A reminder that although the podcast has been cancelled, previous episodes can be downloaded at 1517.org. Chad Bird, Rev. Edward Killian, John Andrew Schreiner and Eddy Duhan wish to thank all of you have listened and given your time and support to this podcast. It has been a tremendous honor to present these episodes as a quiet time for spiritual refreshment and rejuvenation for the people of God. As all creation enters the final Day of the Lord, where the things that once seemed important now fade away, we hear the question "who is worthy to open the scroll?". In this Advent edition, Chad takes us to the home of Elizabeth and Zachariah, when Mary comes to visit her cousin and proclaim the greatness of God and celebrate the greatness of His mercy, the God of heaven now come to earth and causing John the Baptist to leap for joy in his mother's womb. This week is the first week in Advent and how wonderful to reflect on the Benedictus, the prayer of Zachariah, after John the Baptist was born. We have so much to be grateful for, and most of all we can give thanks for Christ Jesus leaving the heights of heaven and coming to dwell among us, taking our sin, destroying death and making eternity in heaven possible to thise who call upon His name. One of the most encouraging scriptures we have to remind us that we are not alone, even when everything we see is telling us to give up and lose hope. Chad beautifully meditates upon this treasure and lifts are hearts to God, the Eternal One. Another rough passage of scripture that describes God's wrath as he judges His people for their actions. Chad digs into this and the similarities to the language from Exodus. Chad encourages to meditate on verse 2: "in wrath, remember mercy". And God has remembered, sending His beloved Son to earth to live and die in our place, rise again and break the cold chains of bondage that bind us all. For Jeremiah and the people he cares about, this is not a happy ending. Chad takes us by the hand through the devestation and somehow we emerge knowing that God will always hold on to us. This is a tough passage. Defeat, humiliation, devestation, and the false prophets led the sheep to the slaughter. Chad meditates on this heavy lament from the prophet Jeremiah and reminds us that our only hope is in our Saviour Jesus Christ. Marvelle Figueroa sings the haunting song "Sandcastle". Well this is a tough one... not really the most encouraging passage of scripture to meditate on, but there is so much wealth in these verses. We are encouraged to remember that wealth and status and pleasure can pass in an instant and each of us could wake up broke, sick, hurt, humbled and changed by circumstance. In this passage Jeremiah laments over the misery he sees. Chad leads us through this passage and points us to the sure hope of Christ, our Savior, who holds onto us and will never abandon us. Like many of the laments of Jeremiah, this is a mixture of questions, frustration, anger, trust and hope. Verse 22 says "there is no sorrow like all of my sorrow". Wow... Only God can redeem the times when we are trapped and unable to free ourselves. Sometimes all we can say is "Lord , have mercy, Christ have mercy. Jeremiah could see what was happening, and was serving God by warning everyone. God understands and is our only hope. In this passage Jeremiah is enthusiastically praising God, then cursing the day he was born, then speaking as a warrior, then speaking fearfully. Chad understands and ruminates on this subject, then points us yet again to our certain hope, hope that is always present, even when we don't even know ourselves.
