Description

In short, Memorial is a Gospel-Centered Church that believes Jesus is everything and through faith/belief/trust in Jesus we pursue following Him together as one family. We believe that God places His people together in the context of a local body of believers (His church), not by accident, but for the Spirit-empowered purpose of glorifying Him through repenting and believing the Gospel of His son, Jesus Christ. Through His church we see His kingdom come and His will being done as He makes all creation right and new. In all we do we seek to worship the Lord passionately, connect with each other authentically, grow to know the Lord deeply, and go and share the gospel boldly as One Body in Christ.

Choose Life: The Choice Moses Preached and Jesus Finished | Deuteronomy 30 | Pastor David Newton
2026/10/21
“I did it my way.” It’s one of the most-requested funeral songs. But is that actually the life we want? In this message, Pastor David opens Moses’ final sermon in Deuteronomy 30 — a love letter, a warning, and a choice. Eleven days from the promised land took forty years because of what was in their hearts. Now a new generation stands at the edge again. What will they choose? Moses says: Choose life. Jesus says: I am the life. In this message: Why 11 days became 40 years — and what that has to do with our hearts How God restores after failure — and what He does to our hearts when we turn back The choice: life and good, or death and evil What “hold fast” means, from Genesis to John 15 How everything Moses promised is fulfilled in Christ 📖 Scripture: Deuteronomy 30 | Joshua 24 | John 14:6 | Romans 10:9 | Colossians 2–3 Listen on the go: 🎙️ Podcast: https://memorialchurchjc.podbean.com/ ▶️ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@memorialbaptist9681 🌐 Website: https://www.memorialchurch.net
Go With Us: Presence, Pardon, and Possession in Exodus 33–34
2026/10/11
What comes into your mind when you think about God? It’s the most important thing about you. In this final message of our series, Pastor David opens Exodus 33-34 - where Moses makes three extraordinary requests after Israel’s great failure: Go with us. Pardon us. Take us as Your own. And in Jesus, God says yes to all three. His goodness and steadfast love are pursuing you. He doesn’t clear the guilty - He bore it Himself. In this message: The Name God revealed: merciful, gracious, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love Why Moses wanted to see God’s glory - and what God showed him instead Three prayers Moses prayed, and how Jesus answered every one What it means to be sealed, adopted, and kept as God’s inheritance What to do when you fail: don’t run - look to Jesus 📖 Scripture: Exodus 33–34 | John 1:14–18 | Ephesians 1:13–14 | Psalm 23:6 Listen on the go: 🎙️ Podcast: https://memorialchurchjc.podbean.com/ ▶️ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@memorialbaptist9681 🌐 Website: https://www.memorialchurch.net
Stiff-Necked: The Golden Calf and the God Who Stays | Exodus 32 | Pastor David Newton
2026/10/04
They made vows. Then, forty days later, they built a golden calf. Pastor David opens Exodus 32- the story of Israel's great betrayal - and traces it from the wedding at Sinai to the stiff-necked people dancing before an idol they made with their own gold. It's a story about attention, idolatry, and the God who takes sin seriously enough to judge it and stays involved enough to bear it Himself. What we look to shapes where we go. Where are your eyes? In this message: The wedding God planned - and the betrayal that came next Why we reshape God into something we can manage How idols start small and never stay that way What Moses' intercession points to - and why only Jesus could finish it How to look up: Repent. Believe. Live. 📖 Scripture: Exodus 32 | Psalm 119:37 | Romans 3:25 | John 6:40 Listen on the go: 🎙️ Podcast: https://memorialchurchjc.podbean.com/ ▶️ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@memorialbaptist9681 🌐 Website: https://www.memorialchurch.net
Covet: The Desire That Eats Itself | Exodus 20:17 | Pastor David Newton
2026/10/01
