What You Sow Is What You Reap: The Power of Accountability
2026/01/19
Introduction: In our fast-paced world, accountability often takes a backseat, especially in our spiritual lives. In a recent episode of the Soldier of Christ podcast, host John Zinsmeister emphasizes the importance of holding ourselves and others accountable in our journey as Christians. This blog post explores the key themes from the podcast, focusing on the biblical foundations of accountability and its impact on our daily lives. Understanding Accountability in the Christian Context In the podcast, John discusses a poignant scripture from Galatians 6:7, which states, "Do not be deceived. God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows, that he will also reap." This verse encapsulates the essence of accountability, urging us to recognize that our actions, words, and choices have consequences. John highlights that accountability is not merely a personal endeavor but a communal responsibility among believers. As Christians, we are called to support one another in our spiritual growth, ensuring that we reflect Christ in our behavior. The Challenge of Self-Accountability One of the central themes of the episode is the challenge of self-accountability. John candidly admits that many Christians, including himself, often fall short in this area. He emphasizes that striving for holiness is essential, even though perfection is unattainable. "We're all flawed. We're all sinners. We're all going to make mistakes," he states. This acknowledgment is crucial; it encourages listeners to embrace their imperfections while also committing to betterment. Holding Others Accountable In addition to self-accountability, John stresses the importance of holding friends and family accountable. He expresses frustration with the tendency within the Christian community to sugarcoat difficult conversations. Instead, he advocates for a more straightforward approach: challenging each other to grow and improve. "You need to cut the crap," he says, urging believers to confront behaviors that do not align with their faith. This tough love is rooted in a desire to see each other flourish in their walk with Christ. The Journey Towards Holiness John reminds listeners that the path to holiness is not easy. He references Jesus’ call to "take up your cross," symbolizing the sacrifices and challenges that come with discipleship. The journey requires effort and commitment, and accountability plays a crucial role in this process. By acknowledging our shortcomings and seeking support from fellow believers, we can navigate our spiritual paths more effectively. Conclusion: Key Takeaways The podcast episode serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of accountability in our Christian lives. Here are the key takeaways: 1. **Our Actions Have Consequences**: Galatians 6:7 reminds us that what we sow, we will reap. 2. **Self-Accountability is Vital**: Embrace imperfections but strive for holiness. 3. **Hold Each Other Accountable**: Engage in honest conversations with fellow believers about their faith journey. 4. **The Journey is Challenging**: Discipleship requires commitment and sacrifice. Incorporating these principles into our daily lives can lead to meaningful growth and a deeper connection with God. Let us challenge ourselves and each other to walk the path of accountability as we strive to reflect Christ in all that we do.

The Simple Life
2026/01/15
Introduction: In a world that often equates success with material possessions, it’s easy to get caught up in the pursuit of more. In this episode of the Soldiers of Christ Podcast, John Zinsmeister explores the profound concept of living a simple life, urging listeners to recognize the temporary satisfaction that material things can offer and to seek fulfillment deeper within. Main Content: 1. Understanding the Materialistic Trap John begins by highlighting the pervasive materialism in today’s society. He notes how many individuals are engrossed in accumulating wealth and possessions, believing that these will bring lasting happiness. He uses the example of money, stating that while it is necessary for survival, an obsession with it can lead to dissatisfaction. John reminds us, "possessions and material things can never satisfy you; they offer only temporary satisfaction." 