05. How to Find a Therapist (Therapy 101)
2022/05/09
What do you do when life comes at you from all directions?
Where do you turn when it seems like you don't know up from down?
Therapy 101: In this episode, Chris and Seth talk with Kaye Loni Shields, MS, LMFT about finding a therapist.
For many of us, talking to a therapist can be a useful and beneficial tool to use in order to process everything that is going on, gain clarity, and learn tools to take the next step. However, finding the right therapist can often feel like a daunting task. In fact, it can be overwhelming- so much so that many of us will often quit before we even get started.

63. How to be Sick with Paul Matthew Harrison (Trauma Trials)
2021/07/03
In this episode of Mental Podcast, Seth has a discussion with Paul Matthew Harrison. Paul is the author of Deconversions: My Journey Through Evangelical Christianity, God Told Me To Marry You, and All the Clever Words on Pages: Part I and II. Seth has previously interviewed Paul for a different show and brought him to discuss his experience involving chronic physical illness.
Paul describes how a diagnosis of Mono eventually led to a diagnosis of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome as doctors were unable to find the cause. This fatigue was then followed by overwhelming pain and was subsequently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia.
Paul explores how his dual diagnosis impacts his day to day life and outlook on life. From relationships to planning events, Paul's entire world revolves on how much energy he can or can not exert. The mental health impact of these symptoms is then explored; from depression to isolation. Towards the end, Paul explores how he has learned to find meaning in the small things.

62. Dying Out Loud with Dave Warnock (Trauma Trials)
2021/06/26
TRIGGER WARNING - This podcast episode contains information about suicide and assisted dying which may be upsetting to some people.
In this episode of Mental Podcast, Michelle and Seth banter and then launch into mental minutes. Michelle will be driving across the country soon and is of course, deep into body building prep. Seth provides updates on his hunt for a trauma therapist as well as a recent neurology appointment.
*Michelle and Seth provide a brief overview of the interview and provide a disclaimer regarding the subject of Assisted Dying and Suicide. While the guest you're about to hear is focused on living life to the fullest now, he experiences a terminal physical illness which will slowly decrease his quality of life so suicide may be a way to end his suffering in the last days.
Dave Warnock was diagnosed with a terminal chronic physical illness called ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). He was given the diagnosis and told he has 3-5 years left to live in February of 2019. Subsequently, he began a campaign called "Dying Out Loud" and had been traveling the world. Dave is actively trying to make the most of the time he has left rather than be consumed with grief. Seth and Dave discuss the toll and impact of ALS is having on his body, emotions and mental health.
Dave is focusing on "living life to the fullest" rather than spending it simply "trying to stay alive." Dave has previously been on a podcast tour and traveled the world (prior to the pandemic) spreading his message of strength and hope even in the face of dire circumstances..
