The Power of Followership: Building Leaders at Every Level w/Jeremy Carter & Emma Hatcher
2026/07/14
Step into the world of leadership transformation and dynamic team culture with this electrifying episode of The Cory Lee Show. Host Cory Lee opens the door to a riveting discussion, inviting listeners to journey deep into the heart of what it means to be an impactful follower—and a transformative leader. Joined by the insightful Emma Hatcher and passionate performance expert Jeremy Carter, the episode unfolds like a narrative of discovery, suspense, and empowerment.
It all begins with a chance connection—a fateful intersection at an executive retreat—that linked Cory Lee to Emma Hatcher, a storyteller and editor par excellence. Their collaboration on four best-selling books set the stage for this remarkable alliance, later extending to the dynamic Jeremy Carter, president of True Performance Realization.
From the very start, listeners are drawn into a candid, thought-provoking dialogue. The trio explores the untold power of followership—a concept too often overshadowed by the cult of leadership. Through compelling metaphors, hard-earned wisdom, and personal stories, they chart the intricate terrain of organizational dynamics: from the hidden dangers of "no-go" followers to the heights of mutual trust and partnership.
With each moment, the conversation brims with urgency and relevance. Jeremy Carter's voice, forged by two decades in human performance, crackles with passion as he deconstructs the vital distinction between passive following and active followership. Emma Hatcher peels back the layers, revealing how humility and ambition can coexist, and why courage—sometimes expressed by speaking up or stepping out—is the DNA of healthy teams. Meanwhile, Cory Lee anchors the exploration with real-life leadership challenges, offering listeners both inspiration and practical tools for growth.
Every exchange is vivid, every insight a potential turning point. Whether you’re a seasoned leader, a hungry learner, or a quietly ambitious team member, this episode reads like an epic—charged with hard truths, hope, and the promise of genuine transformation.
1. Followership Is Leadership
The episode smashes the misconception that only those at the top drive change. Jeremy Carter powerfully reframes the discussion: true followers are leaders who influence in all directions—up, down, and sideways 00:06:13. This realization can revolutionize your workplace, making every voice count in shaping a winning culture.
2. Levels of Followership: Know the Terrain
A vivid metaphor unfolds as Jeremy Carter maps out "no-go," "slow-go," and "go" followers 00:30:55. Recognizing these archetypes—sabotage-prone saboteurs, clock-watching employees, and high-trust partners—arms you with the clarity to build teams that soar (and weed out toxic behaviors before they wreak havoc).
3. Healthy Teams Require Courage (and Accountability)
Emma Hatcher brings raw honesty and personal experience, illustrating that sometimes the most loyal act is to challenge, dissent, or even leave when a leader goes astray 00:24:10. Real followership isn’t about passive compliance—it’s about standing up for principles, for yourself and for what’s right.
4. Initiative Over Passivity
The difference between passive employees and catalytic followers is sharp: true followers don’t just clock in and check out 00:28:00. They add creative energy, seek solutions, and take shared ownership of results. This is where organizations find the momentum for lasting transformation.
5. The Two-Way Power of Mentorship and Partnership
The journey from apprentice to partner is more than career progression—it’s a relationship built on mutual respect, investment, and accountability 00:51:54. When mentees succeed, mentors thrive; when both sides hold each other accountable, the entire team rises.
This episode isn’t just a podcast—it’s a playbook for those ready to reimagine their roles as both followers and leaders, and it’s delivered with heart, humor, and wisdom you’ll want to revisit again and again.

