Tales from the Claims Crypt: When AI Gets it Wrong
2026/10/19
In Chiropractical's annual "Tales from the Claims Crypt" episode, host Jon Kec is joined by NCMIC claims specialists Tom Caswell and Zach Myers to explore four unsettling real-world chiropractic liability cases, each packed with lessons that can help practitioners avoid costly mistakes.
When AI Becomes a Liability: A chiropractor turns to an AI app for guidance during a medical emergency instead of immediately calling 911, creating unnecessary risk. The "Ticking Time Bomb Patient: A patient with an undiagnosed condition suffers a terrible injury that ultimately results in a wrongful death claim, despite normal imaging findings and care that appeared clinically appropriate. The Case of the Predatory Patient: A questionable EMS and ultrasound burn allegation raises read flags, but thorough documentation and billing evidence help dismantle the claim. When Good Intentions Create Bad Outcomes: A chiropractor's instinct to be friendly and apologetic leads to statements that could be used against them in a liability claim. 01:19 - When AI Gets it Wrong

ACA and ICA United for Chiropractic's Future
2026/09/28
For the first time in profession history, the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) and the International Chiropractors Association (ICA) are standing together on the same stage.
In this landmark episode of NCMIC’s Chiropractical, host Jon Kec is joined by Dr. Kris Anderson (ACA) and Dr. Joe Betz (ICA) to break down a critical breakthrough for your practice: a unified, strategic initiative around H.R. 539 and S.106 to modernize outdated Medicare restrictions, expand your scope of coverage, and ensure our patients get the full spectrum of care they deserve.
What You’ll Discover in This Episode:
A Historic Moment for the Profession: How a year of transparent dialogue led to a powerful, unified partnership between the ACA and ICA—and what this means for the future of your practice. Modernizing Outdated Medicare Restrictions: Currently, Medicare only reimburses basic spinal adjustments, forcing DCs to deliver necessary exams and X-rays without coverage. Learn how new legislation aims to fully cover your full scope of practice. Expanding Patient Access & Practice Growth: What broad Medicare coverage means for your patient volume, clinic sustainability, and your community's access to affordable care. The Legislative Battle on Capitol Hill: Inside the policy push—how the ACA, ICA, industry leaders like NCMIC, and the Make America Healthy Again Chiropractic Hub are pooling resources to educate lawmakers and navigate congressional budget hurdles. Critical December Deadlines: Why Congress's upcoming December window is the ultimate leverage point for getting this bill across the finish line. Setting the Stage for Broader Scope Expansion: How this victory establishes momentum for student loan forgiveness programs, expanded VA/military healthcare integration, and true parity for chiropractic care.

2025/10/14
In this spine-tingling episode of Chiropractical, Host Jon Kec opens NCMIC’s “Claims Crypt” to uncover three true stories where everyday, respected chiropractors found themselves at the center of shocking lawsuits, and discovered the hard lessons about the risks that come with care.
Too chilling to venture into the Crypt alone, Jon is joined by NCMIC Claims experts Tom Caswell and Zach Meyers, they examine how even when chiropractors do everything right, they can still find themselves living in a legal nightmare.