2. The Analogy of Backpack Living Drawing inspiration from David Jeremiah’s devotional, John introduces the concept of "backpack living"—a metaphor for simplifying our lives. Just as seasoned travelers learn to pack light, John encourages listeners to consider downsizing their material possessions. He emphasizes that the more we acquire, the more we must maintain, leading to increased pressure and stress. He poignantly states, "Pretty soon our possessions possess us." 3. The Wisdom of Solomon John references the Book of Ecclesiastes, sharing insights from King Solomon, who discovered that true joy is found in simple, everyday experiences rather than in extravagant possessions. He reads Ecclesiastes 5:10, emphasizing that those who love silver will never be satisfied. Solomon’s journey reminds us that fulfillment comes from appreciating life’s simple pleasures, not from accumulating wealth. 4. Living with Less for Greater Impact The conversation shifts to the benefits of living with less. John advocates for decluttering both physically and emotionally, suggesting that the money saved can be invested in meaningful causes. He challenges listeners to reflect on their spending habits and consider how they can redirect funds towards helping others and supporting God’s kingdom. He shares a striking example of the absurdity of valuing material possessions over human life, saying, "Some people value material objects more than they value a human life." 5. Finding True Satisfaction in God Throughout the podcast, John emphasizes that true satisfaction comes from a relationship with God, not from material wealth. He encourages listeners to shift their focus from worldly possessions to spiritual growth and community support. He reassures us that while it’s okay to enjoy material things, they should never become our primary source of happiness. Conclusion: In conclusion, John Zinsmeister’s episode on living a simple life serves as a powerful reminder to prioritize what truly matters. By recognizing the temporary nature of material possessions and embracing a simpler lifestyle, we can cultivate deeper connections with ourselves, others, and God. Key takeaways include the importance of decluttering, investing in meaningful causes, and understanding that our true worth is not tied to our possessions.
He Shall Sustain You!
2026/01/14
Introduction: Welcome to another uplifting episode of the Soldier of Christ podcast! Today, we dive deep into the powerful concept of being sustained by God, inspired by David Jeremiah's devotional series. If you're seeking encouragement and strength, you're in the right place. Main Content: Understanding the Concept of Sustenance In our daily lives, we often encounter challenges that test our strength and resilience. The word "sustain" comes up frequently in scripture, yet many of us might not fully grasp its meaning. To sustain means to support, to strengthen, and to bear up under the weight of life's burdens. When we hear that God wants to sustain us, it’s a reminder that we are not meant to face our trials alone. John Zinsmeister reflects on his past misunderstandings of the term, realizing that true sustain comes from recognizing our need for divine support. The Invitation to Allow God In John emphasizes that God does not force Himself upon us. Instead, He invites us to let Him sustain us. This invitation is crucial; we must choose to accept it. John shares a heartfelt moment from his life where he struggled under the weight of his burdens. He encourages listeners to invite God into their hardships, reminding them that it’s essential to allow God to support us during tough times, just as we should also invite Him into our joyful moments. Scriptural Foundations of Sustain The podcast references Psalm 55:22, which states, "Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you." This verse is a powerful reminder of God’s promise to bear our burdens. John elaborates on how God sustained the Israelites during their 40 years in the wilderness, highlighting that they lacked nothing. This historical example reassures us that God is always present, ready to support us through our struggles. Real-Life Applications John shares his personal experiences of trying to carry burdens alone and the emotional toll it took on him. He notes that attempting to manage our struggles without God can lead us down a dark path, filled with pain and isolation. However, by allowing God to sustain us, we can experience healing and growth. He encourages listeners to trust in God’s timing, reminding us that healing is a process that takes time and faith. Conclusion: Key Takeaways In this episode, we learned the importance of understanding what it means to be sustained by God. We are reminded that God is always willing to support us, but we must invite Him into our lives. Through scripture and personal stories, John inspires us to cast our burdens on the Lord, trust in His promises, and embrace the strength He provides. Remember, it’s okay to seek help, to lean on God, and to allow Him to carry you through your hardest moments.
