Braden started testing more materials on the fiber laser, has to customize a sledgehammer for a client,  Questions: Greg Platt Valley Woodworks I have been using boiled linseed oil on my cedar bird houses and other spring items for market.The instructions tell me to mix two parts mineral spirits to one part linseed oil. I did it with my first products, but skipped it the last few items. Now I mixed it again and I think it helps to richen the color more. When I didn't mix I got a dull finish that looks good, but isn't a rich in color. Is it because the mineral spirits thins the oil down and it can penetrate better? Or am I just a crazy old dirty hoe lover? Trash Valley Panda I am teaching architecture to high school students and interior design is part of the course and I like to assign a cardboard furniture challenge. Like making a chair from Amazon boxes etc. I want to kick it up a notch. What kind of furniture build would you want to see made from cardboard? What would wow you? It’s never been my thing. It either comes off as very generic or haphazard. Do any of you follow any simple rules on your social media posts that you consistently follow? For example: on Instagram stories, you always use a particular font, color and background color that stands out while limiting word count. You never post yourself doing menial tasks like sanding. You only post finished projects as posts while stories contain mid project updates. I’ll try to convince the client to go with a hardwood. I’m not against pine, but it’s not my first choice (probably last - but it has its place). I mainly use Windsor Plywood or Kingma Lunber Masters in Edmonton for my hardwood. Kingma has some good prices on 4/4 material. I’ll see what the client says. If I have to eat a few dollars, I’ll rack it up as a lesson.  Is 4/4 material thick enough for an ottoman table? After some back and forth, I sent them a quote in November. Since then, it’s been radio silence until today. Is there any red flags here? The ottoman table shouldn’t be too hard they opted for pine with mitred corners. They provided the measurements of their existing ottoman. Kinda leaning towards the CNC. I have a 2 car garage for my shop, I’m looking at smaller units, like a bambu P1S or A1, 30”x48” CNC. The 3D printer would probably be used for personal stuff and maybe some production work and the CNC and laser would be for production work and customer orders.  Next question. I’m looking at going in new direction this year. Cutting boards and charcuterie boards have been a tough sale in my area, there’s lots of competition. I’m looking at going into tables and custom furniture and maybe jumping into YouTube. Do you have any tips on how to market myself and get my name out there? My clientele has mostly been friends, family and co-workers at my full time job.
