In this special interview, recorded in Tanzania, Voice of Persecuted Christians partner Bishop Mafuja talks about gospel ministry in the coastal regions of Tanzania—an area with a high concentration of Muslims. India: Now it’s persecution by law
2026/06/03
Voice podcast host Kenneth Harrod speaks with Bishop Joseph D’Souza about India’s Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA), created about 50 years ago to stop foreign funds being used for terrorism but, he says, increasingly used to target civil society and Christian organisations. D’Souza alleges that recent non-transparent license renewals led to nearly 22,000 groups being denied registration, many of them Christian, disrupting education, feeding, healthcare, and jobs for the poor, and cites the closure of Compassion’s work affecting 140,000 children. He warns proposed new amendments, due for discussion in Parliament’s monsoon session in July after being deferred, would create a “designated authority” able to take over institutions and assets with even partial foreign funding, apply powers retrospectively, and force costly legal challenges, calling it legalized persecution and urging UK Christians to pray the bill is dropped.

From Prison to the Nations (Part 2). Sharif's Story of Persecution, Mission and Revival
2026/03/05
In this episode of the Release International Voice podcast, Tom Hardie continues his conversation with Sharif*, a former radicalised Muslim from a family of imams who encountered Christ while in prison. We rejoin the story after his conversion, when Sharif was given an additional year behind bars on a charge of blasphemy, a sentence he calls 'the best year of my life.' From there, he describes the devastating fallout: his family’s fury at his decision to follow Jesus, the burning of his documents, his disowning, the loss of inheritance, and even a fatwa permitting his killing. The threats that followed forced him into a life of constant movement. Despite this, Sharif was later sent as a missionary to a Muslim-majority island, where he witnessed extraordinary provision and spiritual harvest in the face of persistent persecution. He also reflects on the tension between Indonesia’s constitutional protections for religious freedom and the harsh realities on the ground - village-level hostility, church closures and burnings, and ongoing legal pressure through hate-speech accusations. Sharif closes by urging believers to pray for revival, courage, and steadfastness for those enduring persecution today. *name changed for security reasons
