Are You Living by Default or Design?
2026/10/20
Living by Default or Design. Which is it? We follow the rules, meet expectations, check the boxes, and somewhere along the way, we forget to ask ourselves what we actually want. My guest, Heidi Frye, calls this living by default instead of by design. After years as a successful corporate executive, Heidi discovered that fulfillment wasn't waiting at the top of the ladder. It was waiting in the choices she hadn't yet given herself permission to make. Today, she's traded chasing success for creating impact. Because you don't have to keep living a life you never consciously chose. Heidi is our guest this week on Unabashed You, in the series Now What, God? Discovering Your Next Assignment. Let’s talk. Thanks for being part of the UY conversation. If you’d like to receive ongoing inspiration via email, and/ or if you want to attend our monthly FREE webinar, email us at: [email protected]. Choose Your Hard Because Easy Isn't Always Better
2026/10/13
How many opportunities have you talked yourself out of before you even started? We call it being practical. Being realistic. Knowing our limitations.  But sometimes it's just fear dressed up as wisdom or thought work that needs cleaning up. This young woman has said yes to a full life.  Danae Cosman, is a Christian life coach for parents of newborns, a homeschooling mom of five, and someone who describes herself as optimistic, friendly, and adventurous. With Danae we are exploring what it means to ‘choose your hard’ and be grateful, that your hobbies don’t have to be visible, and that not one of us is a mere mortal. Having a full life does not come wrapped up in a bow.  There is growth in the uncomfortable.  Just ask the butterfly. You don't have to be fearless to move forward. You just have to be willing.  And maybe that next YES will change more than you could imagine.  There is only way to find out. Danae is our guest this week.  We are in the series Now What, God? Discovering Your Next Assignment. This is Unabashed You. Let's talk. Thanks for being part of the UY conversation. Why Taking Messy Action is the Best Path Forward
2026/09/29
Right now Unabashed You Coaching is focused on helping women stuck in ‘what to do next’ reset their purpose with messy action. (This can certainly apply to the men too.)  Well, what is messy action?  It’s the act of doing before you feel fully ready.  It’s doing things at a B- instead of curating the perfect A.  You can only get better at something by practicing, sometimes over and over again.  Sure ’thinking about things’ is fun but it will take decision and action to move forward. We’ve got 5 reasons why messy action is not only a good idea, but the best idea for you. Today.  Now. Thanks for being part of the UY conversation. You're Not Done Yet
2026/09/22
Transitions. What comes after the big thing? After the big thing: grown kids, career, relationship-loss (you name it), there is still you, and you are still here. You woke up today so that’s a pretty good sign. But what do you want? Think about it. Make a list. And you get to want what you want - you really do. Why would the God who loves you deny you? I don’t think he does. Sure the timing might not be right or maybe it isn’t good for you. Those are good ‘nos’ from him. Yet, how do we find his direction? How do we listen for his voice? We’ve got 5 ways to help guide you into your next chapter. And if you want your own copy give us a shout [email protected] or go tounabashedyou.com for more. Your next chapter starts today. Purpose: It’s Staring You in the Face
2026/09/08
Let’s start with the statement: The worst day of your life is only 24 hours.  This came out of the mouth of a 20 year-old and it stopped me in my tracks.  Yes, that is so true when you think about it, and a great way to endure hard times.  I marveled at the wisdom of Lawrence C. Harris.  How could he arrive at the kinds of thoughts he shared during our conversation?   Lawrence had emailed me and asked if he could be a guest on the podcast.  I liked that it wasn’t a formulaic request and I could feel his authenticity from afar.   He describes himself as a public speaker, author and advocate for teens and young adults to believe in themselves, think differently about their future, and make better choices.  How empowering is that?   Here is the chat we had.  It’s well worth the listen, and then tell me what you think. You can find Lawrence at lawrencecharris.com. Thanks for being part of the UY conversation. 10 Practical Steps for What’s Next
2026/09/01
In our youth we probably fantasized about growing up, getting married, having kids, maybe having a career but we likely didn’t imagine what our lives would be like after all of that. I know I didn’t. So this episode we are looking at 10 practical ways to discover what’s next because you’re not done yet. It’s the opener for the series Now What, God? Discovering Your Next Assignment. You don’t have to know exactly what comes next. You just need to be ‘brave enough’ to take a small step forward. That’s your challenge. Thanks for being part of the UY conversation. Come What May, and Love it - Part 2
2026/08/25
Her heart is for the stay-at-home mom.   She wants each one to choose happiness through cleaned up thoughts, and simple strategies.  While it may sound like a tall order Nicole Gardner is well aware of how important the role of mother is in having six herself, and being one of ten.   Since becoming a coach she better understands how we can transform our lives by changing our thoughts which will result in showing up differently, even happier.  Nicole has done the work herself and it changed her life.      Nicole is our guest this week for our series What’s with All the Coaches and Why you Might Want One.  This is part two of our conversation. You can find her on Instagram at Mom Coach Nicole. She has a podcast coming soon called Becoming. Thanks for being part of the UY conversation. Come What May, and Love it - part 1

Nicole Gardner is bubbly, energetic and engaging - those would be my three words to describe her.  She is already a certified life coach and is working towards a second certification.   One of the things she keeps handy is the idea that life is 50/50, there’s some good stuff and some that’s not, no matter what.  You get to choose how to look at and it will be transformative if you let it. Her family has a motto, something they say nightly after prayers, Come what may, and love it.  It is all at once hopeful, present-minded and brave not to mention inspirational.  Her clients will definitely get a lot of goodness from working with her. Nicole is our guest this week in our series What’s with All the Coaches and Why you Might Want One.  This is part one of our conversation. You can find her on Instagram at Mom Coach Nicole. You are Perfectly Good at Being Human - part 2
2026/08/11
Burnout is real.  Putting too much of ourselves, and our lives, into our careers can make us miss out on the work life balance we need.  Mel Wilson left her job to begin the next chapter of her career, and to restore a happier home.  It was not easy.  It was hard, and it was messy.  But she knew it was the next step.  Mel shares that messy action can build a beautiful life, if you let it.   The thoughts you have around what’s happening can be checked, and even changed.  You can build the future you imagine, the one you actually want. Mel is our guest this week in our series What’s with All the Coaches and Why you Might Want One.  This is part two of our conversation. You are Perfectly Good at Being Human - part 1

She is one RAD woman.  A term from our collective youth, Mel Wilson is the personification of being rad.  Being rad is radical - cool, awesome, great.  Yes, she is all those things and more.  Mel imparted some serious wisdom during our conversation, like: there’s power in owning your thoughts and they are something no one can ever take away from you.  And, our worth is not tied to our results so own your worth.  Those are just the beginning.  I left the conversation feeling full, satisfied and with a deep sense of admiration for all Mel had to say.  She is definitely unapologetic for who she is.  Yes, more of that please for all of us. Mel is our guest this week in our series What’s with All the Coaches and Why you Might Want One.  This is part one of our conversation. What’s the Difference Between Coaching and Therapy?
