Best "The Simpsons" Episode (Season 1-Season 10)
2026/04/21
“The Simpsons” began as crudely drawn sketches on The Tracey Ullman Show on the then-nascent Fox Network in 1987. Two years later, it spun off into its own show – the first primetime animated series to air since “The Flintstones” in the 1960s. “The Simpsons” became an unexpected hit, and Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie became one of the most iconic families in television history, as well as a massive pop-culture property that would spawn clothing, toys, music, amusement park rides, video games, and more. The series is still going strong, with 37 seasons, more than 800 episodes, and a second major motion picture set to arrive in 2027. So join the Great Pop Culture Debate as we eat many shorts, have many cows, and attempt to name the best “Simpsons” episode from Season 1 through Season 10.
Episodes discussed: “Kamp Krusty,” “The Springfield Files,” “Mr. Plow,” “A Streetcar Named Marge,” “I Love Lisa,” “Two Dozen and One Greyhounds,” “Bart vs. Australia,” “Itchy & Scratchy Land,” “Bart Sells His Soul,” “Homer’s Enemy,” “Marge vs. The Monorail,” “A Fish Called Selma,” “Homer at the Bat,” “A Milhouse Divided,” “Cape Feare,” “Flaming Moe’s”
Join host Eric Rezsnyak and panelists Curtis Creekmore, Jim Czadzeck, and Kara Austin as they discuss and debate 16 of the most beloved episodes from the first 10 seasons of “The Simpsons.”

Best Song of 2006
2026/04/14
In 2006, the United States had a wildly unpopular Republican president, was embroiled in a pointless war in the Middle East, and was heading straight toward a major economic crisis. Sound familiar? But at least 20 years ago we had some amazing music to make those terrible times at least somewhat more enjoyable. Belting pop-rock ballads. Infectious hip-hop tracks, foundational emo-punk, and what can only be described as total bangers in de clurb. So join us as the Great Pop Culture Debate goes back 20 years and attempts to name the Best Song of 2006.
Songs discussed: “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley, “Hung Up” by Madonna, “How to Save a Life” by The Fray, “SOS” by Rihanna, “Rehab” by Amy Winehouse, “Dance, Dance” by Fall Out Boy, “Pump It” by Black Eyed Peas, “Hips Don’t Lie” by Shakira feat. Wyclef Jean, “Because of You” by Kelly Clarkson, “Put Your Records On” by Corinne Bailey Rae, “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” by Panic! At the Disco, “SexyBack” by Justin Timberlake feat. Timbaland, “You’re Beautiful” by James Blunt, “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield, “Irreplaceable” by Beyonce
Join host Eric Rezsnyak and panelists Andrea Guerrero, Curtis Creekmore, and Jake Pitochelli as they discuss and debate 16 of the most iconic songs from 20 years ago.

Best 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' Episode
2026/03/03
The TV series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” aired 144 original episodes from March 1997 to May 2003 on two now-defunct TV networks, the WB and UPN, which would ultimately merge to become the CW. That’s fitting, because “Buffy” essentially provided the blueprint for the bulk of what would air on CW – and other teen-skewing networks – for decades to come. There were teen dramas before “Buffy,” and there were supernatural dramas before “Buffy,” but there were no real teen supernatural dramas before this series. Now there are more teen supernatural dramas than there were vamps emerging from the graveyards of Sunnydale, California. While showrunner Joss Whedon’s legacy has become complicated, as a series “Buffy” still deserves its cemetery flowers. So join us as we go back to the crypt and attempt to unearth the best “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” episode of all time.
Episodes discussed: “Once More, With Feeling” (S6 E7); “Tabula Rasa” (S6 E8); “The Wish” (S3 E9); “Chosen” (S7 E22); “The Gift” (S5 E22); “Bad Girls” (S3 E14); “Band Candy” (S3 E6); “Doppelgangland” (S3 E16); “Hush” (S4 E10); “Something Blue” (S4 E9); “Becoming Pt. 1” (S2 E21); “Becoming Pt. 2” (S2 E22); “The Body” (S5 E16); “The Prom” (S3 E20); “Prophecy Girl” (S1 E12); “Graduation Day Pt. 2” (S3 E22)
Join host Eric Rezsnyak, Joelle Boedecker, Karissa Kloss, and Kate Racculia as they discuss and debate 16 of the most legendary episodes of the original “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” TV series.
For the warm-up to this episode, in which we discuss additional “Buffy” episodes that didn’t make the bracket, become a Patreon supporter of the podcast today.

