Description

Starting Over, Being You with Dr. Amen Kaur The podcast for high-achieving women who have lost themselves inside the life they built. You have achieved things most people only dream of. And somewhere along the way, you stopped recognising yourself in any of it. Not because something went wrong. Because you outgrew the version of you that started. Maybe it was a layoff. A career that ended. A role you walked away from. A life that no longer fits. Or the quiet realisation, in the middle of an ordinary Tuesday, that you don't know who you are anymore. Starting Over, Being You is the weekly podcast for women who have done all the work: the therapy, the coaching, the mindset, the books, and are still stuck. Not because they lack insight. Because the version of them that built the last chapter cannot author the next one. The one thing that cannot be automated, outsourced, or made redundant is you. The specific, irreplaceable way you operate, feel, think, lead, and make decisions. But only if you know who you are. Each week, Dr. Amen Kaur draws on the latest research in neuroscience, psychology, and human behaviour to answer the question underneath every other question: Who am I now, and what do I build from here? This is not personal development. This is identity work. It is precise, evidence-based, and built for the woman intelligent enough to know that becoming herself requires more than a new strategy. It requires a return to the self who was there before she learned to perform. If you are navigating a career transition, a layoff, a life that no longer fits, or the quiet knowing that successful and alive are not the same thing, this show was made for you. Because the woman you are becoming is not someone new. She is who you were before you learned to perform. This podcast is how you come home to her. New episodes every Wednesday. Hosted by Dr. Amen Kaur: PhD, former Partner at a FTSE 250 company in business growth, and founder of the Human Intelligence Framework. She works with women who have outgrown the version of themselves that got them here. Free Masterclass: The Human Intelligence Framework. I've Lost Myself. So Who Is in Charge Now?
2026/04/22
Send us Fan Mail "I've lost myself." Maybe you've thought it in the supermarket, the car park, or your own kitchen. This episode is the question nobody has asked you. "I've lost myself." Maybe you've thought it in your own kitchen at 9.47 on a Wednesday morning, holding a cup of tea you don't remember making. You walk upstairs to find something and forget what you came for. Something in you has been quietly slipping for a while. You're intelligent. You're capable. You've read the books. You've done the therapy. Maybe the coaching. Maybe the courses, the retreats, the breath work, the parts work. You know your patterns. And you still cannot make yourself move forward the way you used to. You're probably wondering what is wrong with you. But that's the wrong question. In this first episode of the show's new era, Dr. Amen Kaur introduces the question that actually matters. Not "what is wrong with me" but "who is in charge of my life right now?" Because the Self at the centre of your intelligence system has stepped back from the seat, and your thinking mind has stepped in to cover. It cannot. Not because you are not clever enough. Because thinking was never designed to run the whole system. Drawing on the work of Manos Tsakiris at Royal Holloway, Antonio Damasio's research on the Self as an integrator, Sarah Garfinkel and Hugo Critchley on interoception, Eckhart Tolle, and Bessel van der Kolk's neuroimaging findings on trauma and the brain, this episode names what has been happening under the surface and offers one small practice you can carry for the week. THIS EPISODE COVERS: Why the woman you used to be feels out of reach, and what is actually happening underneathThe Self as an integrator, not a place in the brain (Tsakiris, Damasio)The sun and the rays: a new way to understand your intelligence systemThe Einstein principle applied to your overthinkingThe part of you currently in charge is not your enemy. It is scared. One question to carry with you every day for the next seven days This is the first episode of the show's new era. If you have been listening for a while, welcome back. If you are new, welcome. What we do here is return, not reinvention. The full Human Intelligence Framework lives inside the free masterclass at amenkaur.com/masterclass. AI Is Advancing Fast. Are World Leaders Humane Enough to Guide It?
