Kalm with Kava | Exploring Natural Ways to Calm Anxiety & Manage Stress with Morgan Smith
2026/04/21
Kalm with Kava | Exploring Natural Ways to Calm Anxiety & Manage Stress
with Morgan Smith
In today’s fast-paced world, many people are searching for natural, plant-based ways to calm anxiety and manage daily stress. In this episode of Linda’s Corner: Inspiration for a Better Life, I sit down with Morgan Smith, a kava enthusiast, wellness entrepreneur, and CEO of Monsoon Beverages, as well as the operator of Pu‘īwa Hawaiian Farms.
Morgan introduces us to kava, a traditional Pacific Island beverage with a long and respected history. For centuries, kava has been grown and consumed throughout islands such as Vanuatu, Fiji, Tonga, and Samoa. Across these cultures, kava has symbolized respect and connection and has been used in social gatherings, spiritual ceremonies, and traditional healing practices.
We explore how kava is now gaining attention in Western wellness circles for its calming and anxiolytic properties. Morgan explains that kava’s effects come from its active compounds, kavalactones, which are concentrated in the root of the plant. These compounds interact with the brain’s limbic system—particularly the amygdala, which plays a key role in emotional regulation. For many people, this interaction creates a sense of both mental and physical relaxation.
Morgan describes kava as the opposite of coffee—an “anti-coffee,” if you will. While coffee is often used to energize and stimulate, kava is typically enjoyed in the evening to help the body unwind and the mind slow down. It doesn’t produce intoxication like alcohol; instead, Morgan compares it to a strong chamomile tea with noticeable calming effects.
Since I haven’t personally tried kava, Morgan also walks us through what someone can expect when trying it for the first time. He shares that kava has a naturally bitter taste (definitely not sweet!) and may cause a mild tingling or numbing sensation in the mouth. Traditionally, kava is served in several small portions—often called “shells,” named after the coconut shells originally used to drink it.
While kava may not be for everyone, this conversation opens the door to understanding natural herbal options that support relaxation, stress relief, and emotional well-being. It’s a thoughtful exploration of ancient wisdom meeting modern wellness.

And yet—when Meghann shares her story, she does so with grace, warmth, and even a smile.
In this conversation, Meghann explains how she moved from identifying as a victim of her circumstances to becoming the hero of her own story. Through deep inner work, she learned to believe a life-changing truth: she is loved and enough just as she is.

Meghann also shares her powerful Imperfect Level Up Framework, a practical and soulful guide for growth and healing:

Overcoming Grief Through Creativity and Purpose with Ksenia Merck
2026/04/07
Overcoming Grief Through Creativity and Purpose
Guest: Ksenia Merck
Grief can arrive in waves—unexpected, overwhelming, and deeply personal. In this moving episode, we sit down with Ksenia Merck, an artist, architect, creative storyteller, and publisher, who shares how she navigated profound loss and transformed grief into a meaningful act of love.
After the heartbreaking loss of her mother, Ksenia was soon faced with another devastating blow when her husband, Bill, was diagnosed with cancer and later passed away. Bill left behind an unfinished manuscript. Rather than letting his words fade, Ksenia made it her mission to bring his work to life.
Through her vivid illustrations and posthumous publication of Ghostflower, Ksenia honored Bill’s legacy in a deeply personal way. As she immersed herself in the manuscript, she recognized pieces of their shared life reflected in the characters and experiences within the story. In many ways, the book became a love letter from Bill to Ksenia—and she responded with a love letter of her own through art.
In addition to publishing the book, Ksenia created a companion journal designed to help readers reflect, process, and internalize the themes woven throughout the story. The journal offers space for self-exploration, healing, and personal meaning—an invitation to engage with grief rather than avoid it.
Ksenia shares how embracing a creative project became a vital part of her own healing journey. She gently reminds us that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to grief and no set timeline for healing. Instead, she encourages those who are grieving to:
Find purpose and meaningHonor the life and legacy of their loved oneExpress grief in a way that feels authenticKeep moving forward, one step at a timeThis episode is a tender reminder that while grief changes us, it can also open the door to connection, creativity, and transformation.