You're surrounded by desire generators — feeds, ads, algorithms, comparison. But coveting isn't just a problem with wanting too much. It's a worship problem. In this final message of our Ten Commandments series, Pastor David opens Exodus 20:17 to show that desire itself is a gift from God - but unchecked, it rewrites history, undermines relationships, and leads us straight back to the garden where everything went wrong. What we keep trying to take, God has already given us in Christ. In this message: Why desire isn't the problem - how it's ordered is The pattern from Eden to Achan: See → Desire → Take How Jesus reorders what we want The Magnet, Compass, Map, and Guide - a framework for ordering desire Why the Lord's Table is the answer to covetousness 📖 Scripture: Exodus 20:17 | Genesis 1–3 | Philippians 2:6–8 | Romans 8:32 Listen on the go: 🎙️ Podcast: https://memorialchurchjc.podbean.com/ ▶️ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@memorialbaptist9681 🌐 Website: https://www.memorialchurch.net
The Weight of a Word: Truth, Justice, and the Ninth Commandment | Exodus 20:16
2026/09/20
Don't lie. That's how we've summarized it. But that weakens the depth of it. The ninth commandment wasn't written for polite conversation. It was written for the city gate - the ancient courtroom where elders weighed witnesses, established truth, and handed down verdicts. And bearing false witness in that context wasn't just dishonesty. It was violence. Proverbs 25:18 says it plainly: a false witness is like a war club, a sword, or a sharp arrow. In this message, Pastor Jimmy walks through what bearing false witness actually means - legal testimony, what we say about others, what we say about ourselves, rumors, gossip - and what it does to image bearers of God. He lands on the most haunting inversion in the Gospels: when Jesus stood at His own city gate, it was a Roman pagan who sought the truth while the religious leaders manipulated the witnesses. In this message: Why the ninth commandment is about justice, not just honesty How false witness damages image bearers - reputations, relationships, and bodies The COVID study that revealed how gossip and rumors are a form of violence The difference between brutal honesty and speaking truth in love How Jesus responded to false accusations - and what He did with ours Key Scriptures: Exodus 20:16; 23:1–8 • Deuteronomy 19:15–21 • Proverbs 25:18 • Mark 14:55–15:15 • Ephesians 4:15 🙌 Join us Sundays @ 9:15 AM 1120 Madison St., Jefferson City, MO 🌐 https://memorialchurch.net 📩 [email protected] 💬 https://www.facebook.com/memorialchurchjc 🎧 Listen on the go: Podbean: https://memorialchurchjc.podbean.com/ Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/memorial-baptist-church-jefferson-city/id1478157245 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5CuIDzWry5Y2oz8TBHOKoH YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@memorialbaptist9681
Open Hands: Scarcity, Stealing, and the Generous God | Exodus 20:15
2026/09/13
Do not steal. Simple enough, right? But the biblical definition of stealing goes further than most of us want to admit — taking without consent, yes, but also defrauding, deceiving, and withholding what is rightfully owed. And underneath all of it is the same mentality: there isn't enough, so I better take what I can get. In this message, Eric walks through the eighth commandment and makes the case that this is really a generosity sermon. He traces the scarcity mentality from COVID toilet paper shelves to the Malachi storehouse, from the farmer's market scale to Abraham on the mountain — and lands on the only thing that actually transforms takers into givers: the gospel. In this message: What stealing actually means — legally and biblically How taking from your neighbor diminishes them — and connects to contempt The scarcity mentality vs. our generous God who has cattle on a thousand hills Why God asked for tithes — and what Nehemiah 12 says about where it actually went The rich young man and the open hands Jesus asks for Key Scriptures: Exodus 20:15 • Leviticus 19 • Malachi 3:6–12 • Genesis 22 • 2 Corinthians 8:9 • Matthew 19:16–22 • Philippians 2 • Proverbs 11:1 🙌 Join us Sundays @ 9:15 AM 1120 Madison St., Jefferson City, MO 🌐 https://memorialchurch.net 📩 [email protected] 💬 https://www.facebook.com/memorialchurchjc 🎧 Listen on the go: Podbean: https://memorialchurchjc.podbean.com/ Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/memorial-baptist-church-jefferson-city/id1478157245 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5CuIDzWry5Y2oz8TBHOKoH YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@memorialbaptist9681