Embracing Generosity: The True Meaning of Giving in a Faithful Life
2026/01/13
Introduction: In the latest episode of the Soldier of Christ podcast, host John Zinsmeister dives deep into the profound concept of giving, drawing insights from the daily devotional series, Walking with God by David Jeremiah. This episode not only highlights the importance of generosity but also emphasizes how true giving should be rooted in our relationship with God. Main Content: 1. **The Joy of Giving** John kicks off the episode with a light-hearted conversation about Taco Tuesday, encouraging listeners to enjoy good, authentic tacos instead of fast food. This sets a friendly tone, inviting both new and regular listeners to engage with the podcast. He expresses gratitude for the support received from the audience, highlighting the growth of the podcast and the community it fosters. 2. **Daily Devotional Insights** As part of the ongoing series, John introduces the day's devotional titled "An Odd Offering." He reflects on past discussions about giving and reinforces the idea that our financial contributions should focus on building God’s kingdom rather than merely supporting a church or organization. John stresses that when we give, we are not just donating to an entity but are making a contribution to something far greater—the work of God in the world. 3. **Understanding True Stewardship** Drawing from Deuteronomy 16:17, John shares the scripture: "Every man shall give as he is able according to the blessing of the Lord your God, which he has given you." This verse serves as a reminder that our financial stewardship should be linked to the blessings we receive from God. He shares an intriguing story about an anonymous attendee at an Atlanta church who donated a winning lottery ticket worth $80,000, prompting listeners to consider the essence of giving. 4. **The Heart of Generosity** John elaborates on the idea that true generosity stems from recognizing Jesus as the Lord of our finances. He points out that many Christians may find themselves overspending on personal desires rather than prioritizing contributions to God’s work. He emphasizes that giving should be seen as an act of worship, where every individual, regardless of wealth, is valued equally in their contributions. 5. **Shifting Our Mindset** The conversation shifts to how we often associate our earnings with personal gain. John recalls his own experiences of saving for video games as a teenager, illustrating how easily we can focus on our desires instead of considering how those resources can benefit others and further God’s mission. He urges listeners to cultivate a mindset that balances personal enjoyment with the responsibility of supporting those in need and the greater good of the community. Conclusion: In this episode, John Zinsmeister beautifully encapsulates the essence of giving from a faith perspective. He encourages listeners to reflect on their financial stewardship, reminding them that giving should not just be an obligation but a heartfelt act of worship. By inviting Jesus into every aspect of our lives, including our finances, we can transform our approach to generosity and truly contribute to building God’s kingdom. Key Takeaways: - Generosity is an expression of our faith and relationship with God. - Our financial contributions should prioritize the work of God rather than just supporting organizations. - True stewardship comes from recognizing God’s blessings in our lives. - Shifting our focus from personal gain to community support is essential for spiritual growth.
Letting Go
2026/01/12
Introduction: In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to cling to material possessions and unhealthy relationships, often at the cost of our mental and spiritual well-being. In this episode of the Soldier of Christ Podcast, host John Zinsmeister dives into a thought-provoking devotional titled "Caught Like a Monkey," encouraging listeners to reflect on what they keep and what they truly need to let go. Main Content: Understanding the Concept of Clinging John introduces the idea behind the title, "Caught Like a Monkey," which evokes a childlike curiosity and humor. The metaphor relates to how monkeys are often caught in traps due to their inability to let go of something they desire, which in turn teaches us about our own tendencies to cling to things that no longer serve us. The Devotional Focus: What We Keep vs. What We Give In this devotional, John shifts the focus from giving—discussed in a previous episode—to what we hold onto. He emphasizes that while it’s important to be generous, it’s equally critical to assess what we are keeping in our lives, be it material possessions or toxic relationships. John suggests that there are aspects of our lives that God wants us to release, which can lead to spiritual growth and healing. Real-Life Examples and Insights Throughout the episode, John shares personal insights and examples that resonate with listeners. He encourages them to reflect on their own lives, asking poignant questions about what they might be holding onto that is hindering their growth. He mentions that journaling can be a helpful practice for listeners to articulate their thoughts and feelings about their attachments. A Challenge for Listeners To make the devotional more interactive, John challenges his audience to write down their thoughts as they listen. He believes that devotionals should not just be about absorbing information but also about personal reflection and insight. By encouraging listeners to maintain a journal, he fosters a deeper connection to their faith journey. Conclusion: Key Takeaways As John wraps up the episode, he reinforces the idea that letting go can be liberating. By identifying and releasing what no longer serves us, we create space for growth and new opportunities. The discussion of "Caught Like a Monkey" serves as a reminder that sometimes it’s our attachments that keep us trapped. The key takeaway is to evaluate what we are holding onto and consider what God might be asking us to release.