Fear Factor: Defeating The Giants that Hold You Back
2026/07/06
In this empowering episode of The Cory Lee Show, Corey Lee delves into the topic of fear and how it impacts our lives, leadership, and potential. Titled "Fear Factor," the episode opens with Cory Lee introducing his new book, "Leading with Insight: 31 Days of Wisdom for Leaders, Volume 2," and sharing his hope that listeners not only gain information but also encounter transformation through wisdom and revelation.
Drawing from personal experiences, including a family vacation at the beach and a vivid story about his daughter's initial reluctance to go parasailing, Coryartfully illustrates how fear often holds us back from stepping into deeper waters—both literally and metaphorically. He challenges listeners to examine their own fears, referencing the top phobias reported by the National Institute of Mental Health and encouraging a shift from fear-based "what ifs" to possibility-driven mindsets.
Through real-life examples, sports analogies, and readings from his book "Champion," Cory unpacks the three major "giants" that often keep us from greatness: doubt, disappointment, and fear. He inspires his audience to confront and reframe these inner obstacles not as permanent barriers, but as opportunities for growth and courage.
In the episode's inspiring conclusion, Coryreaffirms that failure is not fatal nor does it define who we are. Instead, he proclaims that champions are those who dare to move forward despite fear, refuse to settle for complacency, and strive to use every ounce of their God-given potential. Listeners are encouraged to focus on what they can achieve, to place their faith in positive outcomes, and to look to spiritual strength in overcoming fear.
## 5 Key Takeaways
1. **Fear can be both real and imagined—but its grip is often strongest in our thoughts.**
- Cory discusses how fear, whether rooted in genuine danger or just in our imagination, can keep us "ankle deep" in life instead of experiencing it fully ([03:00](/timestamps/180)).
2. **Champions focus on possibilities, not failures.**
- Instead of dwelling on the potential for mistakes, true champions direct their energy toward making impactful plays and achieving goals ([07:09](/timestamps/429)).
3. **Doubt, disappointment, and fear are the three 'giants' that must be conquered to realize your potential.**
- Cory shares practical ways to identify and overcome these common obstacles, emphasizing the importance of self-belief, learning from setbacks, and reframing fear ([09:32](/timestamps/572)).
4. **Reframe your "what ifs" from fear-based to possibility-based thinking.**
- Shifting from negative imaginings to positive potential leads to growth and new experiences, as seen in personal stories from Corey Lee's family ([05:32](/timestamps/332)).
5. **You have not been given a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.**
- Drawing on spiritual truths, Cory encourages listeners to trust in their God-given abilities and destiny, urging them to never let fear dictate their actions or limit their impact ([16:37](/timestamps/997)).
This episode is a clarion call to cut ties with fear, pursue your purpose boldly, and step into life's deep waters with courage and faith.

The discussion centers around Andy's profound personal transformation—from growing up in a Buddhist household, struggling with addiction and depression, to experiencing a life-changing encounter with Christ on Easter Sunday 2023.
Listeners are taken on Andy's journey as he candidly recounts the deep sense of loss and suffering that preceded his conversion, the challenges of leading a business through crisis, and the huge shift that occurred when he began to seek wisdom and guidance from a higher source rather than relying solely on his own instincts. The conversation explores themes of faith, leadership, accountability, fasting, and the pursuit of a meaningful life. Andy shares powerful moments of vulnerability and growth, encouraging others to find peace and clarity by putting God at the center of their lives and leadership.
The episode is both practical and inspirational, offering hope to anyone facing challenges, questioning their purpose, or seeking a deeper spiritual foundation in business and daily life.
5 Key Takeaways
True Transformation Begins with Surrender
Andy Bui shares how his lowest point of depression and business crisis led him to surrender control and seek spiritual help, resulting in a complete turnaround in his life and leadership (06:02-08:44).
Peace is the Evidence of Spiritual Discernment
Both Cory and Andy emphasize that genuine peace, not chaotic emotions, is a sign of being aligned with God’s will—a vital guide for making decisions in life and business (14:23-17:24).
Leadership Rooted in Accountability and Prayer
After his transformation, Andy leads his business with accountability and seeks God’s wisdom in every decision, marking a drastic shift from self-reliance to a leadership style founded on prayer and discernment (12:24-13:31).
Fasting as a Practice of Selflessness and Intimacy with God

Courage Means No Longer Denying One’s Faith
The conversation about Andy Bui's book title, The Courage to Live a Meaningful Life, uncovers his realization that true courage is about no longer denying Christ—living authentically and unashamedly in one’s faith regardless of past beliefs or outside pressures (38:08-39:02)

