Headline: SOMETIMES THE BEST PLANS GET COMPLETELY DERAILED! 🚂💥 I was mapping out our weekly post, but after listening back to this week's show, Concetta Rosa Maria Franconero—aka the LEGENDARY Connie Francis—completely hijacked my brain! 🤯 If you don't know her stats, brace yourself: Connie sold over 200 MILLION records worldwide! 🌍 She was the FIRST female singer to ever hit #1 on Billboard's Top 100, and she scored THREE #1 hits before any other female artist even got close. 👑🎤 🎙️ The Ultimate Accidental Hit: Here’s the wild part. During her final MGM recording session, after 8 songs completely flopped, she was asked to record a 1923 track called "Who's Sorry Now". She flat-out REFUSED! She fought with her dad and deliberately stalled, hoping to run out the studio clock. It didn't work. She recorded the song in the final leftover minutes and packed her bags, ready to leave music behind to accept a 4-year medical scholarship to NYU. 🩺🏫 📺 The Dick Clark Surprise: Fast forward to the New Year. She’s watching "The Dick Clark Show", feeling a little envious when he announces he's about to introduce a "new female singer." Imagine her SHOCK when Dick Clark started playing HER song! In just two months, it sold over a MILLION copies. So much for NYU! 🚀 Connie passed away last July at 87, and as ABSURD as it sounds, she is STILL NOT in the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame!! 🤬 I could write ten more posts about her—from her dad forbidding her true love with Bobby Darin, to the unbelievable real-life tragedies she survived. 🚛 BREAKER, BREAKER 19! THE CB DOCTOR IS IN THE HOUSE! 📻 Anybody remember CB radios?! Back in the day, I ran a store for truckers down in El Paso for Petro Truck Stops. 🌵 Those cabs were the ultimate source of communication, and sayings like "Breaker Breaker 19, it’s the Regal Beagle!" rang out all over the fuel islands and the parking lot. Let me tell you, that truck stop parking lot was like the WILD WEST—a complete city unto itself! 🤠🏜️ 🩺 THE CB DOCTOR: I knew absolutely NOTHING about CBs when I took over the store, so I called in a massive favor from my buddy Neil Waxman, commander of Coronado CB. The massive roadside sign was highly valuable real estate, and I got the OK to use it on Saturdays. We threw up a message that said: "THE CB DOCTOR IS IN THE HOUSE!" We had a line out the door! 🤯 Neil sold a TON of CBs, and we drove plenty of business right into the store. HUGE shout out to Neil—he totally SAVED MY BACON! 🥓🙌 🕊️ REMEMBERING A LEGEND: I was actually thinking about the great John Denver today as I played Take Me Home, Country Roads. It is hard to believe it will be 30 YEARS next October since we lost him when his experimental plane crashed less than 100 yards from shore. These ladies completely SHATTERED box office records on tour across Detroit, Chicago, Cincinnati, Los Angeles, Atlantic City, Miami, and even played for a massive crowd of 11,000 in Kansas City! 🏟️ Sadly, they never got the media love they deserved back then, and it took 50 YEARS for them to be truly appreciated. 🤯 9 YEARS OF RADIO WILDER: FROM A SIMPLE IDEA TO 10,000 HOURS! 📻✨ Checking out the music for this week’s show, I was struck by The Yardbirds' track Happenings Ten Years Time Ago. It really got me thinking... ten years ago, I hadn’t even seriously considered creating an audio leave-behind for my daughter! Fast forward to today, and as we approach our massive 9th Anniversary on September 24th, it is truly HARD TO BELIEVE what this journey has become! 🎉 📻 THE ORIGIN STORY: Fun fact: I originally wanted the name ‘Wilder Radio’, but it wasn’t available. So, we launched as Radio Wilder—and today, I wouldn’t change it for the world! 🌍 The original goal was maybe 6 to 8 hours of audio, splitting the playlist between my favorite songs and hers. The reality? We now have between 9,000 to 10,000 HOURS recorded! 🤯 About 75% of those tracks are mine, and the rest come directly from YOU GUYS, our incredible listeners! That is SO COOL! 🙌 🌍 A WORLDWIDE FAMILY: Because of this show, I now have friends all over the globe and have even been invited to stay at the home of one of our absolute favorite bands!
