Episode 154 | Kaiden Argueta (St. Andrew's Episcopal) | 9.2.2026
2026/09/03
Episode 154 | Kaiden Argueta – St. Andrew’s Episcopal School PSB High Academic Showcase Originally Recorded: August 16, 2026 For Episode 154, we wrap up this run of coverage from the Pro Skills Basketball High Academic Showcase with a player we've watched, and called, plenty of times before. Kaiden Argueta, the newest guard at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, joins Kurt & Chelsie just moments after coming off the floor at the showcase... and this time, he brings his father along for the conversation. For Kurt, it's a reunion of sorts. After calling Kaiden's games during his time at St. John’s College High School and in the WCAC, Kurt will now get a chance to follow the next chapter of his career as Kaiden makes the move to St. Andrew’s. And it's a big chapter. Kaiden is heading into that all-important jump from sophomore to junior year... a summer when development, exposure and preparation begin to take on an entirely different meaning for a player with aspirations of competing at the next level. We talk about his summer on the basketball circuit, his performance at the PSB High Academic Showcase, what he's been working on and, most importantly, the expectations Kaiden has for himself heading into the upcoming season. The move from St. John's to St. Andrew's also means a different role and a new opportunity. Kaiden discusses what went into the transition, what he's looking forward to with his new program and how he plans to make his mark as he settles into his junior season. Having his father join us gives us another perspective on the journey — the work that happens away from the spotlight, the decisions that come with navigating high school basketball and what the family hopes to see from Kaiden as this next phase begins. But we couldn't let him leave without getting to the really important basketball question... Kaiden has a younger brother, Carter, who's entering his freshman year. So naturally, we had to ask: 🏀 Kaiden vs. Carter. One-on-one. Who wins? Big brother certainly has an answer... but we'll let Kaiden tell you himself. From St. John's and the WCAC to St. Andrew's and a new opportunity, Episode 154 catches up with a talented young guard at an important moment in his high school career. 🏀 A new school. A new role. A pivotal junior season. And a little brother waiting for his shot at the champ. 🎙️ Episode 154 is available now wherever you listen to podcasts. Episode 153 | Coach TJ Jordan (McDaniel College) | 9.2.2026
2026/09/03
Episode 153 | Coach TJ Jordan – McDaniel College Men’s Basketball PSB High Academic Showcase Originally Recorded: August 16, 2026 For Episode 153, we continue our coverage from the Pro Skills Basketball High Academic Showcase with a coach who is beginning an exciting new chapter in his career. Fresh off of success at Notre Dame of Maryland University, Coach TJ Jordan has now turned his attention to building something special at McDaniel College. And when we say new chapter, we mean it. Coach Jordan was just a couple of weeks into the job when he made his way to Stevenson University and sat down with Kurt & Chelsie. One thing immediately stood out to us: you don't see a lot of college head coaches personally attending showcases. There are only so many hours in a day, especially when you're taking over a new program. But for Coach Jordan, the PSB High Academic Showcase was important enough to be there himself. That tells you something about the approach he's bringing to McDaniel. Coach Jordan talks about making the move from Notre Dame of Maryland, what he learned from the success he helped create there and how those experiences are shaping his vision for McDaniel men's basketball. We get into the early days of taking over a college program... evaluating what you already have, establishing a culture and, of course, recruiting the players who fit what you're trying to build. And that's exactly why an event like the High Academic Showcase matters. Coach Jordan discusses what catches his eye when he's evaluating prospective student-athletes and why finding the right fit, both on the basketball court, and in the classroom — is such an important part of building a successful college program. It's early. The vision is taking shape. And Coach TJ Jordan is already putting in the work. From success at Notre Dame of Maryland to a brand-new opportunity at McDaniel, we catch Coach Jordan right at the beginning of what he hopes will become another successful chapter. 🏀 A new job. A new program. A new challenge. And no time wasted getting out on the recruiting trail. 🎙️ Episode 153 is available now wherever you listen to podcasts. Episode 152 | Coach Matt Miller (Lebanon Valley College) | 9.2.2026
2026/09/03
