Danae Shell - Remote Work Discrimination and the Urgency of Employer Flexibility
2023/06/21
In this episode we welcome back Danae Shell, Co-founder and CEO of Valla, as she talks about remote work discrimination and the importance of employer flexibility.
Danae shares an incident where a woman requested flexible working arrangements but her employer denied them, leading to her resignation. The employment tribunal found the employer engaged in indirect sex discrimination, resulting in discrimination and unlawful consequences.
Compensation for past and future losses and injury to feelings may be awarded. The consequences of discrimination can include compensation for past and future losses and an award for injury to feelings.
Danae also touches on the ongoing debate regarding remote work and the push to return to the office. Employers must understand employment law and seek external advice when addressing requests for flexible working or reasonable adjustments, particularly for disabled individuals.
The platform "Valla" helps individuals document workplace issues and guide them through the process of taking action, including raising grievances or going to a tribunal.

They stress the need to educate the industry and the public, promote goods and services that have been proven to work and build a community of support for people with mental health problems.
Stewart talks about how the cause is important to him because he has lost 11 founder friends to suicide and has struggled with his own mental health. He says that mental health needs to be a top priority in the business world and that the way people talk about getting help needs to change.
Lujza talks about how the mental health community is based on sensitivity and how app developers for mental health need to work together. They want people and groups to join the Digital Mental Health Alliance and help them improve access to safe and effective digital solutions for mental health.

New Meta Gaming Arena - Better Together
2023/06/05
In this episode we have Eduard Kim from New Meta Gaming Arena from Islington Square with Adrian De Leon.
New Meta Gaming Arena is a community for gamers and people who loves gaming. Where you can play together, learn together, and achieve together.
The business model is based on frequency and loyalty, rather than extortionate prices, and is aimed at providing customers with a high-powered gaming laptop and a socialising event. The long-term goal is to add things such as a coworking space for gaming professionals, and Space for just playing.
New Meta aims to develop their brand as an online brand, similar to how sports teams build a brand. Ed discusses the potential for Esports to be included in the Olympics, but the fundamental problem is that there are too many different types of online games to choose from.

Founder and Chief MEHscapologist at Total Growth Ownership
2023/05/17
Matt Hodgkinson is a consultant who assists B2B organisations in breaking out of the humdrum and injecting excitement into their positioning and marketing.
He talks about the concept of MEHscapology, which is the idea of escaping the MEH of business. Matt emphasises the necessity of being unique and transparent about what you discuss in order to stand out and capture someone's attention.
Matt also talks about how important it is to target the appropriate people and make them feel like they've never heard or seen anything like it before. He stresses the need of using several languages and matching the buyer's speed.
According to Matt, positioning is about people's perceptions, which is the prism through which ideal purchasers evaluate a value proposition. He strongly opposes mass outreach methods like dripify and duck soup and offers a new way.
Matt also addresses the significance of engagement metrics and advocates discontinuing paid outreach until they find an organic avenue that works for them.

Danae Shell - Co-Founder and CEO of Valla
2023/04/24
Danae Shell, Co-founder and CEO of Valla, discusses the impact of economics and social injustice in the UK and how they are increasing revenue in this episode of the #techlondon podcast.
Valla enables employees to self-represent when their employers engage in illegal behaviour.
Employers responded in 2022 with widespread layoffs and an increase in inflation, while employees have had a taste and do not want to return to the old ways.
Danae discusses the significance of embracing discomfort in order to reach high levels of growth and performance.
They talk about how uncomfortable it is to stay up late at night and not sleep for four days to launch a product and the automatic behaviour of uttering "the house into my heart" without thinking.
She also discusses the concept of Allyship, how to negotiate it in the workplace, and the stigma associated with transgender persons.
Danae covers VUCA, which stands for Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity. Outsized returns are vital for individuals who can innovate and operate more productively.