Spurgeon’s 1872 Sermon: The Called Out Ones
2026/05/18
In this powerful and contemplative episode of The Cory Lee Show, Cory Lee takes a unique approach by reading in full Charles Spurgeon's classic sermon, "A Call to Holy Living," originally delivered on January 14, 1872, at the Metropolitan Tabernacle. The episode opens with Corey sharing a personal anecdote about discovering a collection of Spurgeon’s sermons in a Bible story museum bookstore—an experience that inspired this heartfelt reading.
The message dives deeply into faith, integrity, and the tangible expression of Christian values, urging listeners to examine how their lives reflect their beliefs. Spurgeon's stirring words, brought to life by Cory, challenge the audience not to settle for average, but to strive for a holiness and love that genuinely set them apart: "What do you do more than others?" The episode inspires authenticity, devotion, and a life of impact, reminding believers that true faith must be demonstrated through consistent, Christ-like living.
5 Key Takeaways
Justification and Holiness Go Hand in Hand
Faith alone justifies, but authentic faith must produce the fruits of righteousness. As Cory reads, Spurgeon emphasizes that “sanctification must not be forgotten or overlaid by justification”—holy living is the evidence of true faith (02:29).
Christians Are Called to a Higher Standard
The episode underscores that believers are not only expected to match moral standards of society, but to exceed them. They “profess more,” “have more,” and should therefore “do more than others” (06:43). Genuine faith must be matched by an exemplary life that stands as a beacon to the world.
Faith Must Be Visible in Action
Merely claiming Christianity is insufficient—Spurgeon calls it a “felony against God” if one’s actions do not align with one’s profession of faith (08:19). The world, church, and Christ expect a demonstration of renewed character, integrity, and love.
Holiness Is Empowered By the Spirit, Not Human Strength
Cory highlights, both through Spurgeon’s words and his own reflection, that living a pure and holy life is not achievable by willpower alone. It is possible through the strength and enabling of the Holy Spirit (45:12), making extraordinary love and purity attainable.
Love and Good Works Are the Greatest Evidence
The sermon and episode culminate in the call for believers to excel in love, generosity, and practical care for others (39:29). Selflessness, honesty, purity, and consistent benevolence are presented as hallmarks of those truly led by Christ. This episode is a stirring call to action—asking every listener to examine their own walk and pursue a life that both honors God and transforms the culture around them.

## 5 Key Takeaways from this Episode
1. Mindset Shapes Performance:
You will never outperform your own self-image. Shifting your focus—from fear of failure to visualizing success—directly impacts your energy and outcomes.
2. Consistency is the “Boring Key” to Success:
Small, daily disciplines compound over time. Trophies aren’t handed out for the process, but sustainable success comes from what you do behind the scenes.
3. Champion Others to Become a True Champion:
True leaders believe in others before those people might believe in themselves. Investing in the growth of those around you leads to significance, not just success.
4. Attitude is a Choice and a Superpower:
You can’t control what others say or do, but you always control your attitude and response. Maintaining a positive, proactive mindset helps you thrive under pressure.
5. Evaluate and Evolve Through Failure:
Failure isn’t your enemy—avoiding growth is. Champions view failure as data for improvement, reflecting on what to change and when it’s time to adapt or pursue new seasons.