The Transformative Power of Giving
2026/01/11
Introduction: In an inspiring episode of the Soldier of Christ Podcast, host John Zinsmeister delves into the profound impact of giving on our spiritual lives. Drawing upon personal anecdotes and biblical teachings, he emphasizes that true fulfillment often comes from selflessly serving others. Main Content: 1. The Importance of Giving in Faith John opens the discussion by asserting that giving is a fundamental aspect of Christian faith. He reflects on how, as children, the desire to receive often overshadows the joy of giving. However, as he matured, he found greater satisfaction in contributing to the well-being of others. He states, "I’ve always been kind of a giver," and stresses the importance of balancing both giving and receiving in one’s life. 2. Biblical Foundations: Paul's Teaching on Generosity Zinsmeister references Philippians 4:15, where the Apostle Paul acknowledges the support he received from the Philippians during his ministry. He draws parallels between this biblical example and modern-day acts of generosity, highlighting how giving can foster a sense of community and shared purpose. He shares the story of Hudson Taylor, a pioneer missionary in China, who relied solely on God’s provision for his needs, demonstrating that faith and giving are intertwined. 3. Personal Experiences of Giving John recounts a recent experience while working as a DoorDash driver, where he encountered a passionate young man seeking support for his mission trip. Inspired by the young man's dedication, John chose to give, stating, "I gave him money for his mission trip. I had very little money, but I had whatever I had to give to him." This act of generosity not only provided financial support but also sparked a meaningful conversation about faith, unity, and the shared mission of spreading the Gospel. 4. The Spiritual Benefits of Giving The host emphasizes that giving is not merely about financial contributions; it’s about fulfilling God’s call to serve others. He encourages listeners to view giving as an opportunity rather than a burden, stating, "God gives us opportunities to give. When we give, we surrender ourselves for something bigger than us." This perspective shifts the focus from personal gain to the greater good, illustrating how acts of kindness can be a powerful expression of faith. 5. Overcoming Fear and Embracing Generosity In closing, John encourages his audience to overcome the fear of giving. He reflects on how fear can often prevent individuals from seizing opportunities to help others. He advises, "Don’t be afraid to seek that opportunity. God gives us opportunities, and we should be faithful in those moments." By embracing generosity, we align ourselves with the teachings of Christ and contribute to the well-being of our communities. Conclusion: The episode encapsulates the essence of Christianity as a faith built on love, service, and generosity. Key takeaways include the importance of balancing giving and receiving, the biblical foundations of generosity, and the transformative power of acts of kindness. As we navigate our lives, let us remember that it truly is better to give than to receive, and that each opportunity to give is a chance to express our faith and love for others.