2026/03/10
Send us Fan Mail Artificial intelligence is advancing faster than most people ever expected. But the real question may not be whether machines become smarter. The real question is this: Are humans and especially our world leaders - humane enough to guide the intelligence we are creating? In this episode, we explore the deeper issue behind many of the challenges facing the world today. As AI accelerates and global systems shift, the real challenge may not be technology itself - but the level of human intelligence guiding it. Many people today feel overwhelmed by uncertainty, complexity, and constant change. We are more informed than ever before, yet many of us feel increasingly disconnected, reactive, and trapped in overthinking. Why? Because for generations we have been trained to rely primarily on cognitive intelligence - the ability to analyse, process information, and think logically. But in a world where AI can process information faster than any human ever could, cognition alone is no longer enough. This episode introduces the idea of Human Intelligence - a holistic form of intelligence that integrates: • Nervous system intelligence • Emotional intelligence • Intuitive intelligence • Cognitive intelligence When these forms of intelligence work together, we are able to move beyond survival-based thinking and begin making decisions that create long-term value, wiser leadership, and more humane systems. We also explore a deeper personal insight: that much of what we chase in life - success, recognition, achievement - may actually be a search for something far more fundamental. The desire to exist, to matter, and to experience being truly alive. In a world shaped by artificial intelligence, the future may not belong to those who simply think faster - but to those who develop the deeper intelligence required to guide humanity forward. In this episode you’ll learn: Why cognitive intelligence alone is no longer enough in the age of AIHow nervous system regulation affects decision-making and leadershipWhy many intelligent people feel overwhelmed or stuck todayThe four forms of intelligence that create Human IntelligenceHow developing human intelligence can help you navigate uncertainty and make wiser long-term decisionsFree Masterclass: The Human Intelligence Framework A walkthrough of the five stage method Dr Amen Kaur uses with high achieving women who have lost themselves inside a career, role or identity that no longer fits. Why One Visible Mistake Feels Like a Threat to Competent High Performers
2026/02/17
Send us Fan Mail Why do high-performers spiral after one visible mistake? If you’re competent, capable, and usually the one others rely on… a single mistake can feel disproportionate. Not because you’re fragile - but because your nervous system interprets social evaluation as threat. In this episode, with Dr Amen Kaur we unpack: Why one public mistake can trigger shame, overthinking, and loss of confidenceThe neuroscience of social-evaluative threat (prefrontal cortex, amygdala, and status perception)Why high-achievers are more vulnerable to spiraling after mistakesThe hidden link between competence, identity, and fear of judgmentWhy trying to “think your way out” often makes it worseHow regulation - not self-criticism - restores clarity and decisive actionYou’ll learn why your brain reacts so strongly to perceived status loss, why reassurance rarely fixes it, and how internal regulation is the foundation for confident leadership. This episode is for high-performers, founders, leaders, and capable women who are tired of losing momentum after one mistake and are ready to move forward without outsourcing their confidence. If this resonates, and you’re looking for a space to stabilise this process long-term, there are deeper ways to work together. 2026/02/10
Send us Fan Mail So Be It: Succeed After Survival Mode So Be It is a podcast for high-achieving women who have already survived a difficult chapter, and now feel stuck, disoriented, or unable to move forward the way they used to. If your mind knows what you want, but your body reacts with fear, shutdown, or overthinking…  If pushing, forcing, or “doing more work” no longer works…  If you’re not in crisis, but you’re no longer able to succeed the old way  This podcast is for you. Hosted by Dr Amen Kaur, So Be It explores what happens after survival mode,  when awareness is high, but momentum is gone. This podcast is built on true understanding - not fixing, motivating, or rushing you forward. Each episode explains what’s actually happening beneath the surface: why insight alone stops creating change, how the nervous system quietly guards against expansion, and how to rebuild self-trust so decisions and action become possible again. This is not a podcast about slowing down your ambition or healing forever. Nothing here assumes something is wrong with you. Instead, So Be It offers a clear, grounded framework for learning how to grow, decide, and expand from a regulated system - so success no longer requires self-abandonment, overgiving, or burnout. Why Moving Forward Feels So Hard - Even When You’re Ready
2026/02/05