Why Silence, Suffering, and Faith Shape Great Leaders w/Robert DeLaurentis
2026/02/04
What happens when success no longer satisfies—and you realize there’s more you’re being called to?
In this powerful episode of The Cory Lee Show, Cory sits down with Robert DeLaurentiis, known around the world as The Peace Pilot—an aviation circumnavigator, Navy Gulf War veteran, author, philanthropist, and global ambassador for peace. Robert has flown solo across all seven continents, over both poles, through 53 countries, carrying scientific missions for NASA and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography—yet his greatest journey has been an inward one.
Robert shares the moment everything shifted: a quiet walk in a park that awakened him to the reality that achievement without awareness can leave you disconnected from purpose. From that moment, he began listening—deeply—and what followed was a life marked by radical obedience, faith-filled risk, and an unwavering commitment to something bigger than himself.
Throughout the conversation, Cory and Robert explore:
How to recognize when God is stirring something new within you
Why silence, stillness, and listening are essential for clarity and direction
The connection between faith, persistence, and resilience
What endurance—whether in business, life, or extreme adventures—reveals about who we’re becoming
Why giving more is often the key to receiving more
How failure, suffering, and discomfort shape us for future impact
Practical wisdom for getting off the sidelines when fear or finances feel like barriers
Robert also recounts harrowing moments from his polar circumnavigation—fuel spraying into the cockpit, life-or-death decisions, and the realization that the mission mattered more than his own safety. These stories become profound metaphors for leadership, sacrifice, and trusting God in uncertainty.
This episode is a reminder that you were created for more than comfort, that faith often requires movement, and that the most meaningful breakthroughs happen when we’re willing to listen—and then act.
If you’ve ever felt a quiet nudge, wrestled with fear, or questioned whether it’s worth taking the risk…this conversation is for you.CONNECT WITH ROBERT

Unencumbered: Are We Busy or is it All A Lie?
2026/01/07
Welcome to The Cory Lee Show! In this episode, Cory returns after a break and explains how a 40-day “brainwash fast” helped him recognize the constant distractions in daily life. He cut out social media, books, podcasts, and most entertainment, allowing just the Bible and worship music. The aim was to silence outside noise and discover what was really shaping his thoughts and habits.
One unexpected benefit was improved sleep, as his mind wasn’t so rushed and overstimulated. Cory and his family also realized how much time they spent just keeping busy—even when it wasn’t necessary. The fast revealed how easy it is to be distracted, and how we often fill downtime with things like social media, trading, or games just to keep our minds occupied.
He reflects on the meaning of the word "entertain,” noting it literally means “to hold your mind,” which can often just be a distraction. Cory highlights the importance of evaluating experiences rather than just living them, drawing on biblical examples like Hebrews 12 to encourage listeners to lay aside distractions—anything that pulls attention from their purpose.
A key lesson was recognizing that personal worth isn’t defined by constant activity or productivity. During the fast, Cory wrestled with feelings of frustration and worthlessness when he wasn’t busy, realizing how deep-rooted this thinking can be. He encourages listeners to see value in simply being present with God, instead of always “doing.”
Several personal stories punctuate the episode, including Cory's experience officiating his first wedding and funeral in the same week. He shares how stepping outside his comfort zone and intentionally connecting with others allowed new opportunities for encouragement and prayer—even when outcomes weren’t what he expected.
A powerful takeaway from this season is the call to remove “encumbrances”—even good things that become distractions—so you can stay focused on faith and purpose. Cory shares a vivid dream highlighting how easy it is to become a disengaged follower, distracted by the noise around us instead of seeking God’s presence.
He closes by reminding listeners that when God reveals things in our hearts, it’s not for shame, but for healing. Cory encourages you to evaluate your own distractions, lay them down, and return your focus to what matters most.
Thanks for tuning in—and if you enjoyed this episode or have a story to share, reach out and stay connected for more of The Cory Lee Show!

