There Are So Many Premium Formats to Choose From In Movie Theaters? What’s Right for You?
2025/10/13
Opening Credits: This week on Live Breathe Film with Doug and Murph... Feature Presentation: From 35mm to Every Premium Format Under the Sun - We lived through the transition from tried and true 35mm projection to the now standard DCP format in the late 2000s/early 2010s. There have since been a ton of Premium Large Format options to choose from in digital projection, but to many cinephiles analog still reigns supreme. Let’s break down the various options and ultimately discuss our favorite format, IMAX 70mm, in-depth at the end. Mid-Credits: One Win After Another - Another Warner Bros. film being released to cinemas means another #1 opening at the box office. Even though One Battle After Another ended WB’s $40 million opening weekend streak at seven, its expensive budget may pay off with a big night at the Academy Awards in March, as it’s currently looking like the favorite for Best Picture. Warner Bros. Discovery are Kicking Ass and Taking Names at the Box Office in 2025
2025/10/02
Opening Credits: This week on Live Breathe Film with Doug and Murph... Feature Presentation: WBD (and Doug) Won the Summer Box Office - The key to victory this year in our box office pools has been to draft films released from the David Zaslav’s superteam of Michael De Luca, Pam Abdy, Peter Safran, and James Gunn. After A Minecraft Movie and Sinners led Murph to victory in the Winter/Spring Box Office Pool, Doug came roaring back to life this summer largely thanks to Final Destination Bloodlines, F1, Superman, and Weapons. Mid-Credits: The Conjuring Continues Warner Bros. Streak - Doug drafted The Conjuring and One Battle After Another in our Fall Box Office Pool. Will the final two biggies from WBD lead him to victory once again? The massive comeback for The Conjuring franchise to kick off the season would lead us to believe it’s possible despite an anime drafted late by Murph coming in hot. Which Film Do We Have Topping the Box Office This Fall? Avatar, Wicked, or Zootopia?
2025/09/15
Opening Credits: This week on Live Breathe Film with Doug and Murph... Feature Presentation: 2025’s Box Office Champion - It’s a near guarantee that Avatar: Fire and Ash, Wicked: For Good, or Zootopia 2 is topping the domestic box office for 2025. But which are we willing to bet on and which do we have the least faith in? To make matters even more interesting, not only will the biggest film of the year potentially be selected in our Fall Box Office Draft, but whoever ends up winning our third and final box office pool for 2025 will end up winning the grudge match for the entire year! Mid-Credits: Weapons and Warner Bros. For the Win - Warner Bros. Discovery had a hell of a run this summer with Final Destination Bloodlines, F1, Superman, and Weapons. It shouldn’t be a surprise to hear that the person who drafted all four of these films won our Summer Box Office Pool! Maybe the person who drafted A Minecraft Movie and Sinners, which kicked off WBD’s explosive run in April, should have followed suit with that proven strategy for success and taken some of these films off the board? Discussing Our Four Trips to Twin Peaks to Honor the Lives of Two Individuals We Lost This Past Year
2025/08/24
Opening Credits: It’s been a year since the loss of Live Breathe Film’s co-founder/co-host, Corey. As we reach this milestone, Doug and Murph welcome Corey’s two other best friends, Ryan and Jon, to discuss the legacy of his favorite TV show, Twin Peaks, and its visionary co-creator, David Lynch... Feature Presentation: "Diane, 12:20pm, August Twenty-Fourth. Entering Town of Twin Peaks" - Corey introduced Ryan and Jon to Mark Frost and David Lynch’s seminal television program many years ago and attempted in vain to do the same with Doug and Murph while he was still with us. However, it wasn’t until the dual loss of Corey and Lynch over the past 12 months that Doug and Murph finally took the trip to the most unique world that the medium has offered viewers over the past 35 years. So grab a slice of cherry pie and a damn fine cup of coffee as we dissect the impact Corey had on all four of our lives through the lens that only David Lynch could provide. End Credits: We’ll see you again in twenty-five years…
Struggling to Choose What To Watch in 2025 Outside of Andor and Sinners? Here are Our Picks!