Steadfast Love: What the Seventh Commandment Is Really Protecting | Exodus 20:14
2026/09/06
Two Hebrew words. "You shall not commit adultery." But God isn't merely guarding sexual behavior. He is guarding a covenant union He designed to tell the truth about Himself. In this message, Pastor David traces four movements through the seventh commandment — the boundary God protects, the blessing He reveals, the covenant He keeps, and the love He sends. From Genesis 1's picture of one-and-many, to ezer kenegdo (the woman as strong ally, not assistant), to Hosea and Gomer, to Jesus on the Sermon on the Mount exposing the lust that takes without asking — and finally to the cross, where the faithful God kept covenant with unfaithful people. This is not just a sermon for married people. It is a call for everyone to be covenant-guarding people. In this message: Why God guards this boundary so fiercely — it's His self-portrait Ezer kenegdo — what the woman's role in Genesis 2 actually means The Hosea/Gomer thread and why Scripture uses adultery language for Israel's unfaithfulness Jesus on lust: not a glance, but a sustained stare with intent — the same pattern as Eden How Christ's blood establishes the new covenant for covenant-breakers Key Scriptures: Exodus 20:14 • Genesis 1:26–28; 2:18, 23–24 • Deuteronomy 7:7–9 • Hosea 1–3 • Matthew 5:27–28; 26:28 • Romans 5:8 • Ephesians 1; 5:25, 31–32 • 1 John 4:19 🙌 Join us Sundays @ 9:15 AM 1120 Madison St., Jefferson City, MO 🌐 https://memorialchurch.net 📩 [email protected] 💬 https://www.facebook.com/memorialchurchjc 🎧 Listen on the go: Podbean: https://memorialchurchjc.podbean.com/ Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/memorial-baptist-church-jefferson-city/id1478157245 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5CuIDzWry5Y2oz8TBHOKoH YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@memorialbaptist9681
The Fire We Keep: Anger, Idols, and the Life Jesus Gives | Exodus 20:13 Part 2
2026/08/30
Last week: contempt, two paths, a better word. This week: Jesus goes deeper. He's not after the spark of anger. He's after the fire we keep. In Matthew 5, Jesus connects lingering anger to murder - and then uses a word nobody expected: Gehenna. Not a metaphor. A real valley south of Jerusalem where the kings of Judah once burned their children alive. A valley so defiled that by Jesus' day it had become the Jewish word for final judgment. And He puts contempt on that continuum. In this message, Pastor David follows three movements - anger reveals what we worship, idols always demand life, and Jesus does the opposite. He traces it from Cain to Gehenna to the cross, addresses abortion with pastoral care and biblical conviction, and closes with the only question that matters: which path will you hand down? In this message: Why Jesus targets "remaining anger" - nursing a grudge, not a momentary flare The history of Gehenna - and what it reveals about idols and human worth Why idols always demand life - and what a culture looks like when it decides who counts A pastoral, biblical conversation about abortion and the Church's historic response Three closing practices: receive life, protect life, give life Key Scriptures: Exodus 20:13; 34:6–7 • Matthew 5:21–22 • James 1:19–20 • Romans 12:19; 6:23 • Jeremiah 19:4–5 • Psalm 115:8; 139:13–16 • 1 John 3:15–16 • John 7:37–39; 14:6 🙌 Join us Sundays @ 9:15 AM 1120 Madison St., Jefferson City, MO 🌐 https://memorialchurch.net 📩 [email protected] 💬 https://www.facebook.com/memorialchurchjc 🎧 Listen on the go: Podbean: https://memorialchurchjc.podbean.com/ Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/memorial-baptist-church-jefferson-city/id1478157245 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5CuIDzWry5Y2oz8TBHOKoH YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@memorialbaptist9681
Two Paths and a Better Word: The Sixth Commandment | Exodus 20:13
2026/08/26
