Walking Above the Trees! Capilano Suspension Bridge Adventure in Vancouver, Canada || E140
2026/10/04
Come along with us as they head into the beautiful forests of North Vancouver, Canada, to experience the famous Capilano Suspension Bridge!First built in 1889, the Capilano Suspension Bridge stretches 450 feet across the Capilano River and hangs about 230 feet above the canyon. But crossing the bridge is only the beginning of this adventure. We explore the incredible Treetops Adventure, walk along the dramatic Cliffwalk, discover the surrounding rainforest, and talk about why Capilano is such a memorable way for kids and adults to experience nature together. We also share some of the things that impressed us beyond the attractions: the beautiful and well-maintained grounds, welcoming atmosphere, convenient transportation options—including complimentary shuttle service from downtown Vancouver—and helpful visitor amenities.
We even appreciated being able to arrange luggage storage during our visit, something traveling families may want to ask about when planning their own trip. And don't rush out after crossing the bridge! We'll talk about the impressive gift shop, places to grab something to eat, and why simply slowing down and enjoying the forest is part of the experience. One of our favorite things about Capilano is that this isn't an adventure reserved only for young thrill-seekers. We saw generations of families exploring together. Kids, parents, grandparents and even great-grandparents can make Capilano part of a Vancouver family adventure, although every visitor should consider their own mobility and comfort with heights before crossing.
Most importantly, this episode asks a bigger question: Why does spending time in nature matter?Sometimes an adventure doesn't need a roller coaster or a screen. It can simply be your family standing together above a beautiful Canadian rainforest, looking down at a river and realizing just how incredible our natural world can be.

Our First Alaska Fishing Adventure! Salmon, Cod & an Amazing Captain || E138
2026/09/20
What happens when you go fishing for the very first time—and your first fishing trip happens to be in Ketchikan, Alaska?Join us as we reflect on an unforgettable adventure on the waters of Southeast Alaska! During our Alaska journey, we had the opportunity to head out from Ketchikan on a fishing excursion arranged through our Disney Cruise experience. But Disney is only the beginning of this story.
The real adventure was getting onto a fishing boat, learning the basics and discovering just how much patience, skill and respect for nature go into catching a fish. One of the highlights was our amazing female captain, who showed us that being a great captain isn't about whether you're a man or a woman—it's about knowledge, leadership, experience, safety and knowing the water. For a young person experiencing fishing for the first time, having someone patiently teach you what to do can make the entire experience unforgettable.
We talk about the fun experience and what it feels like waiting for that first bite, and the excitement when suddenly something starts pulling on the other end of the line!
Ketchikan is famous for its incredible fishing opportunities, especially Pacific salmon, but the waters of Alaska are also home to halibut, several species of cod and many other fish. And here's something we didn't fully understand before going: catching the fish can be only the beginning.
Depending on the charter, fishing regulations and what you catch, local processors may be able to clean, prepare, freeze and professionally package your legal catch—and even arrange to ship it home. Families should always check the specific costs, regulations and shipping options with their fishing operator.Imagine returning home from Alaska and eventually having dinner made from a fish you actually caught! But this adventure also taught us something much bigger. For thousands of years, fishing has helped people feed their families and communities. Indigenous peoples of Southeast Alaska developed deep knowledge of these waters and sustainable fishing traditions long before modern tourism arrived.
Fishing remains important to Alaska Native cultures, commercial fishermen, recreational anglers and communities throughout Alaska today. For kids, going fishing can teach patience, responsibility and respect for wildlife. You discover very quickly that nature doesn't work according to your schedule. You can't simply push a button and make a fish appear. You have to wait.Watch.Listen.Learn.And sometimes you don't catch anything at all. That's part of the adventure. We'll also talk about why Alaska carefully regulates fishing, why fishing licenses and catch limits matter, and why protecting salmon habitat today helps make sure future generations can experience these same waters. From learning the basics of fishing to meeting a terrific female captain, seeing the incredible scenery surrounding Ketchikan and discovering where our food actually comes from, our first fishing trip became much more than another cruise excursion. It became one of those experiences where a young person gets to try something completely new—and comes home understanding the world a little differently.
Would you go fishing in Alaska?
And if you caught your first salmon, would you ship it home for dinner?