Invisible Scars: Surviving, Healing, and Finding Your Voice with Christopher Carazas
2026/03/03
Invisible Scars: Surviving, Healing, and Finding Your Voice with Christopher Carazas
Some of the deepest wounds are the ones no one can see.
In this powerful and vulnerable episode, we explore invisible scars with survivor, storyteller, and global development and social impact leader Christopher Carazas. Christopher shares his deeply personal journey of being diagnosed with autism as an adult—and how years of masking his true self left him feeling like he never truly belonged.
Instead of receiving understanding and compassion after his diagnosis, Christopher was met with psychological, emotional, and verbal abuse. He was told he wasn’t good enough, that he should be ashamed of his existence, and that he didn’t deserve the space he took up in the world. These cruel and dehumanizing messages led him to attempt suicide—twice. Thankfully, Christopher is still here.
Those experiences became the foundation for his memoir, Now That I’m Still Here, a raw and honest exploration of trauma, autism, grief, abuse, and survival.
Christopher describes his life as a “mosaic of shifting landscapes and invisible scars.” Growing up across continents, he learned to adapt constantly while rarely feeling accepted. Masking his autism became a survival strategy—until abuse weaponized his differences and pushed him toward collapse and silence. Healing did not come dramatically or heroically, but breath by breath.
Through profound loss, grief, and rebuilding after devastation, Christopher found his way back to himself through writing. His story speaks to anyone who has survived emotional abuse, lived with grief as a daily companion, or struggled to reclaim their voice—especially men and neurodivergent individuals who are often taught to stay silent.
This episode is a reminder that survival itself is meaningful—and that telling our stories can be a powerful act of healing.
In this episode, we discuss:
Invisible scars and why they can be just as painful as physical woundsAdult autism diagnosis and the lifelong impact of maskingThe devastating effects of emotional, psychological, and verbal abuseSuicide attempts, survival, and choosing to keep goingGrief, loss, and rebuilding after everything falls apartWriting as a pathway to healing and reclaiming identityWhy men and neurodivergent individuals must be supported in finding their voicesConnect with Christopher:

Healing Our Hearts: Literally and Figuratively with Steve Larsen
2026/02/10
Healing Our Hearts: Literally and Figuratively with Steve Larsen – Entrepreneur, Author, Car and Motorcycle Enthusiast, Heart Warrior, and Resilient Father Guest Website: https://stevelarsen.net
🎧 Episode Summary:
What does it mean to truly heal a broken heart—both physically and emotionally? In this deeply moving episode of Linda’s Corner, we welcome Steve Larsen, a serial entrepreneur, car and motorcycle enthusiast, and author of My Heart Has Been in It from the Start. Steve’s story is as extraordinary as it is inspiring. He helped shape technologies that now power platforms like Facebook, Google, and Amazon, and he has traveled the world on two wheels. But behind his remarkable success lies a journey through immense personal loss and healing.
At age 15, Steve underwent experimental heart surgery—the first of three open-heart procedures throughout his life. He was once clinically dead for nearly six hours. But it wasn’t heart failure or near-death experiences that proved the most painful—it was the death of his young son, Eric, who passed away during a surgery gone tragically wrong. Steve and his family were left not only with grief but also with a storm of anger and injustice.
Through unimaginable loss, Steve developed profound resilience. “If I can survive the loss of a child, I can survive anything,” he says. Today, he honors Eric’s memory by supporting other parents who’ve lost a child, helping them find strength, perspective, and gratitude in the aftermath of tragedy.
Steve’s heart was opened again in a beautiful and unexpected way when he discovered a daughter he never knew he had—born 39 years earlier and reunited through a DNA test. Their joyful reunion added a new chapter to his family story and reminded him, once again, of the powerful threads that connect us.
This episode explores:
The resilience born from profound loss
How grief changes our approach to parenting and life
What it’s like to live with—and recover from—serious heart conditions
Finding unexpected joy through family, passion, and connection
Why healing is not linear, but possible
Steve’s life is a tapestry of triumphs and trials, heartbreak and healing, fast cars and second chances. His story is a reminder that everyone is carrying unseen burdens—and that compassion, connection, and courage are at the heart of real healing.
🌟 Key Quote:
“Rebounding from health issues can’t hold a candle to rebounding from the loss of a child… But when you survive that, you realize nothing else can hurt you the same way again.”

