How to Stop Negative Self-Talk in Midlife| Dear What’s Next Letter
2026/09/29
Welcome to She Shift, where midlife women welcome to rediscover themselves, reignite their passions, and rise boldly into what’s next. I’m your host, Pamela Stone, your midlife reinventor. This week’s episode is for every woman who’s ever swallowed her pain, convinced herself she’s just being dramatic, and stayed silent because others “have it worse.” If you’ve ever tucked your struggles away and called it strength, it’s time to unlearn that habit. Pamela Stone delivers a heartfelt letter to women who talk themselves out of the healing they truly deserve. She reminds us that pain is not a competition, urges us to stop minimizing what hurts, and calls out the myth that self-abandonment is strength. Healing starts with honesty—naming the hurt, even for just five minutes, and refusing to shrink from your own truth. If you’re unsure about your next chapter or feel alone carrying invisible burdens, this episode is your invitation to honor your feelings and take the first step toward what’s truly next. Write back: What's one hurt you've been minimizing? Name it. Then send it to us at [email protected], or keep it for yourself. Either way, it counts. You don't have to carry it silently anymore. Your truth is welcome here. Dear What's Next Letter: Why Midlife Women Should Stop Playing Small
2026/09/19
Welcome to She Shift, the podcast for midlife women who are ready to rediscover themselves, reignite their passions, and step boldly into their next chapter. In today's episode, Pamela Stone speaks directly to the woman who has spent years making herself smaller for others' comfort. Starting from a candid moment in a fitting room and moving to the unspoken rules women over 45 are told to follow, Pamela explores how we've learned to disappear, not just in our wardrobes but in our ambitions, opinions, and laughter. If you've felt that whisper of "there has to be more," this letter is your permission to stop shrinking and start taking up space, in your closet and in your life.   1.Identify where you shrink. Notice how you make yourself small at home, at work, or in your self-image. Awareness is the first step to change. 2.Try one bold move. Wear the bright color, speak up in the meeting, or reclaim a long-held dream. One act of courage spills over into every area of your life. 3.Redefine your worth. Wanting more isn't selfish. It's a sign of growth. You deserve to take up space. You were never meant to fit. You were meant to rise. Rediscover Yourself Through Crochet: Finding Calm and Mindfulness After 45
2026/09/16
As we move through midlife, many of us find ourselves asking, “What’s next?” For Victoria of Gather & Hook, the answer came through an unexpected source: picking up the crochet hook she learned to use as a child, and creating a space for women to rediscover themselves through creativity and connection. In the latest episode of the She Shift podcast, Victoria shared her journey of pivoting careers, her belief in the therapeutic power of repetitive motion, and why gathering with others—free from life’s distractions—can provide the calm and clarity so many women over 45 are searching for. 3 Key Takeaways: Purposeful Creativity: You can’t count stitches and life’s problems at the same time. Creative pursuits like crochet are a mindful way to give your brain a rest and become present in the moment 11:18. The Power of Sisterhood: Building a diverse, supportive sister circle is essential. Different perspectives help you move forward with clarity and confidence 22:07. It’s Never Too Late: The best age to start something new? “Today. Whatever age you are today,” says Victoria 27:59. To all the women ready to reignite their passions and embrace their next chapter: take one small step. Whether you pick up a hook, a notebook, or a paintbrush, you are never too old to begin again.