Episode 152 | Coach Matt Miller – Lebanon Valley College Basketball PSB High Academic Showcase Originally Recorded: August 16, 2026 For Episode 152, our coverage from the Pro Skills Basketball High Academic Showcase continues with a guest who may be new to the DMV Hoops Podcast microphone — but is definitely not a new face to Kurt. Coach Matt Miller of Lebanon Valley College joins Kurt & Chelsie for a conversation that starts with nearly 20 years of shared basketball history. Long before the podcast, the showcases and college recruiting conversations, Matt and Kurt were coaching in the same program at Winston Churchill High School. Matt worked on the boys basketball side, while Kurt coached on the girls side. So before we get into where Coach Miller is today, we spend a little time reminiscing about those Churchill days and just how much has changed in DMV basketball since then. Then we turn our attention to Lebanon Valley College and what Coach Miller is building today.  We ask... "Why?"  Why is HE here today?  His answer... the most candid and real answer we got from a coach all day. Matt discusses how his position at LVC is beginning to take shape, what he's learning about the program and the opportunity ahead as he works to help identify, recruit and develop the players who can contribute to the next chapter of Lebanon Valley basketball. And there may be no better place to have that conversation than the PSB High Academic Showcase, where talented student-athletes are competing in front of college coaches looking for exactly the kind of players who can fit their programs both academically and athletically. This episode is a little different for us. It's college basketball, recruiting and coaching... but it's also two coaches getting a chance to reconnect nearly two decades after sharing the sidelines at Churchill. 🏀 Old coaching stories. A basketball journey from player to coach. And a new chapter taking shape at Lebanon Valley College. 🎙️ Episode 152 is available now wherever you listen to podcasts. 2026/09/03
Episode 151 | Coach Yashar Joseph – Pro Skills Basketball & St. John’s College High School PSB High Academic Showcase Originally Recorded: August 16, 2026 For Episode 151, we continue our coverage from the Pro Skills Basketball High Academic Showcase at Stevenson University with another familiar face from the DMV basketball community. Coach Yashar Joseph of Pro Skills Basketball and the St. John’s College High School Boys Basketball staff joins Kurt & Chelsie to talk hoops, recruiting, player development and a little St. John’s history. At St. John’s, Coach Joseph has carved out an important role within the program, particularly in the recruiting and scouting lanes. He gives us a look behind the curtain at what goes into identifying talent, evaluating players and helping build a roster capable of competing at the highest levels of the WCAC and DMV basketball. We also take a trip back to 2022 and that magical St. John’s season under Coach Pat Behan. Coach Joseph reflects on what made that group special, the chemistry surrounding the program and what it was like being part of a season that remains an unforgettable chapter in Cadets basketball history. From there, the conversation turns to Pro Skills Basketball and the philosophy behind the organization.  And with the PSB High Academic Showcase happening around us, we talk about why events like this matter... giving talented student-athletes an opportunity to perform in front of college coaches while putting academics and basketball on the same stage. From recruiting and scouting at St. John’s to memories of a magical Cadets season and the player-development philosophy driving PSB, Coach Joseph gives us a unique perspective from someone working in multiple lanes of DMV basketball. 🏀 Recruiting. Scouting. Development. And a look inside two programs helping shape DMV hoops. 🎙️ Episode 151 is available now wherever you listen to podcasts. Episode 150 | Coach James Maerder - Pro Skills Basketball | Showcase Director PSB High Academic Showcase Originally Recorded: August 16, 2026 For Episode 150, it only makes sense that we sit down with the man who helped make today's coverage possible! Coach James Maerder, Director of the Pro Skills Basketball High Academic Showcase, joins Kurt & Chelsie from Stevenson University. Coach Maerder was gracious enough to invite the DMV Hoops Podcast out to cover the showcase, and we're thrilled to have a familiar face join us on the mic. Our connection with Coach Maerder goes back years to his time at St. John's College High School, so there's plenty to catch up on. We revisit some DMV basketball memories, including the unforgettable 2023 WCAC season under the  Coach Pat Behan... a special team, a special season and a chapter of St. John's basketball that left a lasting impact on everyone who experienced it. We also spend some time talking about reigning MoCo Player of the Year Gabe Colston and the expectations surrounding him as he prepares for another season. After an outstanding year, what's next and how does Coach Myers see his game and leadership continuing to develop?
