Send us Fan Mail This week I’m glad to welcome our friend Billy Molls back to Fist Full of Dirt. A lot of folks know Billy as the Modern Day Mountain Man, and after a lifetime of guiding & hunting some of the wildest places on earth… he’s got enough stories to keep us here awhile. We talk about some of those adventures and the lessons that can only come from pushing yourself physically and spending time in wild places. But we also go a little deeper into Billy’s walk with God and how his faith has shaped the man, husband, father and hunter he is today. I’ve always believed there’s something about being in God’s creation that can straighten out your priorities pretty quick. Billy understands that as well as anybody. Send us Fan Mail This week I'm back with Dr. Warren Strickland, but we're changing gears a little. Last time we talked about his incredible bowhunting career. This time, we're putting his years of experience as a cardiologist to good use. We're talking about heart health, taking care of ourselves and some things we all need to be paying a little more attention to as we get older. I know a lot of us spend plenty of time worrying about our hunting equipment, our food plots and getting ready for the next season…  but how much time do we spend taking care of ourselves? I want every one of you to have many, many more years in the woods and on the water. This is an important conversation, and I'm mighty glad Dr. Strickland took the time to have it with us. Send us Fan Mail This week I’m catching up with my friend Kevin Burleson from Heart of Texas Bowhunting. Kevin has been outfitting hunters for decades and has probably seen just about everything that can happen when you put a bowhunter in the woods. We talk about some of the things that can make the difference between a good hunt and a frustrating one. We also talk about Heart of Texas and how Kevin has worked to give everyday bowhunters an opportunity to experience some incredible Texas hunting without breaking the bank. Send us Fan Mail I don’t think any of us will ever forget where we were on the morning of September 11, 2001. My oldest daughter Amy was just out of college and traveling for work near Washington, D.C. when the attacks began. When the Pentagon was hit, airports across the country closed and Washington started shutting down. Her husband Kevin and I did the only thing we knew to do. We got in my truck in Mississippi and went to get her. For this episode, Lauran sat down with Amy and me and asked us to tell the story of that day from our own perspectives. Neither of us heard what the other had said. She’s taken those conversations and woven them together with the actual news broadcasts from that morning as everything unfolded in real time. Twenty five years later, there are things about that day I remember like they happened yesterday. This is our family’s story of that Tuesday morning and one I don’t think any of us will ever forget. Send us Fan Mail This week I sit down with one of the most interesting men I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting with, Dr. Warren Strickland. Warren is a renowned cardiologist, a world class sporting clays shooter and one of the few bowhunters to complete the archery Super Slam. His hunting career and accomplishments would be impressive enough on their own, but it’s the way he’s gone about it that caught my attention. We talk about getting started without a mentor and a lifetime spent simply trying to be the best he could be. No audience. No need for attention. Just quietly doing things on his own terms. Send us Fan Mail Every now and then I sit down with somebody and realize pretty quick we’re probably going to need more time. Derrick Dixon was one of those guys. This week we’re talking about how Derrick found his way into the outdoor world and eventually into whitetail research. And he’s doing some of that research in a way I never would’ve dreamed of years ago… with drones. We get into what he’s learning by looking at deer from a completely different perspective, how this technology is being used in research and what it may teach us about an animal most of us have spent a lifetime trying to understand. We ran long on this one and could’ve easily kept going. Derrick is an interesting guy with a great story and I think you’re going to enjoy meeting him as much as I did. Send us Fan Mail This week I’ve got an old friend in the camo cave, Rick Dillard. Rick and I go back a long way. Some of you Hunting the Country viewers may even remember him from a few shows way back when. Rick is a fisheries biologist with the U.S. Forest Service and has spent his career working with fish and wildlife, but his love for the outdoors started long before it became his profession. We talk about his grandmother taking him fishing when he was a little boy, pick his brain on pond management and what it takes to grow and manage good fish, and reminisce about some of those early Mossy Oak and Hunting the Country days. Rick has been a friend for many years, and it sure was good having him sitting across from me telling stories again. Send us Fan Mail This week I sit down with my friend, former Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant. Most