You shall not murder. Easy enough, right? But Jesus doesn't stop at the act. He goes upstream - to the anger, the insult, the quiet contempt. And He stacks them, not because they're three levels of a grading system, but because they all come from the same root. There's an English word for that root: contempt. Taking the judge's seat over another image bearer and declaring them worthless - with your hands, your words, or just your silence. In this message, Pastor David traces three verdicts across the whole Bible - God's verdict, our verdict, and Christ's verdict - and shows that while Abel's blood cried out against Cain, Jesus' blood speaks a better word. In this message: The Hebrew rāṣaḥ - why "murder" is broader than premeditated killing The two paths of Genesis: Cain's line and Seth's line, and where each one ends What Dallas Willard says about contempt - and why it's more dangerous than anger Matthew 5:21–24 - Jesus exposes the upstream root of murder in every heart Three practices for followers of Jesus: get out of the judge's seat, see the image, move toward Key Scriptures: Exodus 20:13 • Genesis 1:26–27; 4:5–10; 9:5–6 • Matthew 5:21–24, 43–45; 11:28–30; 22:37–40; 26:28 • 1 John 3:15 • Romans 2:1; 8:1; 10:9–10 • Hebrews 12:24 • Ephesians 1:7 • John 3:16–18; 14:6; 20:31 🙌 Join us Sundays @ 9:15 AM 1120 Madison St., Jefferson City, MO 🌐 https://memorialchurch.net 📩 [email protected] 💬 https://www.facebook.com/memorialchurchjc 🎧 Listen on the go: Podbean: https://memorialchurchjc.podbean.com/ Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/memorial-baptist-church-jefferson-city/id1478157245 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5CuIDzWry5Y2oz8TBHOKoH YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@memorialbaptist9681
The Weight of Honor: Kavod, Parents, and the Fifth Commandment | Exodus 20:12
2026/08/26
We hear "honor" and think respect. But the Hebrew word is kavod — something that is weighted, heaped upon, heavy with significance. That changes the whole commandment. The fifth word is the hinge of the entire ten. The first four go up- how you relate to God. The last five go out -how you treat people. And right in the middle, bridging both directions, is this: honor your father and mother. In this message, Pastor Nathan walks through what kavod actually means, why this is the only commandment that comes with a promise, how Jesus confronted the Pharisees' clever loophole around it, and what it means to honor a parent who wasn't honorable. Honest, theologically rich, and pastorally careful. In this message: The Hebrew kavod and what "honor" really means beyond respect Why scholars call this the hinge between loving God and loving people The Corban loophole Jesus exposes in Matthew 15 — and what it reveals about financial responsibility Why Romans 13 and Titus 2 expand this command to all authority — and what that demands of leaders What honoring a parent looks like when they weren't honorable to you Key Scriptures: Exodus 20:12 • Ephesians 6:1–4 • Matthew 15:1–9 • Romans 13:1–7 • Titus 2:1–8 • Proverbs 4 • Philippians 2:3 🙌 Join us Sundays @ 9:15 AM 1120 Madison St., Jefferson City, MO 🌐 https://memorialchurch.net 📩 [email protected] 💬 https://www.facebook.com/memorialchurchjc 🎧 Listen on the go: Podbean: https://memorialchurchjc.podbean.com/ Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/memorial-baptist-church-jefferson-city/id1478157245 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5CuIDzWry5Y2oz8TBHOKoH YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@memorialbaptist9681
Remember the Sabbath: Work and Rest in God's Rhythm and Melody | Exodus 20:8–11
2026/08/09
We are the most productive, connected, efficient, and exhausted people in history. We wear our busyness like a badge. We brag about how little we sleep. We're proud to break the one commandment we need most. God built a rhythm into creation itself - work and rest, pointing to Him. But somewhere along the way, we kept the words and lost the melody. We have rest, PTO, vacation, self-care - but they send us back to our own goals and pleasures. That's not Sabbath. That's just the same song in a different key. In this message, Pastor David walks through the fourth commandment in three movements: the rhythm God built, the melody we lost, and the Lord of the Sabbath - who stepped into His own song to become our rest.   