2026/07/28
Coaching is all the rage it seems - there are so many, and all kinds.  They want to come alongside to support and empower us.  And we still have dedicated therapists out there who are ready to help us as well.  But what’s the difference?  When do you want one over the other, or maybe you want both.  Coaching and therapy serve different purposes, and that’s what today’s episode is all about.  It’s like the Venn diagram we learned  about in school.  Different with maybe a bit of overlap in the middle.  Let’s look at both and you can make your own informed decisions. In Honor of Tony Hicks
2026/07/21
I received heartbreaking news and one of the only things I could think of to do was to ‘rerun’ this episode. You see Tony Hicks was an extraordinary human being and my eyes fill with tears as I write this. His life did not take the trajectory you would think or hope for. As you will hear in our conversation and read in the blog, Tony represents what accountability, forgiveness and restoration look like. And now he has died at age 45. I don’t know any details but they don’t change the fact that he is no longer with us, no longer serving as an advocate for peace. Rest well, Tony. Please. What Comes After - episode 230; originally released 9/3/24 This is what you can do after.  After the hard thing, when you come back to yourself.  You can figure out who you are, who you want to be, and amongst other things, what your superpower is.  Then go be you and do the things that only you can do - to the fullest.  Because ‘after’ you’re still here and that’s gotta mean something.  And it does to this week’s guest.  Tony Hicks is here, and he has the superpower of listening.  He listens with warmth, is respectful and genuinely wants to connect.  Not only does Tony want to connect, he also wants to help.  In his words he finds it extraordinarily satisfying. Coaching Changed the Way She Sees Things - Part 2
2026/07/14
Conversations can lead to better places. Through them we express ourselves, we learn about others, and we can work out misunderstandings.  Coaches can help with this.  Here’s where we get stuck according to guest Becky Brouwer: we are afraid of doing it ‘wrong’.  But what if you have the freedom to design your own life already?  You just have to believe it. Becky wants to coach people to see the story they have been telling themselves that keeps them limited.  We each can make a decision, it doesn’t have to be perfect, it doesn’t even have to be good, it simply needs to be a choice, a step forward towards a goal.  And if it doesn’t go ‘right’?  There are many paths up the mountain and you can adjust accordingly.  Each time.  Every time. Becky is our guest this week in our series What’s with All the Coaches and Why you Might Need One.  This is part two of our conversation. Coaching Changed the Way She Sees Things - Part 1
2026/07/07
How do you see things in a new way? Well, it starts with paying attention to your thoughts because they are what direct your feelings, which lead to how you behave, and the result follows all of that.  You may or may not like how it’s going and so you have the choice, the opportunity to change how you look at things. Becky Brouwer is our guest this week and she knows first-hand the power in this art (and science, actually).  It has helped her be a ‘sendy’ mom which is someone who has the courage to face fears and to go for things, to say yes to the hard things because she looks at them differently now.  At the top of a mountain about to ski down a hard run, she changed her thought and it made all the difference. Becky is our guest this week for the series What’s with All the Coaches and Why you Might Need One.  This is part one of our conversation. You can find Becky at beckycoaching.com and on Instagram Sendy Mom. Thanks for being part of the UY conversation. What’s with All the Coaches and Why You Might Need One
2026/06/30
An intro. Before we jump into today's episode, I want to ask you a question. Have you ever wondered why there seem to be coaches everywhere these days? Life coaches, business coaches, health coaches, mindset coaches—what's with all the coaches anyway? And more importantly, how do you know if hiring a coach is actually right for you? That's exactly why we created this special series, What's With All the Coaches and Why You Might Need One. In each episode, we’ll talk with coaches from different backgrounds to explore what coaching really is, who it helps, and how to know whether working with a coach could help you move forward in your own life. Whether you're curious about hiring a coach, thinking about becoming one, or simply wondering what all the buzz is about, this series is for you. To help you get even more out of these conversations, we’ve created a free companion guide called What's With All the Coaches? A Listener's Guide to Deciding Whether Coaching Is Right for You. Inside, you'll find reflection questions, red flags to watch for, questions to ask before hiring a coach, and a simple framework to help you determine your next step. You can get your own free copy at [email protected].  Ask and we will send it to you. Thanks for being part of the UY conversation.