Behind the Smiles: The Truth About People Pleasing and Toxic Relationships w/Kris Reece
2025/09/24
In this insightful episode of The Cory Lee Show, host Cory Lee dives deep into the critical topic of toxic relationships, leadership, and boundary-setting with expert guest Kris Reese. Kris is an accomplished author, toxic relationship coach, manipulation tactics specialist, and the newly released author of "Breaking the Narcissist’s Grip."
Cory and Kris begin the episode by exploring Kris’s personal journey—how early relationship wounds led her to create unhealthy boundaries as a form of self-protection, eventually impacting every aspect of her life. Kris shares how her transformation began, moving from the fitness industry to becoming a coach and counselor specializing in helping people of faith break free from controlling and manipulative relationships.
Key themes and topics discussed include:
Identifying Toxic Relationships in Leadership and Personal Life: Kris outlines how toxic patterns often originate from childhood experiences, including toxic parenting, but can manifest in any relationship—be it with a boss, partner, coworker, or even within the church.
Recognizing Manipulation and Spiritual Distortion: The episode uncovers how manipulation can appear both overt and covert, manifesting as gaslighting, entitlement, and subtle control tactics often missed by victims.
Practical Steps to Setting Boundaries: Kris introduces her five leadership laws of boundaries, a biblically-based approach that empowers leaders to protect their vision, energy, and teams. She emphasizes that establishing boundaries is not only biblical but necessary for healthy leadership.
Navigating Narcissism in Faith-Based Spaces: Conversing about specific scenarios — such as working under a narcissistic leader or being the leader at risk of developing narcissistic tendencies — Kris and Cory discuss how to prayerfully self-examine motives and communicate effectively.
People Pleasing and Codependency: Kris reveals how people-pleasers attract takers, leading to burnout, and how codependency undermines personal calling. She gives actionable advice for recovering people-pleasers and aspiring strong leaders.
Biblical Foundation for Boundaries: Through scriptural references and personal experience, Kris shows that Jesus modeled healthy boundaries, walking away from dysfunction and understanding His calling intimately.
Distinguishing Manipulation from Honor: The episode concludes with Kris clarifying how true honor creates freedom while manipulation cages—an essential distinction for church and business leaders alike.
Special Features:
Kris’s free Narcissist Survival Guide and how to connect with her via her website and book link.
Real-life scenarios and role-played advice tailored for both those under toxic leadership and those at risk of slipping into narcissistic leadership patterns themselves.

Transforming Ideas into Impact w/Matt Granados
2025/09/10
Get ready for an action-packed episode of The Cory Lee Show as host Cory Lee sits down with peak performance strategist, two-time #1 bestselling author, and founder of LifePulse Inc., Matt Granados.
If you’re a leader, entrepreneur, high-achieving professional, or anyone seeking sustainable growth and a thriving company culture, this deep-dive is a must-listen!
In This Episode:
Matt Granados shares his incredible journey from building a $40 million sales team from Craigslist hires to coaching elite performers at organizations like Google, Twitter, and the U.S. Air Force. Matt pulls back the curtain on the game-changing systems and strategies he created after realizing that sustainable growth isn’t just about hard work—it’s about intentional ownership and having the right systems in place.
You'll learn:
Matt’s 9 Essential Weekly Questions: Discover the powerful set of nine questions Matt uses to bring clarity, focus, and fulfillment to both his personal and professional life. Find out how these questions transformed his marriage, his team’s productivity, and major Fortune 50 company cultures.
The Power of Reverse Planning: Learn why most productivity methods are backward and how to use Matt’s reverse planning technique for higher levels of fulfillment, rather than just survival mode.
Creating Systems for Ideas: If you’re a visionary with a million ideas (and a little bit of shiny object syndrome), Matt’s quarterly “Nurture vs. Create” framework and actionable processes will help you stay focused without losing your creative edge.
Breaking Down Motivation & Culture: Matt offers actionable advice for leaders struggling to motivate their teams and build a strong company culture—highlighting why intention and structure beat out short-lived hype every time.
Structure = Freedom: Counterintuitive to many, Matt and Cory uncover how real freedom and peace for leaders actually come from the right balance of structure and rhythm—not chaotic, seat-of-your-pants decision-making.
Serving Different Company Sizes: Whether you’re a solopreneur, a family business, or managing a global enterprise, hear Matt explain how the same core truths about ownership, sustainable growth, and leadership development apply at every level.
Optimizing Personal Growth: Uncover why “external” solutions have their limitations and why next-level leaders need to focus more on “internal” work—bridging the gap from conviction to correction without falling into shame or condemnation.
Practical Tools: Explore Matt’s unique pen-and-paper LP Planner system, how to use the Eisenhower Matrix for daily prioritization, and the “Plan Tomorrow Today” habit that leverages the Zeigarnik effect to massively improve focus and reduce overwhelm.
PLUS: Matt vulnerably shares the personal turning points that inspired his systems—including business struggles, health scares, and walking through his daughter’s rare medical challenges. He reveals why focusing on the “80% you can control” is crucial for handling life’s toughest 20%.
