Tamiḷ sources intricately weave the narrative of Rām, presenting a diverse range of perspectives on the heroes and the timeless tale, thus contributing significantly to the rich Bharatīya tradition. From 9th Century CE onwards, sculptural and epigraphic references to Rāma temples and worship begin to appear in the Chōḷa, Pāṇḍya and Toṇḍai Maṇḍalam regions of Tamiḷ Nādu. Independent temples of Rāma were consecrated, images of Rāma were installed and endowments were provided for conducting daily rituals, worship and festivals. This devotional cult continued to develop and evolve throughout the Chōḷa period for the next two and half Centuries. Ayōdhipperumāḷ is an interesting and yet intricate research work on the first 1600 years of Rām katha traditions and Rāma worship in Tamiḷ Nādu.
