Interview w/ Utah Archers' Beau Pederson & Brett Dobson
2026/05/07
As professional lacrosse continues to grow in Utah, few players represent the sport’s momentum better than Beau Pederson and Brett Dobson. Though their paths to the professional game couldn’t look more different, both have found a home with the Archers and both have played a major role in strengthening Utah’s connection to the sport.
Beau Pederson’s lacrosse journey began almost as early as possible. With a stick in his hands from the time he was a toddler, Beau quickly fell in love with the creativity, competition, and team-first nature of the sport. That passion carried him through a highly competitive recruiting environment, eventually leading to Princeton, where he played in the Ivy League before completing a graduate year at Michigan.
That combination gave Beau a rare perspective by competing in two elite conferences while preparing for the next level. Professional lacrosse wasn’t always the goal, but as his college career progressed, it became a reality. Being drafted by Utah in the PLL’s first year of home cities was a full‑circle moment, made even more meaningful by playing for the same coach who recruited him years earlier. Scoring his first professional goal at home in front of friends and family cemented his place as one of Utah’s own.
Dobson’s path took a very different shape. Raised in Canada’s deeply ingrained lacrosse culture, Brett was immersed in the game from a young age. After transitioning to goalie he leaned into the position with total commitment. His development accelerated at The Hill Academy, where daily exposure to professional players made the dream tangible.
Despite that background, Brett’s recruiting journey wasn’t traditional. His lone Division I opportunity came from St. Bonaventure, a brand‑new program at the time. Instead of viewing it as a limitation, Brett embraced the challenge of building something from scratch. Facing heavy shot volumes and constant pressure, he sharpened the mental toughness that would later define his pro career.
That toughness paid off on draft night, when Brett was selected as the first goalie off the board in the PLL Draft, a moment that validated years of belief, resilience, and family sacrifice. Since then, he’s become a cornerstone for the Archers, earning championships, Finals MVP honors, and respect across both field and box lacrosse as a member of the Georgia Swarm in the NLL.
What unites Beau and Brett now is playing for the Utah Archers. Both players have spoken about the energy, passion, and connection they feel here. Whether it’s playing in front of packed crowds, visiting youth programs, or interacting with fans who genuinely care about the game. Their presence gives young Utah players something tangible to aspire to, reinforcing that elite lacrosse careers can start anywhere.

Interview w/ Bountiful Head Coach Peter Jordan
2026/04/30
Welcome in fans to the Utah Lacrosse Report Podcast, I’m your host, Tim Haslam. Today I’m joined by Bountiful Head Coach Peter Jordan, one of the longest‑tenured coaches in Utah high school lacrosse and a guy who’s been deeply connected to the sport his entire life.
Coach Jordan shares his journey from growing up around the game with a lacrosse‑playing dad, playing for Bountiful’s first high school team, and continuing on at the University of Utah in the MCLA. From there, he dives into his coaching path — returning to Bountiful, learning under Marty Wescott and eventually taking over as head coach, where he’s now spent a decade building one of Utah’s most respected programs.
We talk about:
* The early days of Bountiful lacrosse and how the program was built
* His college experience at Utah and competing in a loaded MCLA conference
* Coaching alongside former players and family members
* What makes this year’s Bountiful team special
* The importance of multi‑sport athletes
* Navigating a tough region with Olympus, Brighton, Alta, and more
* Culture, toughness, and developing players beyond the scoreboard
Plus, we wrap things up with some fun rapid‑fire questions — including wooden sticks, favorite coaching moments, and where to eat in Bountiful after a Friday night game.
Hope you enjoy the show!

Interview w/ Alta Head Coach Brandon Horoba
2026/04/23
My guest today is a familiar name to anyone who’s been around Utah lacrosse for a while — and one of the few returning guests we’ve had on the podcast so far.
He started coaching at Alta back in the early 2000s, has stops at Brighton and UVU along the way, won multiple state championships, and now finds himself back where it all began, leading Alta through one of its best seasons in years.
We’re going to talk about his coaching journey, building culture, giving back to the game, Alta’s run this season, and that recent trip to Maryland that gave this group a ton to build on.
So with that, I’m excited to welcome back to the podcast, Alta Head Coach Brandon Horoba.
Hope you enjoy the show!

Interview w/ BYU Head Coach Matt Schneck & UVU Head Coach Colin Maxfield
2026/04/02
My guests this week are BYU Head Coach Matt Schneck and UVU Head Coach Colin Maxfield.
This Friday night at 7:00 PM, it’s No. 1 Utah Valley University hosting No. 2 BYU, as two of the most consistent and competitive programs in the MCLA go head‑to‑head at Skyridge High School. If you can’t be there in person, you can catch the game live on kslsports.com/watch.
Both programs come in undefeated. Both have navigated challenging schedules. And as you’ll hear today, both coaching staffs believe that if each team brings its best 60 minutes, this game could come down to the smallest details—matchups, discipline, and execution.
I had the chance to sit down with UVU head coach Colin Maxfield and BYU head coach Matt Schneck, and the message from both sides was clear: this isn’t about hype, or polls, or statements. It’s about preparation, culture, and embracing the challenge of playing the best.
You’ll hear why BYU sees this as the latest chapter in a rivalry that’s quietly become one of the most competitive in the country, and why UVU has built a mindset around playing anyone, anywhere, for a full 60 minutes.
Hope you enjoy the show!