Now, Pamela helps others understand the deeper emotional roots that can influence the decision to divorce. She invites listeners to pause, reflect, and heal before making choices that carry lifelong consequences.
In this episode, we explore:
The often unseen emotional cost of divorce on children
How childhood trauma can shape adult relationships
Why healing yourself is key before trying to fix or escape a relationship
The importance of self-compassion, transparency, and owning our mistakes as parents
How to create a healthier future by confronting the past
This episode is a compassionate, thought-provoking invitation to approach relationships with deeper awareness and responsibility. If you're navigating a difficult relationship or healing from your past, this conversation is for you.

Reclaiming Your Life: Healing Chronic Pain and Illness with Lori Clemmons

Reclaiming Your Life: Healing Chronic Pain and Illness with Lori Clemmons
Episode Summary:
In this transformative episode of Linda’s Corner: Inspiration for a Better Life, we welcome Lori Clemmons—compassionate wellness coach, certified clinical trauma specialist, NLP master practitioner, hypnotherapy expert, and survivor of chronic illness. Lori shares her remarkable journey of living with chronic illness and pain for over 27 years, including being bedridden for more than a year and homebound for over two. Despite following every traditional path to healing—from medication to specialized diets—nothing worked… until she approached healing from the inside out.
Lori opens up about the emotional and physical toll of chronic illness and how a shift in perspective—slowing down, cultivating joy, and finding peace—transformed her health and life. She teaches that true healing starts when we calm the nervous system and create space for the body to rest and repair.
If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or hopeless on your health journey, Lori’s story offers real hope and practical steps to reclaim your well-being. Learn how mindfulness, self-compassion, nervous system regulation, and small daily choices can ignite powerful healing from within.
Key Takeaways:
Chronic illness can be linked to an overactive stress response—we can’t heal when we’re stuck in fight-or-flight.
Healing often begins by slowing down and making space for joy, art, stillness, and gratitude.
You can experience joy even with symptoms.
Nervous system regulation is foundational—start small: one breath, one walk, one kind word to yourself.
Positive self-talk and compassionate self-coaching are powerful tools for long-term wellness.
Healing is not about doing more—it’s about being more present and choosing what nourishes your mind, body, and spirit.
Powerful Quotes from Lori Clemmons:
“I started trying to find joy in life rather than slogging through and working so hard... and once I made that switch, my symptoms started reducing. Within about 10 months, my symptoms were all gone.”
“It wasn't until I could relax the nervous system that my body had the energy to be able to focus on healing. And it was amazing.”
“If you have a fire in the kitchen, it's not the time to be making your bed.”
“We reclaim moments. And by reclaiming moments, we calm the nervous system and allow the body to heal.”
An Invitation to Our Listeners:
If you're dealing with chronic illness or pain, we invite you to pause. Reflect. And consider that healing might not be about trying harder, but about softening, listening, and allowing your body to return to safety. As Dr. John Demartini says, “Incurable means curable from within.”

Chuck has spent over three decades helping individuals and organizations unlock the power of language and human dynamics. After witnessing the transformative impact of intentional dialogue, he wrote The Art of Conscious Conversations—a practical guide to understanding why conversations work, why they don’t, and how to navigate them more effectively both at work and at home.
In This Episode, You’ll Learn:
The 4 hidden elements behind every opinion or judgment:
Desires and goals
Concerns about the future
Authority and power dynamics
Standards of right/wrong or good/bad (often inherited unconsciously)
How to prepare for conversations by reflecting on these four areas to become more self-aware and empathetic
The role of ego in clouding our judgment and how it affects how we listen
The 4 types of conversations and why we often skip the most crucial ones:
Storytelling
Collaborative
Creative
Decision-making/Commitments
What “conversational bypass” means and how it blocks creativity and true connection
Why we need to slow down, ask questions, and listen deeply to create space for collaboration and learning
How to recognize your own conversational patterns and rewire your brain with intentional practice over time
Powerful Insight from Chuck Wisner:
“We love telling our stories. And we love taking action. But we often skip the middle two steps—collaboration and creativity—where true connection and possibility live.”
Whether you're navigating tough talks at work or strengthening communication at home, this episode will help you break free from default patterns and begin building conversations that are conscious, collaborative, and truly transformative.
