Episode 149 - A Christmas Carol Stage Show
2026/01/31
Hello you beautiful people! We've had a few emails from listeners which I talk about at the top of the show, one of those email was from Scott Newman and he and his daughter have completely ruined Step Into Christmas. Then it's The Christmas Quiz and you can test yourself against Bob Baker from Festive Foreigh Film Fans (and of course this podcast). Check out Bob's podcast here:  https://4fpodcast.buzzsprout.com/ This Christmas I was sent some festive treats from Mary Polte of Chicago, in the USA and she sent me some info about them and I share them with you (not literally, you won't actually get to eat them...   sorry about that). Then it's this episode's version of A Christmas Carol. It's a stage version that was filmed and shown on TV on the BBC on Christmas day 2022. It stays very close to the source material and is pretty darn good. This link tells you more about it: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt28797022/?ref_=nm_flmg_job_1_accord_2_cdt_t_17 The recommendation is a radio show/podcast called Just A Minute. It's on the BBC and it's been running for well over 40 years. It's well worth a listen. Get in touch: Email: [email protected] Web: totalchristmaspodcast.com Merry Christmas!
Episode 148 - Merry Christmas
2025/12/21
Merry Christmas you beautiful people! It's our last episode of the year and it's packed in like 50 elves in a single Christmas stocking. We start the show with Santa Claus is Not Coming To Town and Todd Polte shares the story of how he found out the truth about Saint Nick. Next up it's our yearly visit to see Shelli and Frank Arnold's Christmas village. It's a spectacular sight and if you check out my facebook page there should be some pictures there. Then it's Where Are You Christmas, and Bob Baker looks at Christmas in Lapland.  This episode's version of A Christmas Carol is one of the worst yet. It's a modern day version with Dean Cain and it's just awful. Here's a link: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt37266428/?ref_=fn_t_10 Ever wondered what the term 'Guv'nor' means, well Bob Baker is going to explain it all for you in Do You Hear What I Hear. Check out Bob's podcast here:  https://4fpodcast.buzzsprout.com/ Then it's The Christmas Quiz and you can test your Christmas knowledge against Jeanie Mulligan from Ireland. It was a low scoring episode for both of us. This episodes recommendation is I'm Not Complaing with Robin and Juno. Each week my two young daughters aged 10 and 5, tell jokes, talk about what they've been up to and argue. I think you'll enjoy it. Episode 147 - Christmas Sarnie Smackdown
2025/12/07
It's December, so it's Christmas and we start the show with this episode's version of A Christmas Carol. It's one I saw at The Theatre Royal Winchester. It's an old time radio stage performance and it started past Dr Who Colin Baker. Then it's Do You Hear What I Hear and Bob Baker is talking about the word 'Publican'. A couple of episodes ago we had Mary Polte on the show, well this episode she shares the story of how she found out the truth about Santa Claus. Then it's The Christmas Sarnie Smackdown, Jeanie Mulligan, from Ireland, comes on to talk about where to be the best festive sandwiches. Then Bob is Back with Where Are You Christmas, and this time it's in Frankenmuth, Michigan. Check out Bob's podcast here:  https://4fpodcast.buzzsprout.com/ Then it's The Christmas Quiz and you can compare your answers with our US correspondent, Scott Newman. Check out Scott's Podcasts. This year we look at a few of the many versions of Do They Know It's Christmas.  Here's the videos: Band Aid  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RH-xd5bPKTA Band Aid 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMZjb3YEUQ8 Band Aid 20 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UZ--sD_DBQ Band Aid 30 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-w7jyVHocTk Lad Baby  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIS3wNkQ_UE Keith Lemon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_05wWm6Mp0 Then Bob Baker is back with Where Are You Christmas? and he's looking at Harry Potter stuff in the UK.  Check out Bob's podcast here:  https://4fpodcast.buzzsprout.com/ We end with The Christmas Quiz. I managed 8, let me know how you got on. Get in touch: Email: [email protected] Web: totalchristmaspodcast.com Merry Christmas!
Episode 145 - Mickey's Christmas Carol
2025/11/09
Hello you beautiful people! We start the show with Christmas All Over The World and we have a look at some of the culinary delights in France, particularly La Reveillon and the 13 Desserts. Then Bob Baker has a look at the word us Brits use to describe a cigarette in Do You Hear What I Hear. In The Christmas Quiz this week I only managed to score 6. Make sure to email me and let me know your score. Then Bob is back with Where Are You Christmas. This time he's looking at Christmas all year round in sunny California. Check out Bob's podcast here:  https://4fpodcast.buzzsprout.com/ In this episodes version of A Christmas Carol we look at one of the all time classics, Mickey's Christmas Carol. It's short, but it's great. The recommendation this week is The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. We're all familiar with the film, but if you haven't read the book you should check it out. I listened to the audiobook and it was just great. You can listen to it free at Librivox.org Get in touch: Email: [email protected] Web: totalchristmaspodcast.com Merry Christmas!
