Guys, we made it. Oscars season is finally over. Kat & Marc react to Hollywood’s biggest night. They discuss mixed production results, great wins, Kat takes a moment to slander “The Departed”, and Marc reassesses his opinion on Michael B. Jordan. 

Before Hollywood’s biggest night, Kat & Marc give their Oscars picks. Also, they dive deep into the polarizing “The Bride!” by trying to get a handle on Maggie Gyllenhaal’s sprawling vision and Jessie Buckley’s big performance. However, they are pleasantly surprised by getting another amazing Frankenstein for the second year in a row. 

Paramount Skydance purchase of Warner Bros. Discovery has serious ramifications and, if you are a cinephile or not, you should be deeply concerned. Kat & Marc discuss why the merger is alarming.  Also, the gang reviews a befuddling “Scream 7”. They breakdown Kevin Williamson’s director chops, mailed-in performances (eek, Neve!) and revising their rankings of the “Scream” movies. Black History Month ends with a bang! Kat & Marc review prominent but overlooked (and undersold) 2024 films “Sing Sing” and “Nickel Boys”. But first, we start with the John Davidson BAFTAs incident and Marc decides which Best Picture nominees Kat should actually watch. 

In the six years of We Should Do This Again Sometime, Spike Lee is the most covered director. Kat & Marc finally review Lee’s boldest and most daring film “Bamboozled”. Conversely, the gang touches on his most commercial release “Inside Man”. While discussing the crime thriller, the conversation steered into discussing the beauty standards of Hollywood today. 

Kat & Marc discuss Emerald Fennel’s last film “Wuthering Heights”: is it the flop of the year or simply misunderstood? Read Kat’s review on Kat Sees Movies and Marc’s review on Hue Watched It. Also, keeping to the theme of the season, the gang reviews the hilarious “Zola” (30:24) and nihilistic “Tahara” (54:35). 

Marc & returning guest Jamila Brown discuss the short but potent career of writer-director-producer Kathleen Collins. The pair talk about how a director with only two films made a lasting impact on a generation of filmmakers.

Kat & Marc return and dive into the latest James Cameron epic “Avatar: Fire and Ash”. Also, they wonder about the future of the “Avatar” franchise and Cameron’s next film, “Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft - The Tour (Live in 3D)”. (Yes, that’s the title.)

Kat & Marc each give their ten favorite films of the century (plus a little bit extra). It’s less science, more vibes. 

To close out the year, Marc talks to Candice Frederick (@ReelTalker), Kazmo (@heykazmo), Jamila Brown (@wildcattinwow), and Amber Nicole (@ambular_93) about Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest film “One Battle After Another”.
