Mama Needs a Staycation
2022/06/22
More and more moms are finding the time to take time away! We know that mommying is a full-time job and that it can be hard to find space to reconnect with ourselves. Mom staycations (or even mom solo trips) help us recharge, reconnect, and come back home refreshed. In this episode, Devin and Sasha are talking about why mom solo trips are so important, even when our partners may not understand why.

America's Gun Problem
2022/06/08
Trigger warning for today's episode - we're discussing mass shootings and the recent school shooting. Please listen with your self-care and mental health in mind.
As mass shooting continue to happen daily, seventy percent of Americans think enacting new gun control laws should take precedence over protecting ownership rights. As parents, we continue to ask at what point do we say enough. In this episode, we're discussing the gun problem in America, the fear we have for our boys, and why we want everyone to just do better.

Managing Our Friends AND Our Mental Health
2022/04/20
If Covid has shown us anything it's that we have all probably reached the limits of what we can mentally handle at a given time. More and more Black and Brown women are understanding the importance of their mental health and tackling things like boundary setting and managing expectations with their families and friends. How do you handle your friendships when you have your own mental health struggles. Or how can you be a better friend when you know your friends are going through things. In this episode, Sasha and Devin are tackling the stigma of mental health and how to help your friends when they are struggling.

The Slap
2022/04/06
We know...you're already done hearing about it. And we are too! We promise this will be the only time you hear us talk about it. We don't normally dabble in current events, but we couldn't resist the urge to share our thoughts on "the slap heard round the world" aka all this Will Smith and Chris Rock drama.
In this episode, we're sharing lots of thoughts on everything from respectability politics, men protecting women, and the Jada hate that is simply uncalled for.

Now Entering Year 35
2021/09/15
Can you believe that we are wrapping up the THIRD season of Swirl & Sip Podcast?!
To be honest, this season is ending a little sooner than Seasons 1 and 2. You'll have to tune in to hear why. It's a little bitter-sweet.
In this episode, we're talking about LIFE! What we've been through, what we're going through, and what we hope is to come. We're both turning 35 within the next few weeks and have a lot of goals. Shara pointed out that we are now a lot closer to 40 (🤯) so we're manifesting the rest of our 30's.

Self-care for women shouldn't be optional!
As women, we care for our children, our partners, our homes; we tend to our jobs, our business, our pets, and the list goes on. We are constantly pouring into other people and other things. If you're not practicing self-care, that cup is going to run out before you know it.
We've all taken a nap or just taken a step back and felt completely guilty. But why? We need to rest and recharge. And more importantly, we DESERVE it.
You've heard this before...Self-care is NOT Selfish! This week we're talking about making self-care a priority. Take care of yourself the way you take care of your kids or clients. Do something that makes you happy. Something that makes you feel good. The more you take care of yourself, the more you will be able to show up for the people that you love and care about.

Find the Flags
2021/09/01
Whether we want to admit it or not, kids are dating a lot earlier now than when we were kids. We're discussing a pretty heavy topic that honestly, should be talked about more...Teen Dating Violence.
Even if your children are still young, and nowhere near dating age, it's important to know how to talk to your kids about teen domestic violence and for you to know how to recognize the signs.
According to the Teen Dating Violence website, "Healthy relationships require hard work, communication, and a level of maturity that may not be present in teens. As a result, many teen relationships – nearly one-third – are characterized as either unhealthy or violent."
www.teendvmonth.org
Teen dating violence is not just physical, but can also include emotional abuse, sexual abuse, and stalking. It can take place in person, or more commonly on social media. Nearly 1.5 million girls and boys have admitted to being in an unhealthy relationship. Unfortunately, teenagers are not the most forthcoming so we need to make them feel safe and comfortable with communications with us.
We are honored to be joined by Yolanda Oliver of @live_fearless_inc. Live Fearless, Inc. is not a passion project for Yolanda, it is her life journey. She is 1 in 4 women who've experienced violence in a relationship. She is the 68% of children exposed to violence in her home, not only did she survive she now thrives. Thriving did not come without struggles as Yolanda openly shares. A seed of purpose was planted in Yolanda, to serve women and children who are in crisis, fighting their way out of domestic violence situations with assistance to help them navigate through the struggles with support and resources as they journey to living withOUT fear!

Letting Our Kids Shine
2021/08/25
It's that time of year again, Back-to-School! Many of our kids are either back in school or headed to school very soon, some of them for the first time.
With COVID on the rise again, a lot of parents are also considering homeschooling their children this school year.
Though we have tried our hand at teaching our babies and toddlers, how do we nurture them to be diligent students and love learning for many years to come?
How can we turn everyday activities into opportunities for learning and growth?
We are joined by a very special guest, Da’Quisha Whitaker (@dmwhitaker_writes). Quisha is an Author, Educator, Blogger, Podcaster, and lover of all things books! And she has some answers to those questions.
D.M. Whitaker has spent ten years educating children and youth inside and outside the classroom as a former social service worker and teacher. Teaching children to be their best selves through social and functional skill enrichment, affirmations and genuine love, has always been her passion. It wasn't until she became a stay-at-home mother, that she embraced her longtime love of storytelling, and began writing stories that would help parents, teachers and caregivers teach their children in fun, educational and creative ways. She has been married to her husband, Brandon, and they have two boys, Duce, 4 and Elisha, 1. They currently reside in Nebraska.
She joined us to drop some gems and discussed how to find out your child's learning style and incorporate that in their learning inside and outside of the classroom.
Do you know your child's learning style? Have you found that they retain information better from audio, video, read/write or kinesthetic education?