Episode 144 - Merry Refrigerator Day
2025/10/25
Hello you beautiful people! We start the show with What The Dickens, and we have a look at some of the streets, towns and buildings that Dickens may have been referring to when describing Scrooge's London. Then Bob Baker takes a look at the word 'blinding' in Do You Hear What I Hear? Next up it's The Christmas Quiz and we're joined by Todd and Mary Polte, see if you can beat there scores. In Where Are You Christmas? this episode, Bob is looking at a Scottish castle in Japan, I kid you not. Check out Bob's podcast here:  https://4fpodcast.buzzsprout.com/ Then we look at Refrigerator Day, an episode of the Jim Henson show Dinosaurs.  You can watch it here:  https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x8iooia Get in touch: Email: [email protected] Web: totalchristmaspodcast.com Merry Christmas!
Episode 143 - Christmas Scrambling
2025/10/11
Hello you beautiful people! We begin the episode with Christmas All Over The World, and we look at the tradition of Scrambling in Driffield, Yorkshire. Where children roam the streetsgo from shop to shop begging for treats. Next up is Where Are You Christmas, and this time Bob Baker is looking at Bruges in Begium. Then it's our second part of our look at the 2019 BBC/FX version of A Christmas Carol, and Mary and Todd Polte defend it while I attack it. You can watch it here:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlTNqJFYiXw&t=7467s Next up Bob is Back with Do You Hear What I Hear, and he's looking at Golden Syrup.  Check out Bob's podcast here:  https://4fpodcast.buzzsprout.com/ Then it's The Christmas Quiz. I'm ashamed to say I only scored 6 this time around. Make sure to email me your score to let me know how much better than me you did. Episode 142 - Worse Christmas Carol Ever
2025/09/27
Merry Christmas You Beautiful People! We start the show with Where Are You Christmas? and Bob Baker tells us it's hiding in Germany. Then it's this episodes version of A Christmas Carol, it's the 2019 version starring Guy Pearce. Some would say this is the worst version ever, but not Todd and Mary Polte, who come on the show to stick up for it.  If you never seen it, you can watch it here:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlTNqJFYiXw&t=7467s Then Bob is back with Do You Hear What I Hear? and he's looking at the difference between Ass and Arse. Check out Bob's podcast here:  https://4fpodcast.buzzsprout.com/ Then it's The Christmas Quiz, I managed 9, make sure to email me with your score. Episode 141 - A Topper Christmas Carol
2025/09/13
Hello you beautiful people! We start the episode with a few Guinness World Records. How heavy do you think the world's largest Christmas pudding was? or what about the most brussels sprouts eaten in a minute? You'll find out here. Do you know what a 'brolly' is? Well we know in the UK, and Bob Baker will teach you what one is in Do You Hear What I Hear. This episode's version of A Christmas Carol is from the TV series Topper from 1953. It's not that good, but it could be worse. You can watch it here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFkt5_jG-TY Then Bob is back with Where Are You Christmas, and this time it's in China. Check out Bob's podcast here:  https://4fpodcast.buzzsprout.com/ In The Christmas Quiz I managed to score 8, let me know how you got on. Get in touch: Email: [email protected] Web: totalchristmaspodcast.com Merry Christmas!
Episode 140 - I Believe In Father Christmas
2025/08/30
Merry Christmas you beautiful people! We begin the show by looking at a Christmas Not So Classic. This one is from one of the biggest bands of all time, U2. They recorded a version of the British classic I Believe In Father Christmas, and it's okay. Here's a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qD6QSJsASVM Then Bob Baker is looking for Christmas in Where Are You Christmas, and he finds it at Mount Rushmore (with thanks to Benji Pearson). Next up it's the quiz, and we have a little contoversy about some of my pronunciations in the last episode. Halloween is on the horizon and in previous years listener Benji Pearson has dressed as ghosts from A Christmas Carol. This year he's thinking of being the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come and he asks for my advice, of which I give him very little. Then Bob is back with Do You Hear What I Hear and he's looking at two weeks, or as us Brits would say 'A fortnight'. Check out Bob's podcast here:  https://4fpodcast.buzzsprout.com/ This episode's version of A Christmas Carol is an episode of the western TV show Cimarron City. It's an interesting one,  You can watch it here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soC3lLkqiiA Get in touch: Email: [email protected] Web: totalchristmaspodcast.com Merry Christmas!