2025/08/07
Opening Credits: This week on Live Breathe Film with Doug and Murph... Feature Presentation: 2025 Film and Television Mid-Year Recommendations - While we have a lot of picks that correlated with our most anticipated movies and shows for the year, we also have a number of surprises that show why it’s important to check out smaller, less hyped movies and shows like Black Bag and Paradise, which are not based around existing IP. Mid-Credits: Ring the Damn Summer Box Office Pool Bell - While our Summer Box Office Pool is technically still going on, it’s becoming a foregone conclusion who is taking home the gold as Superman achieved something for DC (and Doug) that the Man of Steel hasn’t seen since 1980. A combination of critical acclaim, strong audience reception, and big numbers at the box office! End Credits: Please make sure to Like, Follow, and Subscribe to Live Breathe Film!
Two Millennials Dissecting The New York Times’ 100 Best Films of the 21st Century Poll
2025/07/02
Opening Credits: This week on Live Breathe Film with Doug and Murph... Feature Presentation: There’s Nothing Like a List to Drum Up Some Debate - The New York Times decided to disrupt the lives of cinephiles with their 100 Best Films of the 21st Century poll this past week, and we’re here to run through the list with you, and share what we found both interesting and surprising from a mostly positive standpoint. Mid-Credits: June Largely Disappoints at the Box Office - Outside of How to Train Your Dragon having a solid run for the first adaptation of a DreamWorks Animation film and what looks like the start of a long run for F1, June was mostly full of duds. Thankfully a couple holdovers from Memorial Day Weekend provided some much needed firepower in the form of Lilo & Stitch and Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. The Last of Us Season 2 Generated Strong Reactions Among Viewers. Here’s Our Conflicted Feedback!
2025/06/16
Feature Presentation: Was It Ever Possible for The Last of Us Season Two to Live Up to the Hype? - As two individuals who played The Last of Us Part II and had been patiently waiting for season 2 of The Last of Us to air 2+ years after the superb adaptation of the original video game, we have a lot of strong opinions on how this version of the second game has been presented so far on television. Mid-Credits: Disney is Back at the Box Office - During the month of May, Disney proved once more that they never should have been doubted during their relative slump over the past couple years. Lilo & Stitch reminded the studio that they just need to focus on making live action adaptations that modern day audiences want to see and Thunderbolts* has given Marvel Studios a new baseline for what their smaller scale films can generate at the box office, which is still quite a bit of money.  End Credits: Please make sure to Like, Follow, and Subscribe to Live Breathe Film! Chicken Jockeys, Sinners, and Warner Bros. Saved the Box Office This Spring
2025/05/15
Opening Credits: This week on Live Breathe Film with Doug and Murph... Feature Presentation: A Season to Forget - The Winter/Spring box office was abysmal until Warner Bros. unleashed their one-two punch of A Minecraft Movie and Sinners upon the world. Many wondered whether movie theaters should even live to see another day thanks to the shenanigans taking place by patrons of Minecraft’s younger audience, but Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan provided reassurance of why cinema matters. End Credits: Please make sure to Like, Follow, and Subscribe to Live Breathe Film!

Opening Credits: This week on Live Breathe Film with Doug and Murph... Feature Presentation: 2025 Summer Box Office Draft - It’s time for our second one-on-one face off in our seasonal box office pools, and the potential box office heavy hitters to select from this summer include many familiar franchises. We’ve got reboots of Superman and The Fantastic Four, live action adaptations of Lilo & Stitch and How to Train Your Dragon, a return to Jurassic World, and the end of Mission: Impossible. Get your popcorn ready! End Credits: Please make sure to Like, Follow, and Subscribe to Live Breathe Film!
Comic Book Adaptations Thrived on the Small Screen in 2024 Regardless of Superhero Fatigue Elsewhere
2025/04/30
Opening Credits: This week on Live Breathe Film with Doug and Murph... Feature Presentation: The Best Television Programs of 2024 - It’s impossible to watch every great program on TV in any given year, but we did our best to catch the shows that struck a chord with critics and audiences last year. We ultimately cover 21 shows in total (six of which are comic book adaptations) between our respective top 10 ranked lists and the 10 shows that Corey enjoyed from 2024 before he passed away in August.  End Credits: Please make sure to Like, Follow, and Subscribe to Live Breathe Film!