Inside 'I Still Rise' — At the Table's Annual Survivor Fashion Show
2026/09/14
Table Talk Tuesday is back. And it's back with a room full of women who decided cancer would not get the final word. In this episode, I sit down with the leadership and models of At The Table, a Columbus, Ohio nonprofit that supports, educates, and empowers women cancer survivors — with a specific focus on African American women. We talk about their annual signature benefit, the Still I Rise Survivor Fashion Show, celebrating its 9th year on September 27 at 3:00 PM at Columbus Academy. Why a fashion show? Because cancer takes more than your health. It takes your confidence. Treatment changes your body. Chemo changes your hair. You stop recognizing the woman in the mirror. The runway gives that back. One model walked into the casting call topless after losing both expanders — and found her community in that room. This one gets real. Survivors share their diagnoses, their first time claiming the word "survivor," and what it means to walk a runway and say I am still here, I am still beautiful, my story is still being written. What we cover  • Why At The Table chose fashion as the platform for survivor advocacy  • How confidence gets rebuilt after cancer treatment — and why that matters beyond one event  • The sisterhood that forms at casting calls and rehearsals  • Why men belong in this conversation too (men get breast cancer, and families carry the weight)  • What happens after the runway: support groups, education, resources, scholarship  • The Denise Pittman Scholarship and the 9th Community Service Excellence Award  • Event details: lavender and gold, surprises at the door, why you should arrive on time If this episode moved you, do three things. Get your ticket at attrinc.org before Friday. Share this with a woman who needs to hear that her story is still being written. And subscribe to Table Talk Tuesday so you don't miss the next community leader at this table. Dear What’s Next Letter: The House is Quiet: Now What
2026/09/13
Hi Midlife Friend, Dear What’s Next, Nobody warned you about this silence. Not the peaceful quiet you daydreamed about in the middle of the chaos. The quiet that comes after the last car pulls out of the driveway. After the last box is loaded. After the door closes and you’re standing in a house that is suddenly, impossibly still. The house is quiet. And instead of peace, what you feel is somewhere between grief and panic. In this week’s Dear What’s Next letter, Pamela Stone speaks directly to the woman in the empty room — the mom who spent two or three decades building an identity around noise, and now can’t stop asking now what? In this letter: • Why empty nest grief doesn’t make you ungrateful — and why “now what?” is the most honest question you’ve asked in twenty years • How your identity got built around the schedule, the carpools, the meals planned around other people’s hunger • The truth about guilt: loving them and mourning the role are not opposites • Why the empty room is an opening, not an ending • The interests you shelved — the business idea, the art, the travel, the unfinished degree — and why she never left • One small practice for this week: sit in the quiet without filling it • The question to carry into your weekend (don’t answer it too fast) If you’re navigating empty nest syndrome, a midlife identity shift, or the strange grief of a chapter ending well — this letter is for you. Dear What’s Next... the house is quiet, but I am not done. I am just beginning again.   Chapter Markers Adjust these to your final audio before publishing — wrong timestamps make the player jump to the wrong spot. 00:00 — The silence nobody warned you about 01:00 — Two things you need to know first 02:15 — Two decades of an identity built around noise 03:30 — The guilt: loving them and mourning the role 05:00 — The turn: the empty room is an opening 06:30 — Start small — one hour that belongs to you 08:00 — The question to carry into the quiet Sponsors VM Magazine — Free Digital Issue Rediscover. Dear What’s Next Letter: No Permission Required
2026/09/04
This episode is for the woman in midlife who already knows what she wants to do next and is waiting for a green light that isn’t coming. Whether you’re navigating a career change after 45, rebuilding after a divorce, or finally starting the thing you shelved twenty years ago — this one names what’s actually in your way. 3 takeaways for your next chapter: (05:15) You are the authority. No supervisor, spouse, or outside voice sits above your own wisdom. You’re the matriarch of your life now. (07:32) Let go of the old narratives. You can leave the room, start over, or rest — without consensus and without outside approval. (07:43) Own your reinvention. The next chapter begins the moment you stop asking and start signing your name at the bottom of the page. Dear What’s Next Letter: Why Regret Outlast Fear: Every Time
2026/08/29
As women navigating the exciting (and sometimes daunting) "what's next," we often find fear shouting at us loud, unrelenting, immediate. But, as Pamela Stone reminds us, while fear is temporary, regret settles in, quiet and enduring, growing heavier each year we wait. If you've been holding back on launching that business, going back to school, writing your book, or simply stepping into your own new chapter—this is your sign to start. 3 Key Takeaways for You: Fear fades, regret remains: Fear screams in the moment, but once you take action, it quiets. Regret sticks with you every year you postpone your dream. Starting is the win: Success isn't always the final outcome—sometimes, the simple act of choosing yourself and taking the first step is a victory in itself. One small action is all it takes: You don't need a full reinvention overnight. Send the email, make the call, write that paragraph, or sign up for the class—just start. Your next chapter isn't waiting for you to be fear-free. It's asking you to begin anyway. --- Stay Connected 🎧 Follow She Shift wherever you listen to podcasts. 📺 Watch on YouTube: @SheShiftTV 📖 Read VM Magazine: https://fliphtml5.com/bookcase/rpsci/ Share this episode with a woman ready to discover what's next. Dear What’s Next Letter: Stop Waiting for Permission: The Conversation That Changes Everything
