Description

Too Many Lawyers goes beyond the headlines about laws and court cases to tell listeners what developments in the law really mean, and how the stories impact real people. The hosts are each lawyers and legal analysts, but beyond that couldn’t be more different. One, Royal Oakes, is a libertarian, baby boomer and dad, who’s been offering analysis on network radio and television for decades; the other, Connor Oakes, is a progressive millennial and son of Royal Oakes, who offers a fresh take on the legal world. TML knows what podcast listeners want to hear about, and delivers – subjects include:--- Should America embrace Pete Buttigieg’s view, legalization of every drug, from grass, to meth, to heroin?--- Should the feds be bumping the tobacco purchase age to 21?--- Can we trust Twitter and Facebook to censor political opinions?--- Your devices are spying on you – should you go through life not trusting Alexa?--- The gig economy – do laws saying everybody with a side hustle is an “employee” help, or hurt?--- Should colleges be dumping SAT and ACT tests as a tool to fight discrimination?    --- How can governments regulate “ghost guns” made by 3-D printers?--- Is facial recognition just another tool like fingerprints, or does it spell the end of privacy?--- Should Amazon face lawsuits for sales of unsafe products, when they just collect a slice as middleperson?

2026/02/19

Why the Menendez Brothers Will Never Taste Freedom
2025/09/18
The Menendez brothers gave it their best shot.  They hired super lawyer Mark Geragos, and then rode the wave of public sympathy generated by 110 million views of a pair of Netflix specials that made a lot of folks think their PARENTS were the monsters.  This week, we present the case for why in spite of all that, the brothers will likely never taste freedom.   Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. DIDDY WILL WALK
2025/07/01
The jury is deliberating the fate of hip hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs.  The government failed to convince the panel he’s a gangster, and the testimony of the victims he abused fell far short of proving sex trafficking.  Translation:  Diddy will have a smile on his face when the verdict is read.
WILL TRUMP SOMEDAY BE BREAKING BIG ROCKS INTO LITTLE ROCKS?
2025/05/29
Donald Trump’s criminal case problems may not be in his rear-view mirror.  The Stormy Daniels case is history, but the Florida, Georgia and Washington, D.C. cases could be revived after he leaves the White House.  Plus, could Trump’s pardon of a man whose mom donated $1 million to Trump days before the pardon lead to a bribery charge?     Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Sean “Diddy” Combs Goes to Trial!
2025/05/13
The prosecution says Sean Combs is a racketeer.  The defense says he’s a mean guy who’s hit some women but the sex was consensual.  Will he walk, or will he spend the rest of his life in prison?   Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
WILL THE MENENDEZ BROTHERS WALK? AND, MY MOST UNFORGETTABLE TRIAL EXPERIENCE!
2025/04/22
The Menendez Brothers have been waiting 35 years to be sprung.  They were on the brink, but now they’re back on hold for another month.  But is the handwriting on the wall?  Will you be seeing them shopping on Rodeo Drive this summer?  And, I’ll tell the story of my most unforgettable jury trial!   Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. A 3D TERM FOR TRUMP? SHORT ANSWER: NO — LONG ANSWER: HELL NO
2025/04/04
Trump is being coy about how he might be able to wind up with a third term as president. Constitutional amendment? Run as VP under JD Vance with everybody understanding JD will quit and go back to being a hillbilly? The truth: It can’t happen but talking about it can make Trump seem less like a lame duck. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See https://pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
NO, VIRGINIA, THERE IS NO CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS
2025/03/21
There’s a lot of hand-wringing going on over the idea Donald Trump’s response to some federal court orders has put us in a soup called “constitutional crisis.”  Well the soup may soon be heated up and served, but so far it’s still in Andy Warhol’s Campbell’s can.  Trump hasn’t spit in the eye of a judge yet, he’s more or less playing by the rules.  If he gets a “NO” from SCOTUS in a case and ignores them, yes, we’ll be in hot water (and Trump will probably in a trifecta – three impeachments! – and this time might be convicted).  But not yet, so everybody should take a chill pill.   Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS? WHAT CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS?
2025/03/06
Some Americans are suffering from a severe case of premature pearl-clutching.  Donald Trump may at some point trigger a constitutional crisis by defying federal court orders.  But, that hasn’t happened yet, so his critics may fall prey to “The Boy Who Cried Wolf” syndrome.  Plus, a California jury is struggling with its verdict in the case of a judge who shot his wife to death after she dared him to pull the trigger.  After the shooting he texted his bailiff to say he wouldn’t be in court the next day – he’ll be in custody. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
MARCIA CLARK LOOKS BACK AT THE OJ SIMPSON MURDER TRIAL
2025/02/07
The “trial of the century” resulted in “the worst jury verdict of the century.”  How did it happen?  What better source to consult than Marcia Clark, the lead prosecutor.  Why did a downtown LA jury vote for OJ?  And, did the DA’s office blow the case by insisting that the trial be held in downtown LA, instead of a courthouse in West LA, where the crime occurred?  Clark’s answers may shock you. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
THE DIRTY LITTLE SECRET ABOUT HOW THE DA BLEW THE OJ SIMPSON MURDER TRIAL
2025/01/22
This year is the 30th anniversary of the not guilty verdict in O.J. Simpson’s murder case.  How did a guy facing overwhelming evidence of guilt beat the rap? In this report you’ll learn how the Los Angeles County DA had a sure win if he’d just chosen to try the case in West Los Angeles, where the crime occurred.  Instead, overconfidence and a desire for a conviction by a diverse jury led the DA to commit a colossal blunder.   Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
WILL JOE BIDEN PARDON HIMSELF AND MOVE TO GREENLAND, AMERICA’S 51ST STATE?
2025/01/08
Are we in for the ultimate in irony?  Biden pardons himself, after Dems blasted a presidential self-pardon as illegal?  And if he DOESN’T pardon himself and Trump’s DOJ indicts him, he relies on SCOTUS’ “presidential immunity” decision, after Dems blasted it as wrong-headed? Plus, Canada as our 51st state is a stretch – but maybe Denmark wants to unload Greenland.  Looks like we’d need to pay a cool $1 trillion.  That’d buy a lot of pastries.