In this message: Why the fourth commandment is the only one that starts with "Remember" - and what that tells us How God stitched Sabbath into all of creation: the day, the year, the Jubilee Why refusing rest means someone always pays - and who that usually is How Jesus healed, re-created, and set people free on the Sabbath - and what that reveals Four beats for practicing Sabbath this week: stop, rest, delight, worship   Key Scriptures: Exodus 20:8–11 • Genesis 2:1–3, 15 • Deuteronomy 5:15 • Psalm 127:1–2 • Isaiah 58:13–14 • Mark 2:27–28; 3:1–6 • Luke 4:18–21; 13:10–17 • Matthew 11:28 • Ephesians 2:8–10   🙌 Join us Sundays @ 9:15 AM 1120 Madison St., Jefferson City, MO 🌐 https://memorialchurch.net 📩 [email protected] 💬 https://www.facebook.com/memorialchurchjc   🎧 Listen on the go: Podbean: https://memorialchurchjc.podbean.com/ Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/memorial-baptist-church-jefferson-city/id1478157245 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5CuIDzWry5Y2oz8TBHOKoH YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@memorialbaptist9681
Carry the Name: What It Means to Walk Worthy | Exodus 20:7
2026/08/09
We've simplified it to: don't use God's name as a curse word. But the Hebrew word isn't "take" - it's carry. And that changes everything. When Moses built an altar in Exodus 17 and called it "The Lord is my banner," he was saying: God's name is what we carry into battle. Before the commandment was even given, Moses understood - the name isn't a word you say. It's a banner you bear, a life you live, a claim you carry everywhere you go. In this message, Pastor Jimmy walks through what it actually means to carry God's name in vain - flippantly, as a formula, to get others to do what you want, or by living a life that contradicts what you profess. And then lands on the harder question Jesus asks in Matthew 7: not whether you've said the right words, but whether He knows you. In this message: Why "take" is the wrong translation - and what "carry" changes The sons of Sceva in Acts 19 - what happens when you use the name as a magic formula The fine line between sharing what God prompted and projecting your opinion in His name Matthew 7:21 - the people who prophesied and cast out demons Jesus says He never knew Romans 10:9 - the difference between lip service and heart belief Key Scriptures: Exodus 17:15; 20:7 • Acts 19:13–17 • Matthew 7:21–23 • Romans 10:9 • Colossians 1:9–14 🙌 Join us Sundays @ 9:15 AM 1120 Madison St., Jefferson City, MO 🌐 https://memorialchurch.net 📩 [email protected] 💬 https://www.facebook.com/memorialchurchjc 🎧 Listen on the go: Podbean: https://memorialchurchjc.podbean.com/ Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/memorial-baptist-church-jefferson-city/id1478157245 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5CuIDzWry5Y2oz8TBHOKoH YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@memorialbaptist9681
Familified: One Body, One Father, One Family | 1 Corinthians 12
2026/07/28
Everybody came from a family. Some good. Some hard. Some you're still healing from. Here's what the whole Bible keeps saying: family was God's idea first. And He has never stopped building one. This Sunday, Pastor David brought the church together to celebrate kids and youth camp - and to show from Genesis to 1 Corinthians 12 that God has always been gathering His children. Kari (18 years in children's ministry) and Tisha (6 years leading youth) shared the vision and heartbeat of what's happening with the next generation. And a family in our church stood up and said what happens when a church actually lives this out - what it means to walk through something impossibly hard and not walk through it alone. In this message: The biblical flyover from Babel to Abraham - how God re-gathers what sin scatters Why Judges 2:10 is the reason youth ministry exists - and why we refuse to be that generation What 1 Corinthians 12 says about every member - including the youngest and the weakest Tisha's four-word youth vision: head, heart, hands, and feet Why your presence, your role, and your showing up matter more than you think Key Scriptures: Genesis 1:27–28; 12:3 • Deuteronomy 6:4–7 • Judges 2:10 • Mark 3:35 • John 1:12–13 • 1 Corinthians 12:12–27 • Ephesians 2:19; 3:14–15 • 1 John 3:1 • Colossians 2:6–7; 3:17 🙌 Join us Sundays @ 9:15 AM 1120 Madison St., Jefferson City, MO 🌐 https://memorialchurch.net 📩 [email protected] 💬 https://www.facebook.com/memorialchurchjc 🎧 Listen on the go: Podbean: https://memorialchurchjc.podbean.com/ Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/memorial-baptist-church-jefferson-city/id1478157245 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5CuIDzWry5Y2oz8TBHOKoH YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@memorialbaptist9681