2026/08/22
Welcome to an episode created for every woman who feels stuck, watching the years roll by and whispering, "There has to be more than this." The conversation focused on reclaiming your next chapter when change—like AI or layoffs—takes the decision out of your hands. A key theme that emerged was the power of embracing forced transitions not as setbacks, but as opportunities to finally pivot toward your own dreams and rediscover your superpower. The discussion explored how waiting for permission holds us back, and why the time is now, not someday. 3 Key Takeaways You Can Act On Today Stop Waiting: The permission slip you're looking for? It's already yours. Don't let another year pass while you wait for "the right time." Own Your Experience: Your past and all you've built are not a liability—they're your superpower. Seek Support & Community: Reach out, share your story, and connect with others walking the same reinvention journey. You are not alone. Your next chapter starts now. Midlife Reinvention: How to Find Confidence, Purpose & Your Next Chapter with Lillie Jones-Perry
2026/08/10
Have you ever quietly wondered, “There has to be more than this?” If you’re navigating midlife reinvention and wondering what’s next, this conversation is for you. In this episode of She Shift: Conversations for Women in Midlife, Pamela Stone sits down with Lillie Jones-Perry, Executive Producer of Full Figure Fling, for an honest conversation about confidence, purpose, body image, overcoming old labels, and finding the courage to show up fully in midlife. Lillie shares her journey of refusing to let age, size, or other people’s expectations determine what’s possible for her. Together, Pamela and Lillie explore what it means to rediscover yourself, embrace who you are today, and move confidently toward your next chapter. In This Episode, You’ll Discover How to rebuild confidence in midlife Why old labels don’t have to define your next chapter How body image can shape the way women see themselves Why it’s never too late to pursue something new How showing up authentically can open new possibilities Why your size, age, or past doesn’t determine what’s next 3 Key Takeaways You Can Act On Today 1. Speak to yourself differently. Look in the mirror and say, “I love me, all of me.” Confidence starts with changing the conversation you have with yourself. 2. Stop allowing old labels to make today’s decisions. What someone said about you years ago doesn’t get to determine who you become next. 3. Give yourself permission to take up space. You don’t have to wait until you lose weight, feel completely confident, or have everything figured out. Show up as the woman you are right now. Meet Lillie Jones-Perry Lillie Jones-Perry is an Executive Producer, Writer, Actress, creative strategist, project manager, educator, and civic advocate who uses storytelling as a catalyst for social change. As Executive Producer of Full Figure Fling, she is part of creating space for fuller-figured women to be seen, celebrated, and represented. Through her creative and community work, Lillie champions authentic storytelling, purposeful leadership, and the power of owning your voice. Pamela’s Takeaway What stayed with me from this conversation is that reinvention doesn’t require us to become someone else. Sometimes the shift is finally giving ourselves permission to fully become the woman who has been there all along. Midlife isn’t the time to shrink because of our age, our size, our past, or other people’s expectations. It’s an opportunity to rediscover what we want, reignite what we’ve put aside, and confidently rise into what’s next. Dear What’s Next Letter: How to Overcome Fear and Avoid Regret in Midlife
2026/08/03
The conversation focused on the real struggles many women over 45 face when contemplating a new beginning. It’s easy to let fear—of being “too old,” of failure, of others' opinions—hold you back from reinventing your life and pursuing your true passions. But a key theme that emerged was this: the cost of waiting is greater than the risk of starting, and regret lasts much longer than any fear you feel today. Top Takeaways for Women Over 45 Ready for a Fresh Start: Waiting Creates Regret. Every day spent waiting for the “right time” results in missed opportunities and years of wondering “what if.” Take Action First, Confidence Will Follow. The discussion explored how confidence isn’t a prerequisite—it grows after you take that first brave step toward change. It’s Never Too Late for Reinvention. Whether you dream of starting a business, going back to school, traveling, writing a book, or rediscovering your own joy—your next chapter is ready to be written. To all women 45+, if you’re uncertain, stuck, or scared it’s too late: trust that small steps today lead to transformation tomorrow. Don’t let fear make your decisions; your best years, passions, and possibilities are waiting. Ready to rediscover yourself? Start your journey with She Shift—a community empowering women in midlife to take back their story, reignite their passion, and rise to what’s next.