Send us Fan Mail Free Gift : Click here for masterclass Why does moving forward feel so hard - even when you know you’re ready? You’re capable. You’ve proven yourself before. You have ideas, plans, and ambition. And yet, when it’s time to move, something inside you slows down. This episode with Dr Amen Kaur explores why that hesitation isn’t a mindset issue or lack of discipline - and why progress can start to feel risky even after past success. We unpack how the nervous system learns from experience, not intention. When growth has historically been followed by cost - increased demand, loss of safety, burnout, judgment, or control,  the body begins to associate success with threat. That conditioning doesn’t show up as fear of failure.  It shows up as hesitation before action. This conversation explains: Why willpower often backfires when the body expects lossHow anxiety and avoidance can be protective, not resistantWhy success isn’t neutral to the nervous systemAnd how safety, not pressure, is what allows movement to returnIf you’ve ever felt capable but stalled… ready but tense… motivated yet unable to move cleanly,  this episode will help you understand what your system is responding to, and why. No fixing. No forcing. Just clarity about what’s actually happening beneath the surface. You Think You Need More Confidence - But That’s Not the Block
2026/01/27
Send us Fan Mail Free Gift : Click here for Masterclass Ever notice the tension where you know being visible is the next step: at work, in love, or in your direction and yet something in you quietly holds back? This episode goes straight to that contradiction. The block isn’t a lack of confidence.  And it isn’t fear or self-doubt. It’s a nervous system that learned, at some point, that visibility didn’t lead to response, safety, or return, so it adapted by conserving energy. Not consciously. Automatically. We explore how attachment patterns and social environments teach systems when to offer themselves forward and when to withdraw. That withdrawal wasn’t a failure. It was intelligent. It preserved dignity and stability when expression wasn’t met. The problem is that this strategy doesn’t automatically update when life changes. You’ll hear why logic, mindset work, and “putting yourself out there” often fail here, not because they’re wrong, but because systems don’t respond to insight. They respond to conditions. This episode introduces a clear internal model:  one part of you oriented toward expansion and contribution,  and another responsible for safety and inhibition. Nothing is wrong with either part.  The tension comes from how long one has been running the system alone. Rather than pushing for visibility, we reorient toward what allows systems to stand down on their own — the conditions under which expression becomes safe again and movement resumes without force. If what you’re noticing right now isn’t urgency or excitement, but a quiet readiness a sense that you’re done being held back that’s often the signal that structure, not pressure, is what’s needed next. I’ve created a free masterclass that lays out the structure required for growth after withdrawal, not confidence training or hustle, but the conditions that allow a system to re-engage and rebuild. If that feels relevant, you’ll find it at the top of the show notes. Home Before Expansion: The Psychology of Loving Staying at Home
2026/01/22
Send us Fan Mail Click Here for Free Masterclass  What if your sudden desire to stay home isn’t avoidance, but a sign your nervous system is recalibrating? After major growth, many people experience something confusing:  you understand what happened, you’ve left high-control environments, toxic roles, or conditional relationships, and yet you feel unmoored. Socializing feels draining. Home feels safer. And you start wondering if you’re losing motivation… or losing yourself. In this episode, we unpack the psychology and biology of loving staying at home, and why this phase often appears right after you outgrow your old life - but before your next expansion. You’ll learn why: The mind can “get it” while the body is still searching for safetyLeaving power-and-control spaces disrupts belonging at a nervous-system levelMotivation doesn’t disappear - it reorganizesRelief comes before expansion (and why confusing the two keeps people stuck)Using research on belonging, nervous system regulation, attachment, and social safety, we explore why your body craves predictable rhythms, low noise, and environments where connection doesn’t require performance or self-betrayal. This conversation also maps a third path - beyond going back to the old tribe or isolating forever. We talk about low-stakes belonging: places where you can be quiet, leave early, opt out, or show up partially - so your nervous system can collect real evidence that being yourself is safe. You’ll hear a grounded reframe of success - shifting away from visibility and approval toward physiological safety, alignment, and sustainable confidence. If you’ve been judging your need for quiet…  If home has become a refuge you’re unsure how to grow beyond…  This episode offers language, relief, and permission. Home isn’t a hiding place.  It’s often the training ground. 🎧 Listen now - and if one moment created space in your chest, share it.  Your nervous system might not be the only one that needs to hear this. Why You Feel Responsible for Everyone (Is It Responsibility - or Self-Betrayal?)