Best Song of 1990
2026/02/24
Pop music in 1990 was a wild experience. New queens of pop like Paula Abdul, Taylor Dayne, and Mariah Carey stood shoulder pad to bustier with 80s ladies Madonna and Janet Jackson. Hip-hop broke into the mainstream in a big way with M.C. Hammer and Vanilla Ice. The last gasps of hair metal still clung to the airwaves like so much AquaNet residue. Club music somehow how found its way onto Top 40 radio stations. And the totally unsubtle vocal stylings of Michael Bolton, Wilson Phillips, and others gave sad white people the confidence they needed to rock high-waisted jeans and pleated khakis. What a time to be alive! So join us as the Great Pop Culture Debate goes back to the beginning of the end of the 20th Century as we name the Best Song of 1990.
Songs discussed: “Ice Ice Baby” by Vanilla Ice; “There She Goes” by The La’s; “Enjoy the Silence” by Depeche Mode; “Black Velvet” by Alannah Myles; “Groove is in the Heart” by Deee-Lite; “I’m Your Baby Tonight” by Whitney Houston; “We Didn’t Start the Fire” by Billy Joel; “Vogue” by Madonna; “U Can’t Touch This” by MC Hammer; “Poison” by Bell Biv Devoe; “Nothing Compares 2 U” by Sinead O’Connor; “Freedom ‘90” by George Michael; “Love Shack” by The B-52s; “Rhythm Nation” by Janet Jackson; “Pump Up the Jam” by Technotronic; “Hold On” by Wilson Phillips
Join host Eric Rezsnyak, Derek Mekita, Jim Czadzeck, and Jonny Minogue as they discuss and debate 16 of the most iconic songs from the year of the final decade of the 20th Century.

Best Tori Amos Song
2026/02/17
Myra Ellen Amos – better known as Tori Amos – is a singular voice in American popular music. While she has been nominated for such major accolades as Grammys and MTV Video Music Awards, she never received significant mainstream radio play in America. Still, her prodigious musical skills and captivating, poetry-rich lyrics confronting topics like religion, misogyny, and sexual assault made her an alt-pop icon who enjoyed considerable success in the 1990s and beyond. Now, more than 30 years into her musical career, and on the eve of the release of 18th studio album, In Times of Dragons, the Great Pop Culture Debate wants to look back and attempt to name the Best Tori Amos Song.
Songs discussed: “Silent All These Years,” “Taxi Ride,” “God,” “Winter,” “Spark,” “China,” “Little Earthquakes,” “Crucify,” “Cornflake Girl,” “Jackie’s Strength,” “Tear in Your Hand,” “Pretty Good Year,” “Raspberry Swirl,” “Hey, Jupiter,” “A Sorta Fairytale,” “Precious Things”
Join host Eric Rezsnyak, Patreon sponsor Bob Erlenback, and GPCD panelists Jim Czadzeck and Kate Racculia as they discuss and debate 16 of their favorite songs by Tori Amos.

Best "The Naked Gun" Movie Quote
2026/02/10
“The Naked Gun” series of films premiered in 1988, a movie continuation of the flop TV show “Police Squad.” While the spoof of police procedurals didn’t find an audience when it ran on ABC for just six episodes in 1982, the misadventures of Leslie Nielsen’s Lieutenant Frank Drebin were a smash success on the big screen, leading to a trilogy in the late 20th Century, and a reboot film in 2025. The simultaneously stupid and brilliant scripts by director David Zucker, Jerry Zucker, and Jim Abrams, Pat Proft and others were loaded with zingers, absurdist cutaways, and sight gags that, nearly 40 years later, are largely unparalleled. So join the Great Pop Culture Debate for a special Patreon-sponsored episode as we attempt to determine the Best “Naked Gun” Movie Quote.
