Description

Money. Mimosas. Mythbusting. That Mint Podcast is the brainchild of Cathi Harrison (Director of The Verve Group) and Jo Campbell (Director at Para-Sols). It is also an AWARD-WINNING podcast for the 'Best Podcast - New' at the Investment Marketing and Innovation Awards 2021. Fed up of answering the same questions to people who don’t know financial services (What is a paraplanner? Do I actually need a pension? What the hell does an adviser even do?) the pair decided to create something that could pop that finance bubble, and make it a little bit more accessible to all. Bringing their years of knowledge and experience in finance, and combining it with their northern no-nonsense approach, a dash of wit, and the odd splash of wine, Cathi and Jo are bringing a fresh approach to what is often considered quite a dull industry. Listening to this podcast will help answer some of your questions, show you that finance can actually be a little bit interesting, and provide you with the occasional chuckle. Give it a listen – you won’t regret it! (Unless you’re not a fan of puns – then you’ll definitely regret it).

Episode 30 - The inevitability of death (and taxes)
2022/05/27
In this episode, Cathi and Jo consider if “middler” age is a thing, if people in the 35-45 age group really have their lives together (or is it all fake for social media posts?) and what they will be doing when they are 65. When Jo was 23, she thought her 60s would be all fish and chips and bus passes (books and libraries with added wine is the plan now) and Cathi has always looked forward to being an embarrassing elderly woman wandering around in heels with a martini in hand. It’s all about growing old disgracefully, but with a sound financial foundation! Just remember that if you want to see someone, you have to use your eyes… In a brilliant interview with our guest Phil Zeidler from life insurance provider, DeadHappy, we take a turn into ‘The Venn Diagram of Tabooness’ (thanks Jo) – namely death and money. It’s a hard subject to talk about, but DeadHappy has turned insurance on its head by talking about ‘Death Wishes’ instead of insuring a life, making the concept simple, tangible and straightforward. Who doesn’t want to have a bronze statue of themselves in the front garden after they die?
Episode 29 - Tech a chance on me
2022/04/29
We’re talking all things tech in this edition of the podcast – particularly how ubiquitous tech has become in our daily lives. Cathi and Jo (referred to collectively as the Benjamin Buttons of finance) have a look at the explosion of finance apps and how they have changed consumer behaviours, for example using Klarna for a banana (or is it a bunch, Cathi?) or using a Freetrade account app to invest directly into companies. Does this mean more gamification of financial responsibility and is it worrying that Jo hasn’t seen her bank card for months? Listen in to find out.
Episode 28 - When Cathi met Steven
2022/03/25
In 2021, we hosted our very first conference, Evolution. Our guest speaker was the amazing Steven Bartlett. Steven is the author of 'Happy Sexy Millionaire', creator of 'Diary of a CEO' podcast and the newest Dragon on Dragon's Den - and these are just a few of his achievements! In this special episode of That Mint Podcast, we listen back to Steven's session from Evolution. It's full of surprises and important questions from Cathi - such as 'is a hotdog a sandwich?'.
Episode 27 - What are you saving for?
2022/03/01
Welcome to episode 27! In this episode, we learn all about Jo’s year of experiences and Cathi finds an article saying 2/3 of people’s Covid savings have been spent, which starts a conversation about what saving is actually for - or what spending is good for. Listen out for a voice usually behind the scenes, as our producer, Mark, checks in with Naina and her house-buying journey and find out why she was left feeling gazumped... oh the drama! Our guest in this episode is Graham Taylor from Hudson Rose, who tells us all about he 'fell into finance' and his quest of changing the perception of the mortgage advisory industry one colourful mohawk at a time. To finish up, Jo and Cathi play the alphabet game in a marathon Quid Game.
Episode 26 - Living longer, mortgages and NFTs
2022/01/28
In this episode, we're joined by Hannah Phillips, a 25 year old freelancer in television and media. Cathi and Jo talk to Hannah about the difficulties in budgeting when a freelancer – and how it can affect getting a mortgage. A discussion about the differences between working on Geordie Shore and a documentary about the Duchess of Northumberland leads to Jo wondering if the Duchess is single… There is also a very interesting story about [REDACTED] who ended up [REDACTED]!! The news that babies born in 2022 will have an average life expectancy of around 90 odd years has Cathi and Jo thinking. What age do they think they will make it to? What will they be doing? How much will a Freddo cost by then?! Listen as they brainstorm some ideas for creating recurring income to top up their pensions – how hard is it to write a Christmas song anyway?
Episode 25 – What does inflation IRL mean for me?
2021/12/17
Inflation is a hot topic right now, as this episode was released it had just jumped up to 5.1% - but what does that actually mean for you? Cathi and Jo delve into inflation and the impact it has on everyone. They also cover 'skimpflation' (yeah we hadn't heard of it either!). Plus, we hear from Naina, who's recently embarked on the journey to buying her first home. Cathi and Jo go through the process with Naina and ask her for top tips when it comes to purchasing your first home, whilst asking the question: is renting a waste of money?

Summer holidays have finally arrived, which means vacancies for summer jobs are now available and Cathi and Jo take a trip down memory lane and chat about what jobs they did when they were younger (you would have never guessed them).
