Was the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup draw a real World Cup draw?
2024/02/14
Last month the fixtures for the Men's T20 World Cup were released. However to all intents and purposes the fixtures, locations of teams and timings all looked like backroom deals rather than any real draw. Machel took a look at the fixtures and analysed whether the ICC know how to run a World Cup in its truest sense? NB: *After this episode was recorded we received news from Cricket West Indies that some games were moving to 830pm (Caribbean time)* As always with the Caribbean Cricket Podcast we go into a level of depth and analysis on West Indies cricket that you wont hear anywhere else. West Indies cricket will always be a Netflix series. In the latest installment of West Indies drama - Cricket West Indies has confirmed several organisational changes at the start of a significant year. Most notably Roland Butcher has been let go as West Indies Men's senior selector - a move that caused shock in some parts of the Caribbean. Machel and Santokie took a look at all of the organisational changes and analysed why the moves have been made. What is going on with cricket in Jamaica?
2024/01/22
West Indies cricket will always be a Netflix series. In the latest installment of West Indies drama - Jamaica Tallawahs have resigned from CPL and been replaced by a yet to be named Antigua franchise. This appears to be just the latest blow in what is being seen as the underdevelopment of Jamaica cricket. Machel and Santokie were joined by special guests Jerome Foster (Sports Journalist RJR/Gleaner) and Simon Preston (Media Officer JFF/former analyst Jamaica Tallawahs) to chop up the situation. Who should have been called up for the West Indies test tour of Australia?
2024/01/15
The dust has now settled on the noise around the test squad selected to tour Australia. In that void Machel decided to take a look at the squad again and ask if there were other options for selection (outside of the big name players that declined selection). Sunil Narine: West Indies legacy
2023/12/21
Sunil Narine has officially announced his retirement from international cricket as well as domestic List A cricket. He of course crowned the announcement with a Super 50 title and ended the 2023 tournament as the top wicket taker - how fitting. However despite Sunil being a global star in the game his West Indies legacy is a bit more complicated - we are a tough people to please both within the region and the wider diaspora. Machel and Santokie jumped into the hot seat to assess Sunil Narine's West Indies legacy. Super 50 2023: The CCP review show
2023/11/24
The 2023 CG United Super 50 is over and one of the oldest sides in the competition took the title. Make no mistake the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force were deserved winners of the tournament but it would be a lie to say there arent serious reservations about the overall quality of domestic cricket in the region. Machel and Santokie jumped into the studio to run the rule over a competition that was down horrendous at the best of times. He takes us on a tour de force of Trinidad & Tobago cricket - from Constantine to CLR James and Brian Charles Lara and the T20 revolution. Not only that we look at the wider racial, cultural, social and economic context of cricket in both Trinidad & Tobago and wider West Indies cricket.
