#51 Catch The Spirit
2026/09/13
In which Sue, Jules and Brian talk to Sarah Pollard and Steve Price about their experiences of scoring in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026.
What matches did they score and how did they score them? Who else was in the scorebox with them? How much will someone pay for a completed tournament scoresheet?
Jules confesses to breaking PCS Pro and Sarah declares her passion for scoring in glorious technicolour. Sue asked "Is it obsessive compulsive disorder to fill out every box on the scoresheet?"
We talked food (of course) but more egg sandwiches than cake.
We'd love to hear to hear from you about this episode, especially if you have experienced a similar tournament in a different country. Please get in touch via:

#50 Raising our bat - 50 Not Out
2026/07/09
In which Jules, Sue, Brian and Mark talk to Chris Lowe from Wimbledon CC about cricket milestones and statistics in celebration of our 50th podcast to date.
We welcome back Luke, who weaved his technical magic and created Cricket Scorers Untallied (CSU) for us and gives us an insight into milestones and statistics in ice hockey.
In the course of the chatter we ask, why do we note when someone makes a half century? Sue reveals some interesting facts about the CSU podcast, gleaned from the Buzzsprout website.
Chris explains how he created a calculator for over rates and interruptions in timed matches in the Surrey league and now uses AI to automate his own club statistics for quick information in a meaningful timescale for Wimbledon to celebrate their players' successes.
We wrap up the session with a suggestion of statistics on scorers and cake.
As usual, we'd love to hear to hear from you about this episode or suggestions for future ones as we bat on and hopefully notch up a bigger score.

#49 Czechs and Balances
2026/06/02
In which Sue, Brian and Jules talk to Chris Tebb from Winsley CC (Bradford-On-Avon) about officiating in the Czech Republic.
Who plays? Where do they play? How are officials recruited? What language is cricket played and officials trained in? What method of scoring is used? Event shelters, scoreboards, rain ...
Chris gives a well deserved shout out to the Czech Association of Cricket Officials (CACO) and the Czech Cricket Union (Českomoravský kriketový svaz; ČMKS).
It was a technically challenging episode and we missed the vital question of what cake do they have at cricket in Prague (answers please from anyone who scores there).
If you can fill in the missing cake information or want to talk about anything else scoring related, please contact us via one of the methods below.

#48 The Third Team
2026/02/21
In which Mark, Brian and Sue make up a third team with Middlesex Premier League umpires Matti Watton and Vinoj Srinivasan to discuss umpires and scorers working together for the good of the game.
They discuss match preparation, local knowledge, coffee preferences, downtime, dining together, what scorers need to know to support the umpires, mutual empathy, preparing for higher levels and lots more.
They ponder such questions as 'Should scorers attend the toss?' and 'Should scorers offer feedback to umpires?' - answers via email please.
Still no mention of cake (must do better in future episodes), but a pint and a bag of nuts creeps into the conversation instead.
As ever, please do get in touch via one of the methods below.

#47 A story through numbers
2026/01/28
In which Jules, Sue, Mark and Brian talk to Devdutt Kshirsagar (Outside Broadcast Graphics Operator at Fox Sports) about his cricket work in Australia.
Devdutt describes how he came to do the job and what a day in the life of an Outside Broadcast Graphics Operator looks like. Devdutt answers all Mark's 'nerdy' questions about the technology involved and Sue's probing about how much interaction he has with the official scorers and where he sits.
There is an errant Leg Bye that features throughout the episode, which culminates in a weighty discussion over animated ducks.
Jules wraps up with the news that Cricket Scorers Untallied reached number 13 in a list of cricket related podcasts and urges our listeners to make contact, preferably by email.

#46 Wagon wheels of your mind
2025/08/02
In which, Jules, Mark, Sue and Brian are joined by special guest Liam Burnell, Sports Psychologist at Mindflick (https://mindflick.co.uk/) to share his experience of cricket scoring and offer some tips for scorers on how to stay positive and look after each other in the scorebox.
Liam talks about team dynamics, building confidence, creating a rapport with other officials, performance mode, scorers are athletes, support networks, resilience, mind sets, perspective, 7-second cure, the stretch zone, Samurai thinking, social interaction and assured us all that anxiety is normal.
CSU would like to offer Liam a huge vote of thanks for joining us on this podcast and we hope that you find Liam’s advice both interesting and useful.
If you are affected by anything discussed in this episode, a great source of help can be found at Opening Up Cricket (https://openingupcricket.com/) or MIND (https://www.mind.org.uk/).
In memory of Graham Paul Thorpe 01/08/1969 – 04/08/2024.
We hope that CSU provides a small way for scorers to support each other and would love to hear from any of our followers. Please get in touch with Cricket Scorers Untallied for any comments on this and other episodes, to let us know what you would like hear about in future episodes or just to talk scoring with us.

#45 Scorers United
2025/06/26
In which, Jules, Brian, Mark (welcome back) and Sue are joined by guests Helen Hyde and Andy Lynch to talk predominantly about the mentoring and support of our scoring colleagues.
It wouldn't be CSU if we didn't get distracted along the way, and although there is no mention of cake, you will hear reference to roving scorers, media scorers, quizzing scorers, cross pollination, fielding positions and we ask 'Can Andy count to three?' and just what was he doing in the toilets at the Home of Cricket?
Our usual thanks go to both our guests and don't forget to keep in touch with Cricket Scorers Untallied for any comments on this and other episodes and to let us know what you would like us to talk about in future episodes.

