130. Embracing Intuition and Breaking Free from Diet Culture with Intuitive Eating Counselor Lara Days
2024/02/14
What does a Spiritual Business Mentor and an Intuitive Eating Counselor have in common? We both want you to feel your body. Lara Days joined me to discuss the the transformative journey of embracing body acceptance, finding joy in movement, and learning to honor your health holistically. Together, we talked about how to discern our body's natural signals for hunger, fullness, and nutritional needs.
This episode was a deep and heartfelt conversation, where we peeled back the layers of our emotional connections with food. We talked about how our eating habits are often a reflection of our coping mechanisms, and how important it is to develop a diverse range of strategies to process our emotions. I shared personal stories of how my husband and I navigate this in our own lives, and we emphasized the profound impact of mindful eating. We also pondered over the significance of our food choices, considering them as more than just sustenance—they are a celebration of culture, emotion, and pleasure.
Lastly, we took a critical look at how generational patterns and societal norms can shape our food behaviors and body image. We shared insights on building interoceptive awareness and the courage to break free from these inherited beliefs around food and bodies to establish a more intuitive relationship with ourselves.
Lara Days is a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor, yoga instructor, and Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach who is on a mission to dismantle the diet industry and empower people to live their happiest, healthiest, most confident lives! Lara focuses on helping you improve your mindset, unlearn your past conditioning, and trust your body so that you can find food freedom, ditch diet culture, and step into your power!

129. Manipulative Power Dynamics and their Parallels in Religion and Coaching with Gentle Business Coach Ashley Beaudin
2024/02/14
Have you ever felt the constrictive grip of high control environments on your personal freedom and questioned where real safety is found? Gentle Business Coach Ashley Beaudin unravels her own journey through the rigid structures of a Pentecostal church and into the tumultuous world of online entrepreneurship. Together, we traverse a landscape peppered with challenges including external authority, the relentless pursuit of hustle over rest, and the complex interplay between emotional health and business success.
Navigating the treacherous waters of personal agency can be daunting, especially when external voices attempt to steer the ship. In our rich conversation, we dissect the impact of 'good girl' programming, probe the importance of listening to our body's wisdom, and embrace the art of finding balance amidst the intense pressures to overcommit. Ashley's raw narrative on the quest for self-sufficiency serves as a beacon for anyone looking to reclaim their autonomy from the clutches of external validation.
We explore the dance between power dynamics, ethical marketing, and authentic human connection. Our discussion peels back the layers of manipulative power dynamics in both religious and entrepreneurial spaces, examining how these forces can both empower and ensnare. Ashley, the Gentle Business Coach, leaves us with a refreshing perspective on forging genuine relationships in business, steering clear of manipulation, and nurturing an environment of safety and consent.

128. What is Our Responsibility as Space-holders to Comment on Global Tragedies?
2024/02/09
In the landscape of social media, I often find myself at the crossroads of silence and declaration when it comes to global conflicts. It's a place where every post and comment is scrutinized, and things that are happening thousands of miles away from you can press upon your conscience. But what happens when you choose the path of quiet reflection over public proclamation? And why would someone choose to say silent in the face of so much heartache and corruption in the world? This episode is a heartfelt exploration into the ethical maze of speaking out on complex geopolitical issues, where I open up about the pressures to voice an opinion and the profound realization that sometimes, the most responsible action is to pause and learn.
As we navigate the digital world's expectation for instant reactions to societal events, the art of setting personal boundaries emerges as a vital skill. Here, I share the allure of crafting intimate connections through deep, thoughtful conversations, highlighting the power of subtler forms of support and influence. We don't always need to shout to be heard; often, it's the quiet presence and the space we hold for one-on-one dialogue that can leave an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of others. Join me as we explore the value of the unsung impact of those quieter contributions and discover how they can resonate just as profoundly within the collective narrative.

127. WEBS OF TRUTH: Unpacking the "Should" Story with Lindsey Lockett
2024/01/03
As the first month of the year sweeps in with its gust of self-improvement demands, we—Kat and Lindsay—invite you into our conversation about the relentless tug-of-war between aspirations and the realities of self-discipline. Have you ever found yourself caught in the undercurrent of 'should', where every cell in your body resists the societal pull towards productivity, yet your mind chastises you for every unproductive moment? Together, we walk through the shadows of perfectionism that linger from childhood, discussing how they shape our lives and contribute to the anxiety that often comes with the pursuit of a polished exterior.
Our journey doesn't stop at the surface struggles; we plunge into the deep waters of shame, guilt, and self-doubt. Sharing stories close to our hearts, we shine a light on the often-invisible burden these emotions place on our day-to-day lives, from the dishwasher left unloaded to the gym membership card gathering dust. We grapple with the dichotomy of desire and guilt, the magnetic pull of both, and how they shape our relationship with self-discipline. Our candid tales weave through emotional resistance to exercise and the surprising revelations of bodily communication, hoping to strike a chord with those who have ever felt the weight of their own expectations.
As we wrap up this episode, we turn the lens towards self-compassion and balance. We reflect on our own journeys with exploringthe delicate dance of managing weight in a way that honors our health and well-being while not bypassing the emotional tumult of communicating with our bodies, . Embracing the Yang energy of new beginnings, we ponder the nuanced interplay of hormones, stress, and self-care, offering insights into a more harmonious way of navigating life's intricacies. Join us for a heartfelt exchange that promises more than just solace—it offers a shared path to understanding and, hopefully, a little laughter along the way.