Embracing Consistency: The Key to Strengthening Your Faith
2026/01/10

In the latest episode of the Soldier of Christ Podcast, host John Zinsmeister delves into the profound significance of maintaining a steady practice of faith, offering valuable insights and relatable anecdotes that resonate with many. Main Content: Understanding Consistency in Faith Consistency in faith is not merely about routine; it's about the commitment to deepen our relationship with God daily. As John emphasizes, without consistency, our faith can easily waver. He asserts, "There’s no such thing as a strong, firm faith without consistency." This statement serves as a powerful reminder that our spiritual journey requires daily attention and effort. Daily Devotional Insights In today's episode, John references the 365 Daily Devotional by David Jeremiah, specifically focusing on Psalm 119:33, which states, "Teach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes, and I shall keep it to the end." This verse encapsulates the essence of learning and adhering to God's laws and commands throughout our lives. John highlights a personal story from Reese Keffman, president of Child Evangelism Fellowship, who shares how a simple bedtime ritual of brushing his teeth followed by reading the Bible has shaped his life. This example serves to illustrate that cultivating habits of faith can lead to profound spiritual awakening. The Importance of Steady Bible Study John passionately discusses the importance of consistent Bible study, noting that "a lack of Bible study leads to truth decay." He encourages listeners to approach their reading not as a chore but as an opportunity for growth and understanding. He states, "It’s better to study a little in God’s Word every day than to try to absorb lots of the Bible in random study." This approach can help alleviate the pressure many feel when confronted with the vastness of scripture, allowing for a deeper, more meaningful engagement with God's word. Navigating Life's Challenges with Faith John also addresses how consistency in our spiritual practices can prepare us for life's inevitable trials. He reflects on how during seasons of desolation, maintaining our rituals can be challenging but essential. He offers a reassuring perspective, saying, "Be grateful for the opportunity to be in a season of desolation because that’s when you’re preparing for the next big thing in your life." This thought encourages listeners to view their spiritual practices as tools for resilience, helping them navigate both good and bad times. Conclusion: Key Takeaways In summary, the podcast episode beautifully encapsulates the essence of faith as a journey that requires intentionality and consistency. By embracing daily rituals, engaging with scripture, and remaining steadfast in our practices, we can cultivate a stronger, more resilient faith that withstands the challenges of life.

Whether you are a barista or a CEO, the call to serve Christ remains the same. He challenges the misconception that ministry only happens within church walls, reminding listeners that they can exemplify Christ's love through their actions in any career. 5. **Practical Applications in Everyday Life** To illustrate his point, John shares his personal experiences, including his first job in the restaurant industry. He emphasizes the lessons learned from jobs he disliked, highlighting how such experiences build character and integrity. He encourages listeners to view their work as an opportunity to demonstrate Christ's love, regardless of the setting. 6. **Authenticity in Faith** John discusses the importance of authenticity in one's relationship with Christ. He notes that a genuine relationship is more impactful than superficial beliefs. He encourages listeners to let their actions speak for their faith, stating, "No one cares about how much you know until you show how much you care." This profound truth underscores the essence of evangelism as being about building authentic relationships rather than mere conversions. Conclusion: As we step into 2026, it's crucial to remember that our daily actions, no matter how small, contribute to the larger mission of spreading Christ’s message. John's reflections serve as a powerful reminder that we are all called to serve, regardless of our job title or setting. Trust God Bro!
2024/04/02
Trusting God is not always easy. In fact its one of the hardest things we do as Christians especially when times get tough! In this episode we look at the story of the man with a withered hand in the Gospel of Mark 3:1-6. This man had a hand that was completely disfigured and was embarrassed and ashamed of it. Jesus calls this man out in the synagogue and calls him to come forward. This man could of ran away in shame and embarrassment because of his hand but instead he trust Jesus and Jesus heals his hand. It's not easy to trust God but he always has our best interest. God will for us does require suffering not to punish us or to make us feel unloved rather he loves us so much that he wants us to grow closer to him by trusting him through our trials we face and by trusting him we become stronger as a person and in our faith in him.
Having Faith in The Storms of Life
2024/03/26
Let's be honest it is hard to stay strong in our faith when life storms comes at us. In this episode I talk about the story of The Calming of a Storm at Sea in the Gospel of Mark 4:35-41. Here the disciples lack faith because of the storm and Jesus calls them out for not having faith. When we go through hard times in our life, we can sometimes be like the disciples in the boat, but Jesus reminds us to fear not for I am with you. We must have faith in Christ at all times through the hard times but also the good times. The only way we can stay strong and even become stronger in our faith in Jesus if we continue to grow in our relationship with him a relationship, he is desperately wanted to have with us, and we should want the same no matter how hard life gets or how great life is we should always be seeking a relationship with Jesus.