#44 Women escape to the county
2025/05/31
In which, Sue, Jules and Brian are joined by guests Lin Martin, Rod Cole and Mike Turner to talk about the return in the UK of women's cricket to Professional County Clubs rather than regional franchises.
The discussion pondered the issue of 'to travel or not to travel', celebrated scorers getting medals at the recent Women's County Cup Final and discovered the 'romance of cricket'.
As usual the conversation diverged into batters being Timed Out, Double Retirements, both batters with runners, super overs, 10 Retired Outs on one scorecard and stress for scorers of a close finish and posed the question 'Are women faster than men?'.
Thanks to all our guests in this episode and don't forget to keep in touch with Cricket Scorers Untallied via the usual channels for any comments on this and other episodes and to let us know what you would like us to talk about next.

#43 Double Double, Toil and Trouble. Fire burn and scoreboard bubble.
2024/11/08
In which, Sue, Jules and Brian are joined by a plethora of scoreboard operators to contrast how scoring differs when operating a scoreboard.

With thanks to Mike Birtwistle (Emirates Old Trafford), Mike Turner (Cheltenham Cricket Festival), Jane Hough (Derbyshire CCC and Ockbrook & Borrowash CC), Cait Fraser-Burton (Ockbrook & Borrowash CC) and Steven Horsley (Ockbrook & Borrowash CC) for sharing their experiences of scoreboard operating.

#42 Lies, damned lies and scoring statistics
2024/08/17
In which, Sue, Jules and Brian are joined by guest Richard Isaacs to talk about providing statistics for cricket commentators and in particular the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA in June 2024.
Along the way the quartet discuss: disability cricket at Lord's; the Vatican v the Bishop's Conference; providing broadcast statistics; maintaining personal well being while working from home; scorers in the corner; working as a team; scoring as the best job in the world; statistical story telling; cricket stats databases; the hunt for historical records; cracking the USA; frisbee throwing above cricket; the oldest cricket fixture of all time; international T20 stats; scorer recognition.
Yes we really did cram all that and more into 40 minutes and asked the 4 key questions:
What do you call a group of 5 balls?Has that happened before?Who are the scorers?Does the pope play cricket? We also came up with some topics for future episodes, so stay tuned for more and make sure to keep in touch with Cricket Scorers Untallied via the usual channels.

Also mentioned are: Streatham & Marlborough CC; Displaying milestones; Refugee cricket; Publishing players' names and images; Play-Cricket display names; Registering players; Merging players on Play-Cricket; Asking permission; Scoreboard operators.
There must be a serious lack of cake at The Oval, as it doesn't get a single mention in this episode!

#40 My Cricket Camera?
2024/01/05
In which Sue welcomes you to 2024 and Mark chats with Andy Nott about using cameras while scoring for the MCC.
There's an abundance of technical terms and who knew that camera poles, battery packs, wireless point to point links and multiple tripods would become standard equipment for scorers? There's a shout out to some stunning locations but also some remote (resourceless) places. What do you do on encountering a flimsy sightscreen or when your memory goes? I can't quite remember the answer to that one!
Thanks to Mark Shepherd and Andy Nott for sharing their experience on camera scoring for Marylebone Cricket Club (or My Cricket Camera).
Don't forget to keep in touch with Cricket Scorers Untallied via the usual channels.

#39 Where did 2023 go?
2023/10/26
In which Brian, Jules and Sue catch up after the 2023 season and chat mainly about food and beverages with a little bit of cricket scoring between bites.
Cropping up in conversation you will find: regular stewards; grounds that can be circumnavigated; the price of tea; gypsy tart watch; the Village Knock Out Final; the Milk Tray man (other chocolates are available); handing round scoring devices; paper versus scoring app; chasing the sun; hello to Rory from Durban (SA); scoring in the CWC2023; a 'correspondent' question; indoor cricket.
To stop the team rambling and be more focussed in future episodes, please get in touch and suggest a topic for discussion via the usual channels.

#38 T20 Vision or Cricket?
2023/09/07
In which Sue, Brian and Jules talk to Paul Toplis, Paul Stubbs and Carol Hughes about scoring visually impaired (VI) cricket at the 2023 International Blind Sport Federation (IBSA) World Games in Birmingham.
Cropping up in our conversation were a vicars/priests team, runners, Hit Wicket dismissals, underarm bowling, more runners, being quiet, balls with ball bearings in, an all run 5, batters at the wrong ends, helpful shirt numbers, paper backups and did I mention runners?
In a radical change to the norm - there is no mention of cake!
Mark Long joins the conversation to talk about scoring domestic VI cricket in the UK and if you want to try this yourself, please contact Paul Toplis on [email protected], as more scorers are always wanted in this format of cricket.

#37 Ashes to Ashes
2023/08/05
In which Jules, Sue and Brian apologise for the gap between episode 36 and 37 and talk to Mike Turner, Izzy Howe and Andy Lynch about scoring the men's and women's Ashes series in Summer 2023. During the discussion they get side-tracked by scorebox camaraderie, extra strong mints, moving scoreboxes, red light bulbs, DRS, 'The Book', top and bottom scoring, scorebox catering and of course cake (well chocolate gateaux). Much pondering is done over when a batter is deemed out, time-wise ...
