2026/08/18
Send us Fan Mail In the final part of this three-part conversation, Tiffany continues her heartfelt discussion with Leo and Oliver. The conversation begins by going deeper into Leo and Oliver's personal journeys and the experiences that have shaped who they are today. They reflect on LGBTQ+ education and compare some of their experiences growing up in the United States and the United Kingdom with what they have encountered while living in Japan. As the conversation unfolds, Leo and Oliver explore some of the misconceptions surrounding trans men and transmasculine identities, sharing how navigating these assumptions has contributed to their own understanding and personal growth. But beyond the challenges, Tiffany asks them to reflect on something more personal: What have they gained and learned from being transgender? Their answers bring the three-part conversation full circle as they share what their journeys have taught them about identity, resilience, self-understanding, and ultimately, accepting who they truly are. Whether you're LGBTQ+, an ally, or simply someone learning about experiences different from your own, this final conversation is an invitation to look beyond labels, understand one another more deeply, and reflect on what it means to live authentically as yourself. EP 316: Why Japan Is Safe For LGBTQ+ Community? (PART 2)
2026/08/11
Send us Fan Mail Join us for Part 2 of our three-part conversation with Leo and Oliver! Tiffany continues her conversation with Leo McDonagh and Oliver, moving beyond their personal introductions in Part 1 to explore their experiences of being transgender and building a life in Japan. The conversation begins with Leo and Oliver sharing their perspectives on the terms trans man and transmasculine, what those identities mean to them, and their individual experiences with transition. From there, the conversation turns to some of the realities of navigating life in Japan as transgender people. Leo and Oliver share their experiences accessing hormone therapy and medical care, including aspects of Japan's healthcare system that they appreciate, while also discussing the financial and practical challenges surrounding legal gender recognition and identification documents. They also open up about another deeply personal part of building a life together: finding a home as a couple. Through their experiences with housing, landlords, real estate agents, and partnership documentation, they offer a glimpse into some of the obstacles LGBTQ+ couples can encounter in everyday life. But their experience of Japan isn't defined only by challenges. Leo and Oliver also reflect on what they appreciate about living here, including a sense of physical safety and the freedom they have found to express themselves. Through both the difficulties and the positives, this episode invites us to consider an important question: What does it really mean for a place to feel safe, welcoming, and livable for LGBTQ+ people?