Episode 139 - Here I Went a Caroling
2025/08/16
Merry Christmas you beautiful people! It's a packed episode and we start with The Christmas Quiz. I scored 8, make sure to email me and let me know how you got on. Next up it's Where Are You Christmas and this episode Bob Baker takes us to a couple of Christmas shops in Edinburgh (pronounced Eden-burg, if you're Bob). This epsisode we have a combination of A Christmas Carol and Yule Logs. There are 3 to choose from and they're all a bit crap. This is an audio play adaptation and it's only part 1 (there are no more parts): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMJoiFiJEoc&t=25s This one is from the horendous version of A Christmas Carol by the BBC and FX: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IluciPAhTsw And this one shows 4 different versions of A Christmas Carol on a tiny screen in the corner of the picture: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zIytOURrx0&t=2527s Then it's What The Dickens! and I look at 3 interesting aspects of A Christmas Carol that you may not have noticed before. Oy! it's Do You Hear What I Hear? and Bob looks at the word 'Oy', which I thought was universal, but turns out I was wrong. Then it's one of my Christmas memories and I reminisce about my experiences going caroling singing as a teenager. Get in touch: Email: [email protected] Web: totalchristmaspodcast.com Merry Christmas!
Episode 138 - 101 Christmases
2025/08/02
Merry Christmas you beautiful people! We start the show with this episode's version of A Christmas Carol. It's an episode of the Disney cartoon series 101 Dalmatians called A Christmas Cruella. If you want, you can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njxjk4CosPM&t=1290s Then Bob Baker looks at what us Brits mean by a 'flannel' in Do You Hear What I Hear. After that it's The Christmas Quiz. I only scored 6 this week, let me know if you managed any better Next up Bob is back with Where Are You Christmas, and it turns out it's hiding in Canada. Check out Bob's podcast here:  https://4fpodcast.buzzsprout.com/ In the quiz in the last episode we had a question about how many doors there are in an advent calendar and Scott Newman, our US correspondent, has done a bit of research on the subject. I have as well, and we look at a few Guinness World Records involving advent calendars. This episode's recommendation is Paul Whitehouse and Bob Mortimer: Gone Fishing.  It's a lovely show, and you don't have to be interested in fishing to enjoy it. They've also got some nice Christmas specials (that weren't filmed anywhere near Christmas). It's on the BBC iplayer, but it's on other streaming sites as well, so check it out. Get in touch: Email: [email protected] Web: totalchristmaspodcast.com Merry Christmas!
Episode 137 - Chasing A Christmas Carol
2025/07/19
Merry Christmas you beautiful people! We start the show with this episode's version of A Christmas Carol. It's a made for TV movie starring Tom Arnold and it's an 'interesting' twist on the story. It's called Chasing Christmas and you can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yv7nL5nb2E0 Next up our resident barman Bob Baker looks at how us Brits say Aeroplane, or Airplane, in Do You Hear What I Hear. Then I share a Christmas memory, about when my daughter Robin first understood about Father Christmas. After the Joke, Bob returns with Where Are You Christmas? and this time Christmas is in Las Vegas. Check out Bob's podcast here:  https://4fpodcast.buzzsprout.com/ Then it's The Christmas Quiz and I scored 7, not my best, but let me know how you got on. Get in touch: Email: [email protected] Web: totalchristmaspodcast.com Merry Christmas!
Episode 136 - Mr Krueger's Christmas
2025/07/05
Hello you beautiful people! We start the show with a Christmas Not So Classic. The Pet Shop Boys were massive in the 80s and still going strong in the 90s. In 1995 they recorded a Christmas song just for their fanclub members. It's call It Doesn't Often Snow At Christmas, and it's okay I suppose. Have a listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBj8VehCeLE Then it's Where Are You Christmas? and Bob Baker tells us about a couple of places in Japan that celebrate Christmas all year long. Next up is The Christmas Quiz, make sure to email me with your score. Then Bob is back with Do Year Hear What I Hear and he's looking at what us Brits mean by the word 'Yonks'. Check out Bob's podcast here:  https://4fpodcast.buzzsprout.com/ This episode I don't have a version of A Christmas Carol, I'm looking at Mr Krueger's Christmas. An interesting short film from 1980 starring Jimmy Stewart. Watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oonebld1IoE This episode's recommendation is my 2 daughters' podcast; I'm Not Complaining with Robin & Juno. They're just about to release their 200th episode so please send a message through so they can play it on their show. Listen to it here: anchor.fm/notcomplaining Get in touch: Email: [email protected] Web: totalchristmaspodcast.com Merry Christmas!
Episode 135 - An Old Horse, a Carol and a Quiz
2025/06/21
Hello you beautiful people! We start the show with Christmas All Over The World and we take a look at the Yorkshire tradition of The Old Hoss. A bunch of people go round the pubs and one of them is dressed as a horse and they sing a poem...  and I'm not making it up. Next up Bob Baker has a look at what us Brits call 'taps' and those Yanks call 'faucets' in Do You Hear What I Hear. After the joke it's this episodes version of A Christmas Carol.  It's called Ebbie and it's a modern day (90s) take with a female Scrooge. It's actually alright. You can watch it here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTRm5gX6CXs Then Bob is back with Where Are You Christmas? and he looks at some places here in the UK that (to my shame) I wasn't aware of. Check out Bob's podcast here:  https://4fpodcast.buzzsprout.com/ Then it's The Quiz. I scored 8, make sure to email me with your score. This episode's recommendation is It's A Fair Cop with Alfie Moore. It's my latest favourite thing.
