, not a fleeting emotion—we must choose it before we feel it, and let God's Word anchor our mornings. Suffering, when surrendered to God, can polish us rather than grind us down. True hope is both for eternity and for now—sometimes God "makes us lie down in green pastures" so we discover blessings we would have missed otherwise. Practical Tips for Finding Joy in Tough Seasons Start each day by declaring God's truth over your life: "This is the day the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it." Don't wait to feel joy—choose it, trust that God is at work, and let Scripture become your anchor. Shift your focus from what you see (or don't see) to what God promises. Ready for More Inspiration? Most Critical Thing Parents Can Do with Tricia Thornton
2026/07/21
Episode Highlight: Connect Powerfully with Your Kids This Week on Flourish-Meant What is the most critical thing you can do as a parent for your children? This week's episode delved deep into the art and science of authentic connection, featuring insights from counselor, play therapist, and author, Tricia Thornton. Key Takeaways from the Episode The conversation focused on the foundational importance of parents connecting first with God and themselves before reaching out to their children. The analogy of "putting your own oxygen mask on first" rang throughout the discussion, emphasizing self-care as the essential starting point. One concept discussed was the impact of emotional safety. Consistency—not perfection—helps children build resilience and confidence, even in the face of hardship. The brain's sense of safety, ignited by authentic parental connection, is the secret to helping kids navigate life's ups and downs. Practical Tools for Parents A key theme that emerged was authenticity in connection. True presence means being with your children—even in moments of fear, frustration, or exhaustion. It isn't about oversharing your struggles, but about modeling healthy emotional management and self-awareness. The discussion explored age-appropriate sharing: Young children mainly need assurance of safety and presence, not all the details. Older children and teens benefit from proactive, honest communication from parents—being their "anchor" when the world feels uncertain. Sprinkling in Self-Care Several points were raised, including practical self-care strategies: Take even a few minutes to ground yourself—deep breaths, positive affirmations, or using your five senses to return to the present moment. Model coping practices aloud: "Let's use our five senses together." Build in moments of silence, even if just in the car or while doing daily tasks, to reset and reconnect with yourself. Tricia Thornton's Seven Principles for Effective Connection From her new book, Beyond Blessed Parenting, Tricia outlines seven principles: Silence, Listening, Acknowledgement, Renewal, Forgiveness, Balance, and Embrace. Silence and listening are the anchors, but embrace—accepting and celebrating your journey, even its hardships—creates lasting transformation for the whole family. Resource Spotlight Want more? Hebrew Words That Impact Faith with Ed Grifenhagen
2026/07/14

Pastor, author, and filmmaker Ed Grifenhagen, whose unique perspective bridges Jewish tradition and Christian belief, reveals the profound impact of Hebrew words on understanding scripture and God's promises. He uncovers how ancient words like "shalom" and "Elohim" carry deep meaning that can revolutionize your spiritual growth and illuminate the connection between the Old and New Testaments. Whether you're seeking a richer Bible study or hoping to share your faith more authentically, this conversation is packed with insights and practical wisdom to help you flourish in your walk with God. The Power of "Shalom": Find out why "shalom" in Scripture means so much more than "prosperity," and how understanding the depth of these terms can transform your walk with God. Remember: Discover the vital role of remembering God's faithfulness and how writing down His works in your life can change your spiritual journey 08:35. Practical Evangelism: Ed Grifenhagen emphasizes the importance of meeting people where they are, building relationships, and letting the Holy Spirit lead as you share faith—there's no "one size fits all."  Featured Hebrew Word Elohim: The very first name of God in Genesis—plural by form, hinting at the Trinity and the magnificence of God. Ed encourages you to ponder and pray this name as you draw closer to the Lord. Ready to Dig Deeper? How Screens Affect Child Development with Ginny Cruz-esv2-63p-bg-37p-music-100p
2026/07/07