It’s Finally Time We Talk About Dune: Part Two and 30 More of Our Favorite Films of 2024
2025/04/22
Opening Credits: This week on Live Breathe Film with Doug and Murph... Feature Presentation: The Best of 2024 in Film - It’s time for us to reveal our individual top 10 favorite films of 2024, while also sharing 20 films of 2024 that Corey saw and would vouch for. Note that there is a bit of overlap as all three of us loved Dune: Part Two, My Old Ass, and I Saw the TV Glow, while we’re confident he’d have shared our adoration for Anora as well. Music Ruled the Box Office During Fall 2024 (Unless The Joker Was Involved)
2025/04/07
Opening Credits: This week on Live Breathe Film with Doug and Murph... Feature Presentation: Comic Book Characters and IP Cash Grabs Aren’t Bulletproof - Fall 2024 was the season of the musical. Ironically the one musical that didn’t work was based on a comic book character. Joker: Folie à Deux couldn’t strike a chord, alongside other formerly formidable franchises such as Transformers, The Lord of the Rings, and Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.  Meanwhile, Wicked, Moana, Mufasa, Beetlejuice, A Complete Unknown, and Smile 2 brought the goods when it came to music and money. Mid-Credits: Survive Until Q2 2025 - The Winter/Spring box office has been bleak to say the least. Disappointment after disappointment from January through March. But this is what happens when Hollywood serves nothing but its tentpole leftovers previously scheduled for 2024, alongside a ton of counterprogramming. Can April save the season and finally kick off the year with a string of successes? Fingers crossed. End Credits: Please make sure to Like, Follow, and Subscribe to Live Breathe Film!
Is Anora Our Oscar Frontrunner? Here Are Who We Would Vote For and Why at the 97th Academy Awards
2025/02/26
Opening Credits: This week on Live Breathe Film with Doug and Murph... Feature Presentation: Spreading the Oscar Love - While we do agree on who we’d vote for in a majority of categories at this year’s Academy Awards (step right up for another funny acceptance speech this season, Kieran Culkin), it was always going to be largely due to our mutual passion for Dune: Part Two and The Wild Robot once the nominations were announced. At the same time we do have a near equal amount of disagreement on each of our imaginary ballots even if it’s mostly between winners and runner-ups. And as we each chose to abstain votes where we felt appropriate, there was only one pick where complete shenanigans were involved. It would make plenty of anonymous Academy voters proud! Yet somehow the shenanigans doesn’t involve our individual or mutual bitterness with Hans Zimmer being deemed ineligible for his brilliant Dune: Part Two score, Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross being snubbed for their top-tier musical craftsmanship in multiple categories for Challengers, or Marren Morris being ignored for her beautiful song, “Kiss the Sky”, from The Wild Robot, which both captures the emotions of the film during a pivotal scene while complementing the nominated score. Needless to say, Best Sound, Best Original Score, and Best Original Song turned into a long vent session despite playing fair with our votes. In a Year Full of Heavy Hitters, The Last of Us is Our Most Anticipated TV Show of 2025
2025/02/18
Opening Credits: This week on Live Breathe Film with Doug and Murph... Feature Presentation: What Will Doug and Murph Watch on TV in 2025? - It’s a big year for long-awaited returns and/or final seasons of some of our favorite television shows. The final episodes of Cobra Kai and the first half of Severance season 2 have not let us down, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. So much more must-see TV is still to come, including Andor, Daredevil: Born Again, Peacemaker, Stranger Things, and The White Lotus! All Aboard the Hype Train for Superman, The Fantastic Four, Avatar 3, and So Many More 2025 Movies!
2025/02/11
Opening Credits: This week on Live Breathe Film with Doug and Murph... Feature Presentation: Most Anticipated Films of 2025 - Our co-hosts have two very different lines of thinking for the types of films they are most looking forward to this year. While Doug has gone almost all in on franchise fare such as Jurassic World Rebirth and How to Train Your Dragon, Murph’s selections are more auteur driven with upcoming films by Paul Thomas Anderson and Ari Aster.