Don't diminish God with idols: Live as the image bearer you were created to be
2026/07/28
An idol doesn't have to be carved from wood or melted from gold. The most dangerous idol is a God made small enough to understand, control, and never be afraid of. Israel stood trembling at Mount Sinai — fire, smoke, a trumpet blast shaking the whole camp. Then 40 days later, they made a calf. The same people. The same God. Now small enough to hold. In this message, Pastor Jimmy walks through what an idol actually is — including a Hebrew word used by Ezekiel that means something closer to a ball of poop — and then flips the whole conversation. Because the real question isn't just what you're worshipping. It's what you were made to be. You were made to be God's image bearer. The Holy Spirit fills you so you can reflect His glory. You were never meant to diminish Him — you were made to display Him.   In this message: Three Hebrew words for idol — and what they reveal about the heart behind the object Why galal (Ezekiel's favorite word for idols) literally means a ball of dung What the golden calf reveals about how we diminish God to something manageable Why "God is love" can become an idol when we use it to edit out everything else How Genesis 2, John 20, and the Great Commission are all the same story Key Scriptures: Exodus 20:4–6; 32 • Genesis 1–2 • Zechariah 13:9 • John 14:16–17; 20:21–22 • Ephesians 2:10 • Matthew 28:18–20 🙌 Join us Sundays @ 9:15 AM 1120 Madison St., Jefferson City, MO 🌐 https://memorialchurch.net 📩 [email protected] 💬 https://www.facebook.com/memorialchurchjc 🎧 Listen on the go: Podbean: https://memorialchurchjc.podbean.com/ Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/memorial-baptist-church-jefferson-city/id1478157245 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5CuIDzWry5Y2oz8TBHOKoH YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@memorialbaptist9681
No Other Gods: Who Is Actually on the Throne? | Exodus 20:1–3
2026/07/15
Fire. Smoke. Thunder. A trumpet blast shaking the whole camp. And the first thing this mountain-shaking God says is not a command — it's a relationship. I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt. Rescue before requirement. Character before command. That's the shape of everything that follows — including the first commandment. In this message, Pastor David walks through Exodus 20:1–3 in three movements: God's character as a Father who claims and rescues before He commands, the first commandment and what al-panai really means, and the fulfillment in Jesus Christ — who is the same voice from the burning bush, now shed in blood to rescue you from the one slavery no Pharaoh could reach. In this message: Why the first commandment is the floor everything else is built on The Hebrew al-panai — four directions: before, beside, instead of, and against Why God says "other gods" — and what the Bible actually says about whether they exist The amnesia thread: Israel forgot, the Pharisees forgot, and we forget too Why your sin, your shame, and your worst decision don't get to name you — only Jesus does Key Scriptures: Exodus 20:1–6 • Genesis 17 • Exodus 34:6 • Matthew 22:36–40 • John 8:31–34 • John 14:6 • Romans 5:8; 6:23; 10:9, 13 🙌 Join us Sundays @ 9:15 AM 1120 Madison St., Jefferson City, MO 🌐 https://memorialchurch.net 📩 [email protected] 💬 https://www.facebook.com/memorialchurchjc 🎧 Listen on the go: Podbean: https://memorialchurchjc.podbean.com/ Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/memorial-baptist-church-jefferson-city/id1478157245 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5CuIDzWry5Y2oz8TBHOKoH YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@memorialbaptist9681