Are screens impacting your child development? Learn how screen time effects influence physical milestones and daily habits for young kids. Host Tina Yeager sits down with pediatric physical therapist and author Ginny Cruz to explore the connection between digital media and early childhood growth. If you are a parent wondering how much device usage is appropriate, this conversation provides a clear perspective on balancing technology with necessary physical movement. We discuss the insights found in Ginny Cruz's book, The New Mom's Guide, to help you navigate modern parenting challenges. You will gain a better understanding of how screen time effects manifest in physical play and social interaction. By applying these professional observations, you can create healthier screen habits for your family without the guilt. Episode Highlights 📊 Startling Research Multiple studies now confirm that excessive screen time alters children's brain development. MRIs have revealed that brains are forming circuitry differently, leading to issues later in life 02:42. Longitudinal studies show children exposed to more than two hours of daily screen time are more likely to report higher anxiety, trouble making decisions, and persistent struggles with executive functioning even into their teens 04:18. 😞 Emotional & Social Effects Many kids now experience increased anxiety, depression, anger, and impulse control issues. Overstimulation from bright, fast-paced content can lead to meltdowns or shutdowns 05:32, 16:36. Real-life connection is irreplaceable: overuse of screens impacts attachment, facial recognition, and social skills—fundamentals for a healthy, well-adjusted child 08:37, 09:29. 📵 Tips & Solutions for Healthier Habits No screens for babies under one year (except video chats with loved ones). For toddlers, limit to about one hour a day, focusing on high-quality, educational programming 11:00. Parents: Your own screen habits matter. Kids notice when your attention is diverted, even nonverbally! Taking inventory of your digital usage can profoundly impact your child's desire and ability to connect 11:59. Replace screens with Montessori-style toys, blocks, pretend play, and books. Fewer, simpler toys encourage imagination, focus, and problem-solving 20:09. Introduce change gradually—cut back screen time in small steps and have alternative activities ready 21:38. Don't underestimate the power of quiet, calm environments. Overstimulation is very real and can make even the calmest child anxious or irritable 16:36. ✨ Final Thought "Everything in moderation." The foundation built in early childhood shapes everything that follows. Small changes can make a world of difference in helping our kids flourish 24:32. 📚 Learn More from Ginny Cruz Ready for more screen-free alternatives, expert tips, and hope-filled encouragement? Forgiveness is a Decision with Carla Shelton
2026/06/23
Did you know forgiveness is a decision? Welcome to Flourish-Meant, where we explore transformative paths to spiritual and emotional growth. In today's episode, we delve into the liberating power of forgiveness with special guest Carla Shelton—speaker, author, and host of the Monday Manna One Minute Inspirational Show on YouTube. Drawing from her own journey of overcoming hurt, resentment, and bitterness in the workplace, Carla shares why forgiveness is not merely a feeling but a decisive choice. Together, we'll uncover common misconceptions about forgiveness, the impact of unresolved pain, the process of letting go, and the importance of establishing healthy boundaries. Whether you're struggling to release past wounds or seeking freedom in your relationships, Carla's wisdom will guide you toward the empowerment and healing found when you choose to forgive. Key Takeaways from Our Conversation with Carla Shelton Forgiveness Is a Decision, Not a Feeling Many believe forgiveness must be felt, but as Carla shares, it's actually a conscious choice—a commandment that brings freedom regardless of your emotions 12:10. Understanding What Forgiveness IS and ISN'T Forgiving does not excuse or condone someone's actions. It is not giving someone a "get out of jail free card"—it's about releasing yourself from bitterness and pain 05:36. Forgiveness Is Layered and May Take Time Healing sometimes requires peeling back emotional layers, especially if you've suffered deep wounds such as ongoing abuse or betrayal 03:19. You Can Forgive Without Reconciliation Forgiveness and reconciliation are separate processes. You can set healthy boundaries while still releasing forgiveness, even if the other person isn't sorry or doesn't change 13:47. Taking Action: Carla's Practical Steps Carla recommends journaling your feelings, expressing them in prayer, and releasing negative emotions to God. Sometimes, as in her own journey, forgiveness also means blessing those who hurt you 09:00, 21:02. Inspirational Scripture "A person's wisdom makes them patient. They will be honored if they forgive someone who sins against them." — Proverbs 19:11  Connect with Carla Shelton Book: Forgiveness is a Decision (Available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Trilogy, and more) Website: carlashelton.com YouTube: Monday Manna Inspiration (one-minute spiritual encouragements weekly) Reflect & Flourish Are you holding on to any bitterness or resentment?