2026/01/20
Send us Fan Mail Ready to move forward and change your life : Click here for FREE Masterclass Ever wonder why you jump in to fix, smooth, and stabilize before anyone even asks? In this episode, we unpack the neurobiology of over-responsibility-how a highly attuned brain and nervous system can mistake other people’s tension for a threat to your own safety. Rather than shaming the instinct to help, we examine how early somatic learning shapes this pattern. Long before conscious choice, your nervous system learned through tone of voice, silence, micro-expressions, and relational rupture that intervening reduces uncertainty. That reduction in uncertainty creates relief via dopaminergic and limbic pathways - not because stepping in is always aligned with your values, but because it temporarily restores predictability. Dr Amen Kaur will walk through the neuroscience behind this loop, including: the medial prefrontal cortex, integrating self–other representationsthe temporoparietal junction, amplifying perspective-taking and responsibility attributionthe superior temporal gyrus, decoding social meaning and implicit cuesthe anterior insula, mapping interoceptive signals and threat salienceWhen this network is chronically activated, unresolved situations register as bodily alarms. Action becomes regulation. Regulation becomes identity. Over time, the cost isn’t just fatigue - it’s stalled careers, capped earning potential, constrained leadership, and creative energy siphoned into managing other people’s emotional states. You’ll also learn how passive nonverbal control - withdrawal, disappointment, ambiguity, subtle neediness - can recruit you into action without a single request, and why guilt or anxiety spikes when you resist. These reactions aren’t moral failures; they’re predictable outputs of a sensitized regulatory system.  So its NOT YOU - its something you can unlearn somatically Finally, we pivot to change. You’ll learn a brief, neurobiologically informed pause that brings prefrontal cognition online so sensation becomes data, not command. We explore a reframing that separates responsibility from regulation, allowing boundaries to register as safety rather than threat. The Science of Making and Breaking Habits: How to Rebuild Your Life in 2026 (Without Burnout)
2026/01/15
Send us Fan Mail Interested in the Free Masterclass - Click Here  Most people think habits are about discipline, motivation, or willpower. But the real science of making - and breaking - habits has very little to do with pushing harder. It has everything to do with your nervous system. If you’re trying to rebuild your life in 2026 and the old strategies no longer work - this episode offers a different approach. In this conversation, we explore the biology of habits, why motivation disappears when your nervous system is in conflict, and how identity is rebuilt through safety, not force. This episode covers: The nervous system science behind habit formation and resistanceWhy “good habits” break down during burnout or life transitionsHow identity changes before behavior ever becomes consistentWhy small actions rewire self-trust more effectively than big goalsHow to rebuild your life in a way your body can actually sustainThis is not about habit hacks or morning routines. It’s about learning how to work with your biology, so change becomes stable, meaningful, and aligned. If you want to go deeper, I’ve created a free masterclass where I teach how to let your biology work for you - not against you - when rebuilding your life. Sending you love,  until next time. Why Your System Blocks Clarity - And How to Regain Direction Without Losing Yourself
2026/01/07
Send us Fan Mail Free Gift: Click here for Masterclass  Do you feel capable, motivated, and full of potential - but suddenly unsure of your direction? If clarity feels harder to access lately, this episode will help you understand why - and what to do instead of forcing yourself forward. Many of us were taught to rely on external authority for stability and direction: parents, teachers, bosses, relationships, roles, systems, and identities that told us who to be and how to succeed. But when those external structures stop working - through career changes, relationship shifts, identity transitions, or life disruptions - our system doesn’t experience it as “growth.” It experiences it as instability. In this episode, we explore: Why clarity and decision-making suddenly feel blockedHow external authority shaped your sense of direction and safetyWhy losing a role, relationship, or structure can trigger overwhelmHow information overload makes decisions harder, not easierWhy pushing harder, planning more, or “fixing your mindset” backfiresThe real reason capable, action-oriented people feel stuckWhy this isn’t laziness, failure, or lack of disciplineHow inner authority replaces external authority and why this matters nowWhat it actually takes to regain direction without losing yourselfThis is not motivational content.  And it’s not about forcing clarity or becoming someone new. It’s about understanding how your system works, why the old map no longer fits, and how to rebuild direction from within - in a way that’s grounded, aligned, and sustainable. 🎧 Ready for real movement? If you’re listening and thinking, “I’ve had enough of feeling stuck - I want real movement now,” I’ve created a masterclass specifically for this transition. The masterclass will help you: Understand what’s happening beneath the surfaceStop forcing clarityRebuild inner authorityMake aligned decisions and take grounded action👉 Download the masterclass  If the outside world is no longer reliable, then learning to trust yourself isn’t optional anymore - it’s essential. You’re going to be OK.