folks know Phil from his years in public service, but I’ve always known him as someone who genuinely loves the outdoors, our hunting traditions and this great country. We talk about where that passion began, how hunting and conservation have shaped his life and why it’s important to have leaders who understand the values of the people they serve. Thank you for listening! Send us Fan Mail This week I had the pleasure of sitting down with Lou Hill and Dr. Stacey P. Gill of WeHunt2 WeFish2. I first met these guys through our shared love of the outdoors and it didn’t take long to realize we had a whole lot more in common than hunting and fishing. We talk about how they found their way into the outdoors, why they’re so passionate about introducing others to it and what hunting and fishing have meant to their lives. They’re doing a great job of encouraging folks to get outside and experience everything God’s creation has to offer. I’ve always believed there’s room for everybody in the outdoors. The more people we can introduce to hunting, fishing, and conservation, the better off we’ll all be. Send us Fan Mail This week I’m visiting with Bart Adams, an attorney, prosecutor, former municipal judge and he also happens to be a turkey thug. We’re talking about how hunters can find themselves on the wrong side of the law. Sometimes it’s an honest mistake. Sometimes it’s poor judgment. And sometimes somebody knowingly crosses the line. Bart shares his perspective from years spent in the courtroom and public service. Good info to know before you head into the woods. Send us Fan Mail This week I’m talking about something that’s been on my mind for a while.. getting kids outside. It doesn’t have to be a hunting trip or a fishing trip. Sometimes it’s as simple as taking a walk in the woods or turning over rocks in a creek. (Or looking for a big, hairy Cryptid, if you know you know.)  As I look back on raising kids and watching my grandkids grow up some of my favorite memories started with one simple decision .. let’s go outside. Send us Fan Mail This week I’m joined by Mike Wiles, better known online as Ask Tractor Mike. Whether you own a compact tractor, an old farm tractor or you’re thinking about buying your first one.. this episode is full of practical advice. We cover tractor safety, common mistakes, implements, buying advice and a whole lot more. With so many of us spending time working our food plots, farms and hunting properties, I wanted to hear from someone who’s spent a lifetime around tractors. If you’ve ever climbed into the seat of a tractor (or plan to) this conversation is well worth your time. Thanks for listening!  Stay connected with Fist Full of Dirt:  Instagram: @ffodpodcast Instagram: @moplandforsale Twitter: @FistDirt TikTok: @originalturkeythug Instagram : @CuzStrickland Twitter: @CuzStrickland Facebook: @CuzStrickland YouTube: Cuz411

Send us Fan Mail Sometimes I think we take ourselves (and our hunting and fishing) a little too seriously. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had the passion and been completely consumed by it. But if I had to rank my most precious outdoor memories.. I don’t think a single critter would make the top 50 list. I’ll admit, at my age my memory bank is pretty loaded, so I may have an unfair advantage. Most of those memories happened around a hunting or fishing trip, camp, or gathering, which speaks volumes all by itself. This week I’m taking a trip back through some of those memories, sharing the stories behind them and why they’ve stayed with me all these years.  Stay connected with Fist Full of Dirt:  Instagram: @ffodpodcast Instagram: @moplandforsale Twitter: @FistDirt TikTok: @originalturkeythug Instagram : @CuzStrickland Twitter: @CuzStrickland Facebook: @CuzStrickland YouTube: Cuz411

Send us Fan Mail This week I’m joined by my longtime friend and blood brother, Ted Nugent, for one of the most candid conversations we’ve ever had. With Independence Day right around the corner, we talked about much more than hunting. Ted shares how his upbringing shaped the man he became, why he believes every one of us should strive to be an asset to our families, communities, and country, and the values that have guided him throughout his life. We also discuss his recent inductions into both the Legends of the Outdoors Hall of Fame and the Michigan Outdoor Hall of Fame, what those honors mean to him, and why his greatest accomplishments have very little to do with awards. Send us Fan Mail This week I’m pulling back the curtain on one of the most unique projects Mossy Oak has ever launched, Second Season. Back when the show first aired on the Golf Channel, the idea of blending golf and hunting audiences was anything but a sure thing. Looking back now, it seems obvious. Back then, it felt a little crazy. Somehow, through a lot of hard work and great people.. it all came together. This week I’m sharing the story behind the show, the people who made it happen, the challenges we faced, and why the crossover between golf and hunting was far more significant than most people realized. There are a few behind the scenes stories in here that I think you’ll enjoy.
